Owner description: This charming neighborhood is Amsterdam's Greenwich Village, with its narrow alleys, leafy canals lined with 17th-century houses, quirky specialty shops, cafes and designer boutiques.

What a charming and quaint place to visit from hassle of Amsterdam. We took canal cruise hop on hop off and took time to explore Jordan. Lots of cafes, interesting shops, architecture.Found it a very romantic place to be and finished our exploring at one of the restaurants overlooking canal..

Amsterdam is above all a city for walking. With its network of canals and beautiful quiet side streets, the Jordaan area is a wonderful place to spend several hours just taking in the architecture and the shops and when you get tired..canal side cafés. Herengracht,Prinsengracht with their small bridges and beautiful homes provide a nice respite from the lines and crowds of the rijks and Van Gogh museums and Dam Square. Enjoy the quiet and beauty of this area but make sure to stay off the bike paths!! U less you are prepared for a stern warning from a speeding cyclist.

It is basically a residential area with lots of restaurants bars and independent small shops. It is pretty and interesting and a nice change from the very touristy areas of Amsterdam. Worth spending some time for a relaxing walk.

We bought the Jordaan walking tour brochure from the tourist office and did a self-guided stroll around the neighbourhood. It is a very pretty area with lovely old buildings, nice little cafes/restaurants and interesting shops. A nice thing to do on a sunny day when you are tired of museums and churches.
