Owner description: This charming café-restaurant housed in a historic building that was used for storing horse carriages during the 17th and 18th centuries, and later as a cigar factory in the early 1900s.In the 15th century it was a monastery. That's why the alley is called " Het Gebed zonder End" which means "a prayer without an end" Kapitein Zeppos is a moment of quietness in the busy center of Amsterdam. Its mediterranean atmosphere makes you think you're on a holiday in France, Spain or Italy. La cuisine is also influenced by the countries around the Mediterranean Sea. We're open for lunch and dinner. you can also enjoy drink in the alley or at the bar!

Read about this little funky place in a guidebook with the promise of good food, wine and a relaxed atmosphere - and that's exactly what we got. This French-Med style restaurant is in a quiet location off the tourist track creating a quiet and intimate atmosphere (in a kitschy sort of way). While the service was not the fastest and the menu relatively limited, the food was cooked and presented to a high standard. The waiters were friendly and helpful, and we never once felt like we were being ushered out after finishing our meal.

I am returning to Amsterdam in October and I will definitely be visiting here again.

I've been here a couple of years ago and was good. Now I went and service was terrible, we had to wait for the food forever, and it was average quality. Ambiance is fine. Would not come back.

Recommended by our guide book, we headed off for a funky evening of great food and wine. In that, we were not disappointed.

KZ is hidden down a little alleyway decorated with fairy lights and is as kitsch as an all year Christmas shop. Tables have tied tops and the kitchen is watched over by the Swedish Chef from The Muppet Show.

Food was basic but really tasty. The wine was lovely and we had great fun.

But.... When you're so busy, why only have two people doing everything front of house? Serving, drinks, clearing... Ok it was Monday and warm but it took the shine off. And we would have spent more money if we'd had better service.

We'd go back and fingers crossed, they'll do better.

The food is excellent though wine is a bit expensive. The place is quirky - all the more attractive for that.

Pros:
- a bit hidden away off the main street, so relatively quiet without a lot of tourists
- simple sandwiches and salads as lunch options
- good cappucino
- a few cute little tables outside in the summertime

Cons:
- nothing special in terms of menu selection
- kitsch interiors, so nothing fancy or in any way refined. That said, there's a certain coziness about the place if you're just looking for a cup of coffee, a beer or a sandwich)
