Visited with business partners from all Europe. The steak was medium rare instead of medium as I asked and a bit tough. The pumpkin soup was OK but too spicy for the ladies. (And it was not told before the soup was served)

OK, it might be terrific for other occasions too, but late lunch is what we had. Wonderful ambiance, attentive staff, reasonable beers and snacks. We liked it inside, since it's such a special building. The "change of candles" procedure is rather impressive - a huge wheel is lowered on a chain for this. At 4pm on Sunday a very good duo of jazz musicians appeared (double bass and guitar), so we stayed a bit longer than was originally intended.
Foodwise - salmon salad not bad, just way too much salad :-) Hamburger is a better bet IMHO (medium rare ended up fairly medium, but still tasty). We liked a plate of cold/warm snacks even more than the main dishes...

We met outside De Waag at the start of our Exposure Photo Tours, with Genevieve Pring, our tourguide. We ended up in the area a couple of days later and decided to check out the lunch options, since we had seen earlier that they had a couple of vegetarian options in their menu.

Once inside the server seemed a bit too busy to get to our table, so I had to get his attention with a polite hello gesture. But after a few minutes he did come by with a couple of menus and was very courteous. I asked for the grilled panini without the ham since we are vegetarians, he was fine with it and when the order came he specifically mentioned that they skipped the ham and had added some zucchini instead for my enjoyment. The food was good and a pretty decent value considering the location. Then as we were poring over our I Amsterdam pass map for our next adventure my wife noticed that the De Waag offers 25% off breakfast and lunch. So we proceeded to show the pass to our server and he applied the 25% discount which made it all the better. We were warned about poor service in Europe compared to the States. It is true that service is a bit slower and not as chirpy as in the US, but once you accept that and relax you will find the folks there are very pleasant and helpful. At least that was our experience.

Nice place to have a quiet lunch. We sat inside because the outside cafe-style area was full, hot and folks were smoking away like crazy. Inside was smoke-free and much quieter.

Restaurant located in the nice historical building on Nieuwmarkt. I like this place because they have Jopen Bokbier and bitterballen. So, overall it is just another place to drink a glass of beer, but it is ok.
