DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Amsterdam Centraal Station

We stayed at the DoubleTree Hilton early in January 2012. You cannot miss the hotel - you turn left after leaving the Central Station and it is the first big modern block you come to. Not that attractive from the outside and seemingly no real Dutch look to it at all.
The Hotel reception is spacious and very corporate. The bar is a good size and very modern in its style.
Breakfast is served in the large cafe on the ground floor and we found this to be excellent...a huge choice and excellently managed when the cafe is busy.
The 4 lifts serve all the floors but to access bedrooms you have to use your door key.
We did find that on busy days the 4 lifts were not enough. One was always out of service.
The room we had was a good size...excellent bathroom and shower. Each room has an iMac computer that has great sound quality and picture for TV too.

One thing I would check if I was going to the hotel again is that the room has a view...ours looked out onto a wall...not really aproblem as in a city like Amsterdam you dont spens a lot of time in the room! However a great view would have been good.

The staff at the hotel were great, friendly and efficient at all times, they made you feel welcome.

The hotel has an amzing Sky Bar. Panoramic views over the town...almost worth the inflated prices but the bar does have a great atmosphere in the venings and drinks come with small snacks...it is still expensive but worth a visit. In the summer there is a huge patio on the oof too.

I would recommend this hotel for a good visit to Amsterdam.

The city is not cheap. We come from London and prices are similar. We did a boat trip with wine and cheese which was excellent but overpriced at 30 euros each.

Wrap up warm in the winter the Dutch wind is COLD.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a view,

I spent a 5-day winter holiday (January) in this wonderful hotel. Here is what I liked and disliked about it:

Liked:
- perfect location - it's very close to the central station (5 min. walk) and almost everything is within a walking distance from it: tram and underground stations; important sights, shopping centers, restaurants;
- delicious and bountiful breakfast - a great choice of food from a more traditional breakfast of eggs and ham, to a continental breakfast with fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc. (loved the fish!!!);
- friendly and helpful staff - everyone, always greets you with a smile and is ready to help;
- FREE internet access and an awesome iMac TV/PC;
- wonderful view of the city from the Skylounge on the 11th floor.

Disliked:
- the room and especially the bed was a bit small and narrow for a double one.

As you can see, the pros outweigh the cons, so you should definitely try this hotel when you're next in the city! For a sightseeing trip or for a business trip, it's the ideal place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a city view! Rooms overlooking the main station are said to be noisy, plus the v...

I stayed at this Hotel for New Years Eve with my Boyfriend and two Friends. The Hotel is in a brilliant location. Central Station is around 5 minutes walk away, Dam Square is about a 10/15 minute walk, Pubs, Shops and museums are all within walking Distance. There are trams that run all the time, however, we never had to use one as everywhere we wanted to go was within walking distance. The rooms in the Hotel are very nice, the room was cleaned daily and the bed linen/towels were also changed daily, we were on the 4th floor and it was very quiet in the room, we couldn't hear a thing from outside or in the corridor. The Hotel staff were polite and helpful, they give you a warm Cookie on arrival which was really yummy :) The Sky Lounge at the Hotel is lovely with amazing views of the City and the Hotel is very clean. The only negative comment I can make is that the breakfast (which did not look nice at all) was 49 euros for two people for ONE day! Although we knew Amsterdam was very pricey for food and drink we thought 24.50 euro for a continental breakfast was a bit steep so we went out everyday for breakfast instead. The atmosphere is great in Amsterdam and there is loads to see and do there, I would definitely recommend the Mint/Double Tree Hotel as a great stay with easy access to the city and central station.

but this wasn't a Windmill in Old Amsterdam... this was a 4* hotel!!

And actually it was more than one. I suffer from insomnia so came downstairs to read in the lobby bar and it would seem that the mice like to come out and play (they came out from behind the bookcase) at about 5 o'clock. I did report it but the staff didn't seem too bothered and just said they would let maintenance know.

Anyway, that aside it was a rather nice hotel - once we got there. We were looking for 'Mint Hotel' and there was no indication anywhere that the name had changed so we felt a bit embarrassed going into the hotel just in case it was the wrong one! It turns out the name was changed 3 weeks previously, it's a shame they didn't bother to notify us beforehand.

POSITIVES: the warm cookie they give you on arrival; I asked for a city view room which we got (and the view is amazing); the iMac in the room; fluffy dressing gowns; fab hairdryer (so rare in hotels to get a decent one) and nice bathroom products. The staff were always polite. The view from the Skylounge is great but prices are extortionate so we had just one drink each. Perhaps they should consider a discount for residents? We ate in the City Cafe one evening and the food was absolutely fabulous as well as the service. I think it was 32 euro each for a 3 course menu but once we added drinks, coffee etc the total bill came to 115 euro for two of us (which was absolutely worth it for the standard of food and service).

NEGATIVES: very long queues to check in and out (it took 15 min to check in, 30 min to check out); sometimes a long wait for lifts and sometimes the key card wouldn't work!; very limited tea/coffee products in the room (no milk, just 2 tiny cartons of cream - no good in tea and only enough for 2 cups of coffee); all extras are VERY expensive; a lot of talk about the 'Careline' in the literature in the room but no information on how to contact them!; the restaurants weren't open at the times stated on the key card e.g. the City Cafe is not open at 1:00 pm and the kitchens were closed at 10:30 pm, not 11 pm as stated.

Overall it was nice but I'm not likely to stay there again. Even though the staff are very polite, you know that you are just a number in this big money making machine. If I was to stay in Amsterdam again I think I would look at other hotels that are better value for money though I would definitely book an evening meal in the City Cafe again!

This hotel seems to have changed names a couple of times since it was built. I stayed there in early Dec 2011 when it was the Mint Hotel, and now it is the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station! Most confusing for some travellers no doubt.
Anyway - location is brilliant, you come out of Centraal Station on the city side and just turn left and teh hotel is 5 minutes walk away. It is a very modern, good looking building. Check in is very efficient. The rooms are great - very comfortable beds, good views to the city, good shower - and each room has an iMac TV-computer. Amazing. If you dont know iMac TVs the on/off switch is just behind the screen on the left! Good, quite nights sleep.
Breakfast is help yourself - and good selection of continental. Cost was around 140 euros I think - which for the location and quality is excellent in Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Probably best to ask for a room looking towards the city so you dont overlook the rail lines. I had...

The hotel's really of high quality, it's brand new, beautiful and it provides best free wi-fi I've ever seen. And the location is also very cool - it's in the center of all the city activities, but at the same time the place is very quite, and that is really valuable considering Amsterdam's craziness.

The main problems we had with this hotel - were with the furniture.

First, the bed is on WHEELS. So, it moves. With no stops on those wheels, you can move your bed all night long from the wall to the wall. Who the [--] decided, that a bed should be standing on wheels?..

The second problem is a wardrobe. It is very small itself and there's no any other boxes of shelves for clothes. That a real problem, 'cause we had to keep all our clothes in the bag during whole stay in this hotel.
