For a few days we stayed in Amsterdam in the Doubletree hotel, only 3 minutes' walk from the Central Station. Due to the good connection with Schiphol this is also for travelers who arrive by plane an ideal location. For checking in or out sufficient staff was present, that went both smoothly.
The hotel is relatively new and has modern rooms. Which in terms of location can broadly be divided in three groups : on the inside of the building with views on a light shaft (I hate such a siting), on the southern outside overlooking the old city of Amsterdam (nice, but relatively expensive) and on the northern outside overlooking the river. There on the 8th floor was our room, with which we were very satisfied because of its size and modern interior. However, the lower floors on that side can be a little noisy as the trains go by near your ( sound proof) window.
A nice surprise was the presence in the room of an iMac computer with free internet access and a display that also functioned as TV screen with a razor-sharp image. Too bad the wifi connection in the room was slow, for instance downloading my newspaper lasted 6 minutes instead of 50 seconds. (It was curious that it goes much faster if you go down the hall for a moment. Or else you can lay your ipad on the ground before the door to the hallway (in which case you should alert your wife before she comes out of the bathroom, in our case it went just right). The only thing we found somewhat less pleasant ,are the dimensions of the bed, it is a bit on the small side (approx. 140 cm wide), but with 2x a BMI of < 28, it was not very bothersome.
As distinctive points we can further mention the well-equipped fitness room (though a little bit cramped ) and the Sky Lounge on the 11th floor, one of the few places in Amsterdam where you have a beautiful view of the city. I recommend everyone to go here for a drink or snack. Please note: cocktails are pricey. We also thought the same of the price of a coffee (we settled on € 12.50 for 2) but a subsequent time, the waitress attended us on the free refill and that made it € 3.12 per cup. And with the coffee they also serve delicious cookies and sweets ! Do so.
Based on these experiences, we highly recommend this Doubletree.
