“Great New Year treat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014 via mobile

I stayed in this hotel for two days just after New Year. The hotel is well maintained, brilliantly positioned and is served well by a great team of employees.

I was lucky enough to be upgraded on check in so for my stay I enjoyed the luxury of a suite which overlooked the main area outside Grand Centraal Station. This was a great place to base ourselves as the facilities of the hotel were just what we were after and the hotel is a very short walk from both the main station and the main visitor attractions. The canal cruises all departed just a few minutes walk away as did the bike tours. The infamous cafes and Red Light District are also literally minutes away too.

The main bar area on the top floor often has live music and entertainment in place and the view from here is simply amazing. Lastly the best bit for me was the complimentary pick and mix in the Exec Lounge this was available 24 hours a day and was a nice finishing touch that summed up just how everything had been thought of in this great hotel.

Putting aside the fabulous location, quiet compared to most all other City Center Hotels in general and in Amsterdam specifically, the fabulous Hilton trained staff, great, wild Lounge on top, GREAT buffet and hip bar/restaurant..... the BEST view of Amsterdam is from this Hotel....period. I was high over amsterdam, 110 stories up with a 75' x 50' garden patio ajacent to my room 1016. They called it a Balcony. Quick walk to Central station, whether you have been there or not, that is important. Boy, I wish I was there.

Room Tip: HIGH floor/ city or water views. Get 1016 or the corner suite across the hall, also with access to t...

The hotel is located very near the central station. 2 mins walk. The hotel has a Starbucks in the complex and a couple of restaurants. The rooms are quite small and one has to keep expectations low in the room front. The other issue is that the restaurants close by 1030. I arrived late into Amsterdam and could not go to any restaurant for a bite. The staff is good and helpful. OK for business hotel but not recommended for a leisure trip.

Thank you for your feedback! Sorry to hear we did not exceed you expectations for your stay with us. Please note that after the kitchen closes we still offer hot dishes from our RoomService Menu. And our Guest Service team could give you some recommendations in restaurants to go to. We do hope we can welcome you again in the future! Caroline

the location is perfect... close to central station and city center.
they have a lovely terrace overlooking the city, but the service was so bad... very very slow. Another issue is that they do not serve nuts or crackers along with the drinks, rather they only serve popcorn - which sounds as a weird combination.

The location was great, but I don't think it was worth 370 Euro (2 nights)! We stayed 3 more nights at the Hilton Amsterdam which was not as modern, but nicer overall and only cost us 227 Euro. We were upgraded at both places (Hilton gold status).

The lounge area for breakfast and in the evening was good (enough food selections to fill you up including scrambled eggs and fresh fruit) and the internet was fast. We did not see crowding issues in the executive lounge. We were got an angled room so it was slightly larger and I couldn't hear noise from neighbors or any street noise through the double-paned glass windows. Everything was very clean and modern (iMac for a TV in the room). The beds are very firm, but comfortable enough with great pillows. The bathroom is small with minimal counter space. The shower reminded me of one from an RV and there is no tub.

The staff are excellent and being able to walk to Dam square and the surrounding sites was really great for our first 2 days in Amsterdam while we were getting our bearings. In the future though, I won't mind staying further out and just taking the tram to get anywhere not within walking distance.

We came as tourists with only a day and a half to see the city and this hotel helped us make the most of it! Extremely close to all central locations and a very comfortable place to stay after our many hours of travelling. The rooms are very small (like most of Europe) but our view more than made up for it! Simply amazing!
We also had a room with balcony that gave us access to the complimentary lounge area and that had fantastic food and drinks with very good service. Worth it for sure.
The location was perfect for us as we wanted to see the central area, the red light district, had a canal cruise which started right near the hotel and the train station is literally beside it for when we went to our next country stop!
All in all...The beds were comfortable, the shower was great and the location was perfect.
Will definitely stay here again next time we are back!

Room Tip: Upgrading to a balcony room was very worthwhile for us as we had a fantastic view to enjoy and made...

Many thanks for your stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station. It is great to read that you have had a great stay and would highly recommend our hotel.

I am very happy to read you have enjoyed all the advantages of our Executive Rooms with a Balcony.

Should you plan to return to Amsterdam (as all in all a day and a half is not enough to see the whole city as there is so much to see and do) we would love to welcome you back.

Warm regards,
Caroline

We stayed at the Double Tree for two days/nights and thought it was a great hotel, albeit on the expensive side.

We booked a King City Suite as there were no other rooms available for the dates we wanted, and because we were HHonors members, we thought we might as well earn the points for the stay. We can only comment on the Suite but don't have a point of comparison in terms of size for the other room types.

We arrived at the hotel at about 8.15am, and of course the room wasn't ready, and we were offered the 'Priority Room Cleaning' service at 40 Euro that was already available. As we didn't want to waste a whole day waiting around for the room, we paid for the service. Personally, I think this is a bit of a 'con', if the room is available, then there should be no reason why it couldn't have been made available for us at no cost!

We got a corner suite at the end of the corridor, so it was very quiet during the whole stay. The living room was spacious, had a coffee machine (can't remember if it was a Nespresso), sofa bed, side table and an Apple TV. Bathroom was not attached to the bedroom, which was a bit weird, but not a big deal. Separate bath and shower stall. Room was big enough for a queen bed, another Apple TV, narrow table/counter and a cupboard. Everything was very well 'put together' giving it a modern feel, other than the cupboard in the room which seemed like an after thought and was not part of the overall design.

Complimentary breakfast at the Executive Lounge is convenient, although it's got a limited spread. But if you just need a coffee and a croissant for breakfast, then it's fine. They are clearly under-staffed in the lounge, there seemed to be only one person minding the entire lounge, and she has to clear and set tables, top-up the food trays and coffee machine as well as take any 'special orders'. We asked for hot chocolate in the first morning and was pleasantly surprised when she asked if we wanted the same again, the following morning. Some reviewers complained about the limited choices available, but it's the same across many Hiltons that we have stayed in. If you want a wide spread, then go to the main restaurant and pay for your own breakfast. You're not obligated to take the 'free but limited breakfast'!

The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the Central Station, which was very convenient. A first-class train ticket from the airport was something like 11 Euro, and the ride was only 18 minutes. From the hotel, you could get to the Old Town and the Red Light District, a cruise set-off point (there are a few around the city) and a hop-on/hop-off stop with a 10-minute walk. Fifteen minutes would get you to the Royal Palace and Rembrandt Square.

For those who are visiting Amsterdam for the first time, and you're not sure about the location, the hotel is convenient for visiting the more 'chilled' part of Amsterdam. Because of its proximity to the Red Light District and many 'smoking' options, this part of town is more popular with bachelor parties/stag do's/groups of partying people (men and women) and therefore, more rowdy and more of a 'party atmosphere'. We stayed another two nights at a different part of town and had a good point of comparison between the different areas.

Would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend the hotel. Although I would like to not have paid quite so much for the hotel room.

Room Tip: City view, corner suites are quiet. Rooms closer to the rooftop lounge may get noisy.
