“Good budget hotel to stay in for a night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2012

I stayed at the hostel for one night before we left early in the morning to go back to the UK. The service was good and the worker at the front desk was very helpful. The hostel offers bathrooms and toilets (those were slightly smelly), a small kitchen and a communal room with free internet. Our room for me and three others consisted of two sets of bunk beds. The room was clean although the curtains a little moudly, and the bunk beds were surprisingly comfortable. It was also very quiet on the side we were on (third floor at the back) and there are many restaurants and coffee shops within very close vicinity. The lights over the mirror and sink in the room didn't work however and there were very limited plug sockets. Overall, it was good value for money and functional, but don't expect anything grand (although most people wouldn't with hostels anyway!).

We wanted to find an hostel in the center of Amsterdam. So we choose this one as we saw that comments were OK. When we arrived there, we had to pay the 5% of the price (they write it in very very small on your reservation). We booked a twin bed room because the double bed one was no available...We had a bunk bed !!! The room was really tiny and dirty(a french student room is bigger than that), the mattress really thin and uncomfortable. It was noisy as there is bars and restaurants in the same street. We asked the receptionist to cancel our 2 last night and the owner refused to give us our money back saying that the cancellation was impossible.
We had to stay there. In the morning we had a cold shower and had to wait a lot to take it as there is only one shower for about 5 rooms. Breakfast was peanut butter and toast. I had to admit that they have 2 computers in the dinning room but you can use it for 15min...the internet is not working in the room. About the kitchen: there is one really little fridge for the entire hostel, one micro wave and 2 old hotplates. There is no activities proposed. The owner said "here you are my guest". He should understand that when you pay that much, you should be a customer.
When we had to live, we asked to let the baggage: they asked 3euros for each baggage !!!
We paid about 40 euros each for this place...for the same price, we were able to book a bed and breakfast or a cute hotel. Amsterdam is not that big and you can bike easily to one place to an other so....don't book a room there, especially if you are a couple because you will have the feeling to be stolen.

Honestly, you can find better elsewhere.

Yes it's kind of cheap, but it's not worth it at all.

Disgusting toilet and shower. I've preferred to skip shower rather to use those awful showers. So gross.

When I was there, there was a lot of disrespectful and really loud people.

Tiny tiny rooms.Terrible. Never seen such small rooms. And not clean either.

Not a fun hostel, no activities. When I was there (mid-december) I've met no one. Empty hostel.

Facilities: free wifi (worked on and off...), kitchen, common area.

The district is quite nice and beautiful, but you are fare away from the Red Light.

Room Tip: Don't choose a room there. Just don't.

CONS: The rooms are very small, not very clean (nor was the bathroom) and a private room I booked had a bunk bed in it which was pretty disappointing for a couple. Narrow flights of stairs with a five floor walk up no lift so if you've got lots/heave luggage I would avoid. It's in the middle of an utter tourist trap area and a bit west of central action. Do not eat at an of the nearby restaurants are they are all bland and overpriced PROS: Friendly staff, helpful, free breakfast (decent continental) and free computers in the lobby.

10$ key deposit.
Also the rooms are this shade of neon green that is kind of hard to look at if you're spending a lot of time in the room.

As I said... it was So-So, it's not clean but it's not horrific.

Room Tip: Not worth booking here if you're ordering a private room.

I had made a mistake with booking this hostel and they wouldn't let me fix it. Ended up charging me for 2 people instead of 1.

The room was smell, dirty, moldy, and overall just not clean in any capacity. I would never stay here again.

Aside from the fact that the hotel rooms and bathrooms were incredibly dirty and small the staff is by far the weakest point. We did not even stay a night before we decided to move elsewhere. I was traveling with a group of friends and from the very beginning the manager tried to squeeze every dime out of us. He tried to charge us additional fees on top of what we already had paid for with our credit cards. Before all of us reached the hotel he managed to get 100 euro in cash from my friend claiming it was a "deposit," which he later never returned.

We modified our trip to 2 nights instead of 3 well in advance and he refused to accept that. Instead he charged us for the night we didn't stay anyway and was incredibly rude. So rude that while we tried to resolve the matter, he gave our group the silent treatment. Not exactly what you expect from a grown man let alone a hotel MANAGER. Upon further investigation regarding the charges we faced, he provided false receipts and when we called him out on it he simply hid the receipt and refused to show it to us again. He also did not return the deposit for the key (10 euro). There was nothing we could do, even his colleague who agreed with us said his hands were tied. He said "there is no convincing this man." We called our credit card company to report this hotel, so heed my warning, STAY AWAY!

We were robbed of a day, over 100 euros, we were treated very poorly but thankfully there were other hostels in the area. Even the managers of those hostels know of Hotel Orfeo's miserable reputation. Budget travelers and hostels go hand in hand and the fact that this place tries to take advantage of that is truly pathetic.

STAY AWAY, PLENTY OF OTHER OPTIONS NEARBY...JUST ASK AROUND!

As everyone has said good location
But a poor hostel. I can't bring myself to call it a hotel. Rooms are tiny, reasonably clean on inside. Difficult to get bags up stairs.

Biggest issue is that there is only ONE shower and toilet for a whole floor. So queuing is necessary. It really does not work.

You would be better to stay at Hans brinkler because at least you have access to bathrooms there.

I wouldn't think it is good value for money
