Very nice hotel, not far from the city centre by tram (15 minutes).
Room allocated was small, maybe smaller than expected for such a hotel, but nicely equipped and clean.
Free wifi and complimentary coffee and tea making facilities make a nice package for the price we paid.
Staff was generally very friendly, all but a male member of staff at reception who was very rude to us on the phone when we asked for toilet tissue and drinking cups as the housekeeper had forgotten to re-stock. He might have been busy at reception but it's no excuse to treat us like timewasters...
We tried the 17th floor bar where both staff and service were of a high standard, so they deserve a mention here too.
Last, but not least, the free airport pick-up is a nice and convenient service run by a nice and friendly couple of drivers who try to make the short journey as pleasant as possible, so top marks for them too.
One final piece of advice though: avoid buying drinks or nibbles at reception, it's too expensive!

We stayed in the hotel over Easter (March 29 - April 01) and found it to be an excellent hotel and one we would definitely return and have no problem recommending it to anyone travelling to Amsterdam.

Very surprised to read the comments about reception as we found the complete opposite in that they could not do enough for us and we arrived very early in the morning and our rooms were ready. I agree with comments about the shuttle as there were maybe 10/12 people waiting with us at the airport and the driver could only take 5 and made it plain he was not too bothered if we liked it or not!! Perhaps a little better planning is in order. The return to the airport at 5e is great value and very quick.

We had purchased a 4 day public transport pass for 21.00e in arrivals so we got the train to Amsterdam Central for 4e and then the tram to the hotel. The stop is right outside and even over the holiday weekend the trams were very frequent.

The rooms are a bit small, and storage space a little limited, but they are clean and modern, and we found the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was great with both hot and cold food, nice coffee, and although very busy there was always plenty of everything and any empty dishes were replaced immedaitely.

The views from our room (14th Floor) were fantastic, particlulaly at night, and even better from the bar on the 17th. Overall a great experience and we would come again.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better the rooms.

Very nice hotel, only 15 minutes by tram from city centre. Very good breakfast, with all you could like.
Information desk and check-in operations not so fast, and the dinner self service stopping too early (at 8 pm) are between disadvantages.
In general, strongly suggestable.

Beautiful hotel, with great views. Stayed on 12th floor and the rooms are very nice and modern, only downfall is the bed is two twins pushed together with 2 seperate duvets although they were very comfortable. Breakfast was one of the best I've had with plenty of choice and was regularly topped up, served 7-10am. Waited for shuttle bus when arrived at the airport but we waited for over 20minutes and when it did arrive it could only take 6 people and there were 14 people waiting including us, another bus was called however we had waited long enough and were freezing so we ended up getting a taxi which cost 35 euro so definitely wait for the shuttle which is free. Got the shuttle bus back to the airport for 5 euros per person, well worth it. Staff were friendly however we had to go back to reception to find out about breakfast as we weren't advised at check in. We used the free computers with free Internet and the staff allowed us to print something using there printer. We werent supplied with any further cups in our room throughout our 3 night stay so was unable to have another drink (coffee/tea) after the first day. When leaving we were told we owed money for the bar but we advised that this was incorrect. The receptionist quickly apologised and stated it would be wiped off with no further questions. Tram is just outside the hotel which comes regularly- tram 13 is needed to get into the central part. Generally amsterdam is expensive however we found the hotel had the best price for drinks but the food was expensive. Would def recommend hotel to others as all in all we had a good stay but would advise to visit during a warmer climate!

Brief impressions
PROS: Good location, tram nr 13 at 50metres takes you to city centre in about 15minutes, rooms very clean, very friendly staff, free shuttle from the airport (but 5 euro/pp at return), very good extended breakfast at 17th floor, with an amazing panoramic view of the city, very good quality sleep (no noise was heard from the outside the room), luggage parking at level -1 (with cipher lockers), free tea every day (including electric tea cup, sugar and creamer), ironing board, hairdryer, very good quality beds
CONS: rooms very small, rooms quite cold for our taste (max temperature to set was 25degrees Celsius, never reached, don't know why), no heaters in the room or bathroom (just airconditioned central system - it resets itself everytime you leave the room, so we have to remember everytime to reprogram it at 25 degrees.... weird), no bathrobes, no minifridge (and no minibar), no bathroom slippers, no bathtub, windows cannot open

Room Tip: Try upper rooms

Dear Razvan G,

Thank you for your detailed review about your stay in Amsterdam and our hotel. We are glad you have enjoyed your stay and our location between the airport and the city centre.

We apologize that the temperature was a bit too low in your room. Next time please just ask the Front Office to look into this matter for sometimes the individual temperature regulation has not the right settings and it is easy for us to improve the performance. You have to put your key card in the energy saver in your room to switch on the lights and heather.

The Ramada Apollo Amsterdam Centre Team and I are looking forward to welcoming you back during on one of your next trips to Amsterdam.

The hotel is new ( only been opened for 6 months). It was exceptionally clean. The staff were excellent. The only downside was the food . What there was was tasty and well presented but not an extensive menu. The restaurant was on the 17th floor giving a wonderful view over Amsterdam. The rooms were lovely if a little on the cold side. The beds were large and comfy.

Room Tip: Go to a higher level for the views.

I stayed at the Ramada Apollo for a week at the end of March. The weather was terrible with below freezing temperatures and a strong 20 -30 MPH wind many days. Other than the poor weather in Amsterdam, the hotel was excellent. It was a delightful experience. There were many positives for hotel including a very convenient tram No. 13 on the main street in front of the hotel. It is a short ride to downtown. The hotel shuttle to / from the airport was a huge advantage over many of the other places to stay. Free to use on the inbound and only 5 Euro to return. There is a very large supermarket called Derk’s and a bakery next door to it only 3 blocks away (a 5-7 minute walk). When leaving the hotel, go right on the main road with the tram to the first traffic light at the main square. The supermarket and bakery are in the left back corner of the square next to the round restaurant. I bought breakfast there every morning and found the prices very comparable to those in the US. The hotel is extremely quiet and I never heard another guest while in my room for a week. The queen and king beds were very comfortable and up to American standards (not the normal 2 twins pushed together as is common in Europe). I was upgraded to a corner deluxe room which was 30-40% larger than a standard room with a huge bath with a separate bath tub and shower plus a very large his / her double sink. The bath was double in size to those in the standard rooms. There is a lovely and safe park next door to take a nice walk which I did.

There were only a few negatives for the hotel. The worst one was that the receptionist (her name badge started with an “H”) would not allow anyone to check in the first Sunday I was there until after 3 PM. She insisted they were full and needed to clean the rooms. But after all night international flights, I and many other people were exhausted and forced to sit in the lobby for many hours. We all understood the need for other guests to check-out and the rooms to be cleaned. However, there were many people checking out and the house cleaning staff were continuously cleaning the rooms starting at 8 AM. Yet this receptionist repeatedly told me and others to only come back after 3 PM and never bothered to even check to see if some of the rooms were cleaned by noon or 1 PM. Out of frustration with the situation, I went to another receptionist at 2 PM and my room was available! I am sure H would have still refused to check for me. This is really a poor policy and more effort needs to be made to “fast track” early arriving international guest who have been on all night flights. Refusing to check the computer to see if an assigned room is available is poor customer service. Not all high floor rooms have great views. There is a large fabric sign on the outside of the building covering the entire windows of 4 to 6 rooms on floors 15 and 16 on one side of the building. Rooms with numbers 1523, 1623, etc. have this problem. It is like looking out through sheer curtains from the inside so avoid these rooms and others close to them.

Overall, the staff was excellent except for the one receptionist as noted above. H needs to be retrained in providing customer service and not routinely fall back on the most restrictive hotel policy as an excuse for not checking room availability.

Overall, I was very pleased with the hotel and would recommend it to my friends.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are big upgrade from the standard rooms even on the lower floors. Go to the supermarket...

Dear Ed999StLouis,

Thank you so much for your nice comments!

I'm delighted to read that our hotel was excellent and that It was a delightful experience!
That is exactly what we are ranking for!

I am sorry about the trouble you had with receptionist "H". Our cleaning staff start cleaning the rooms from 10 am on Sunday, so not at 8 am. Our receptionists always try to check in guests who come early to the hotel. Unfortunately it is not possible to check in guests so early when we are fully booked. I sincerely hope you understand this situation.

I sincerely hope the good things prevailed at the end of the day and that they will eventually make you decide to choose our hotel again for a future Amsterdam trip.

Kind regards,
