“Great location, great hotel”
Reviewed 28 April 2012

Just come back from a couple of days at The Toren. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. We had one of the recently refurbished standard rooms which was fantastic: large and very well equipped. Breakfast was delicious.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the recently refurbished rooms

This is my favourite hotel I have ever stayed at. I was in a small, single room, which was substantially cheaper than their other rooms (it was tiny) but no less comfortable or luxurious. Beautiful and uniquely decorated, with all of the amenities and then some (bathrobe, slippers). Internet access everywhere. At first I was disappointed that my room was not in the main building, but it was completely fine and as a woman travelling solo I still felt completely comfortable and secure. The room even had a double door, with a vestibule entrance, an additional lock as well as a chain.

My booking did not include breakfast, but the hotel was kind enough to provide it me free of charge - normally costs 14 euros. And it would have been worth 14 euros! The bar is lovely as well with great wine selections and these is a great garden out back as well to enjoy a drink with fresh air or a cigarette, both of which I did daily.

The staff were extremely friendly, knowledgable and accommodating as well. They made wonderful restaurant suggestions and were happy to make reservations on my behalf. If you order a wake-up call, which is automated, the front desk will call you personally to ensure that it came.

Brilliant location as well! Walking distance to everywhere (but central Amsterdam is fairly small).

Really my favourite hotel yet. I will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: I stayed in the cheapest room and it was still lovely. But no view - at least not in the second buil...

We read all the reviews here and booked ahead for a bit of luxury after a canal/ bike cruise. It was just the best. Easily the most comfortable bed ever. Bathrooms ultra modern and decor deep romantic colors. It was a bit surprised at the darkness of the purples and maroons but it grew on me and I saw how cleverly it had all been put together. They have breakfast in their tiny lounge and you can sit on the soft sofas and have the buffet as late as 11 am. The bar at the other end of the same room is also open til 1 am and really worth a visit just to see how splendid it is. They have arrangements with Christophe's a restaurant round the corner for food prepared by a chef of Michelin star awards, to order in and serve in your room but much nicer to choose the little window table in their lounge. The staff couldn't be more helpful and will buy you boat trip tickets or any of the museum entrances which are worth getting ahead to avoid the huge lines at the door. The location also means you can walk anywhere and they have bikes if you care to brave it out there with everyone else! Any return to Amsterdam will find me at the Toren!

We read the reviews....we knew we were in for a treat. The Toren surpassed all of our expectations. The "neighborhood" feel rather than the busy downtown atmosphere was what we look for and this location was perfect. We had rain and they even had big umbrellas for the guests to borrow. We had the most spectacular room ever (418) HUGE...murals on the guilded ceilings.....jewel tones.....enormous marble mantle.....spotless.....spiral stairs to the bathroom....best bed we ever slept in....fabulous jacuzzi and hand held strong shower.....towel warmer.....and a charming garden facing balcony.

I also must mention the staff. From the moment we arrived they were extremely helpful and friendly. They had great answers to my silly questions and always with a smile. They spent a lot of time helping us "fix" our train reservation to Paris and even had Advil at midnight when I had a headache. And - I must add that their uniforms are stunning as well.

We travel a lot....many hotels.....and the Toren is by far our favorite and we will be returning next May and YOU should do yourselves a favor and stay with them too. You wont be sorry.

Room Tip: the hotel is in 2 separate canal houses with 4 or 5 residences in between them.....each hotel buildi...

Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor, my husband and I chose The Toren for our 3 night break in Amsterdam and we weren't disappointed! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had booked a deluxe room with spa bath and while it was quite expensive, it was worth every penny and we would definitely book it again. The buffet breakfast, priced at €14 each, was great value with plenty to choose from. The hotel itself is situated in a nice quiet location but still within walking distance of Dam Square and local attractions. We really can't fault The Toren at all and look forward to our next stay there.

The staff here are very accommodating. We had a deluxe room (overlooking canal, no noise, no flies as previously suggested), there was a jacuzzi bath in the room which was just lovely. Its a good location, about 5 mins wander to much of the action. The reception staff are very, very helpful. And the communal areas areas are really nice. My only gripe (hence the four stars), is for the price we paid (320 euros per night), I think they could have included breakfast

Room Tip: 119 Overlooks the canal. Didnt get to see any of the courtyard rooms

With a seductive boudoir feel to it, you can't help but fall in love with the Toren. Perfectly placed for wandering, both times we've stayed here have been fabulous, our rooms sumptuous and stylish. The first trip here I had to check in early, feeling unwell, and because our standard room wasn't ready, was given a beautiful upgraded suite overlooking an inner courtyard where a fashion shoot was taking place.

On our last trip in December, we had the ground floor suite that opens directly onto the Toren's garden terrace, with a little seating area cordoned off just for the use of the room. It made us hanker for summer, not 5 below and rain.

Just don't stay anywhere else - thoroughly recommend it.
