“Small and beautifully positioned”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

This small hotel is situated within a few minutes of a tram station, the Van Gogh museum and the Rijksmuseum (a few minutes further and you are in the old town with it's canals and gabled houses). The reception is well staffed by friendly people who speak excellent English. We arrived several hours before our check in time but we were offered secure storage for our luggage and could just dump our bags and go sightseeing. We were given a free city map on which the receptionist marked our hotel and pointed out the location of the trams, museums etc. The room we had was clean, quiet and very well appointed. We also had air con which was very welcome during what out taxi driver called a "heat storm". We stayed for 2 nights. Breakfast was fine on our first morning but was decidedly "iffy" on our second. This was certainly down to staffing. On the first morning the male staff member kept the buffet stocked and the tables cleared. On the second morning things were constantly running out and tables left cluttered. We self cleared half of our table and when we finished our breakfast the dirty cups and plates were still untouched - the female staff member must have seen the clutter because she came to our table with coffee and when I asked for milk she indicated the small jug in amongst the clutter. This small 'glitch' aside, Amsterdam was lovely and so was our stay at the Jan Luyken. We will doubtless return to both in the future.

My wife and I spent a post-cruise stay in Amsterdam at the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is beautiful, inside and out, and the staff was great. And of course there is the hotel's superb location in Amsterdam's Museum District, on a quiet, tree-lined street, just steps from the Museumplein, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, canal cruises and much more.

As for the staff, they were helpful and friendly from our arrival to our departure. Though we arrived much earlier than the hotel's check-in time, the staff found us an immediately available room with the same amenities as the room we had booked (a spacious superior room that included free WiFi). And they helped us arrange transportation to the airport on our early-morning departure. In between, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautifully appointed hotel, including a delightful light supper in the outdoor garden portion of the hotel's bar-restaurant. We highly recommend this hotel.

I recently spent one night at the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken and enjoyed my stayed. After a long international flight my family was quickly greeted by their morning staff. We were offered breakfast along with some tips on how to make the most of our 1 day layover. The hotel provided a safe place for our luggage, since we couldn't check in until the afternoon. The hotel is easy to get to using the bus from the airport. A cab is also quick too.
The rooms at the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken are not huge, but very clean. The bathroom was very nice too. The location of this hotel makes it an ideal stop over. It is just down the street from the Rijksmuseum in a quiet neighborhood. If I were to go back to Amsterdam, this would be my first choice for an overnight.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights, when visiting Amsterdam for the first time. It is ideally placed for the museums and exclusive shopping area, Chanel and LV being just around the corner! The hotel is beautifully furnished, clean and well appointed. The breakfast had a good choice and the freshly baked breads were absolutely delicious. The little bar was friendly with very good service and served some snacks. We would recommend the hotel, if you enjoy 'small but perfectly formed' rooms, with all the ususAl facilities. The bathroom we had was roomy with a good shower. All the facilities we would expect are there, except free Wifi, we had to pay €34 for four days access. However, everything about our stay was delightful. The hotel is a very short walk from the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum, if you are planning a cultural break. The queues at both of these venues were very long, but we had an early breakfast and were at the museums by about 9:15 a.m., avoiding the worst of the long queues. We walked to many of the sights in Amsterdam, as the hotel is ideally sited for this. We would love to go back to this hotel, it was absolutely charming, with helpful staff.

As Amsterdam Hotels go, this hotel is a great value. My wife and I stayed two nights prior to our cruise to Norway and one night on our return. We booked a Superior Room with Breakfast and Wifi. Upon arriving from the U.S. the staff made a special effort to minimize the wait for our room by having it cleaned first. The room was lovely. It was quite large and well appointed and the air conditioning and wifi were very good. The staff was very courteous and helpful as well. The location of the hotel is also great - two minutes walk from the Museum Plain. Breakfast was quite good as well. I'd stay agin in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The Superior Rooms are well worth the price.

the hotel Van Luyken is a really lovely hotel and this was our 2nd visit with in the last 12 months. its only 2 minutes from the main tram line which takes you up to the central station and right through the heart of Amsterdam. its only a 5 minute walk from the bottom section of Leidersplien which houses the hard rock and other bars and restaurants.

The rooms are tidy if a little small but as your not in the room much this is of little concern. I would recommend this hotel for a trip to Amsterdam

It is a small, cozy hotel. Good breakfast and clean, comfortable rooms. No in room cable TV (only an old one but that can be forgiven) Very close to Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Musuem, Concergebow. What I enjoyed at night was Leidseplatz where you find many coffees and restaurants from many parts of the world and a nice, friendly ambiance. If you prefer red light distict and coffe shops you can easily find a taxi.

One recommendation. Take a print of the name and address if you choose this hotel. Some taxi drivers, specially in the airport does not know exactly where it is.
