“This IS a GEM”
Reviewed 10 April 2009

W e loved this smart, modern small hotel, situated in the museum and fashion district close to the canal boats and tram stops. Unfortunately the standard boutique room we had booked on the net was the size of a British single. However, we asked to be upgraded to a superior room and this was modern, well appointed, large and attractive. The Recepiton staff were charming, efficient and could not have been more helpful with our problem and also with booking restaurants for us in the evening. We would definitely stay here again.

I surprised my husband with a birthday trip to Amsterdam, and I'm so glad I chose this hotel. It was in a perfect situation for the Van Gogh museum, and Rijksmuseum, and just round the corner from the couture shops, Armani, Versace etc. Great for window shopping!! It is also very easy to walk into the city centre or pick up a canal tour. We had a standard room, not large, but perfectly adequate for a 3 day stay. The room was very clean, and my husband loved the Memory foam mattress. The hotel is quirky as it has been developed from 3 houses melded together, such a change from the concrete blocks of some hotels. The staff were very welcoming, and helpful when it came to finding and booking restaurants, and airport shuttles etc. The breakfast was also excellent, but pricey, but then the whole city was expensive due to the current exchange rate. It was also very cold at this time of year. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and we will go back in the future.

We stayed for four nights in December and found this the perfect hotel for a short visit to the city. The location was great for visiting the museums and we were able to walk to every other central location for shopping and eating.
The room was small but everything was there - a good bed and good reading lights - deep bathtub and a quiet location. The hotel staff was helpful and everything seemed to run efficiently. The breakfast was good but expensive. Overall a good hotel for a city visit.

Stayed in the Bilderberg Jan Luyken hotel for 1 night, very nice hotel at a 2 minute walk from the museumplein. The standard rooms are fairly small but offer everything you need and are well maintained.
Hotel does not offer dining facilities, however there are plenty of restaurants within 5 minute walking distance. Good breakfast buffet and good service from hotel staff. Definitely a hotel I would recommend for some nights in Amsterdam.

We had paid in advance and had reservation for 2 nights stay at this hotel, on arrival were informed that our resversation did not exist on the hotels's computer system. The duty managress assured us that we will be booked into a hotel of similar star rating locally. In the event we were booked into hotel of lower star rating without much compensation and an attitude. I feel very let down by this hotel's management being dishonest and will not recomend this hotel for this reason.

  • Liked — Hotel looked clean
  • Disliked — unprofessional and poor attitude of staff, and being given dishonest information

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night when visiting Amsterdam for a weekend away. I had been to Amsterdam before and seen the 'main' tourist part like Dan Square and the red light district, but we wanted to stay away from that and see another part of Amsterdam.

This hotel is in a great location and showed that there is more to Amsterdam than sleaze! It is about 5 minutes on the tram from the central station to the Rijksmuseum, and then about a 2 minute walk to the hotel - very easy to find.

The area is called as the museum and fashion district of Amsterdam, and is near PC Hoofstraat where the designer shops are located and the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum. Leidseplein, with several excellent bars and restuarants is about 5-10 minutes walk away.

We arrived at the hotel early, and our rooms were not ready, but there was no problem with storing luggage. We found all of the staff on reception to be very helpful and friendly.

We had booked standard double rooms. We stayed in room 110 which was on the first floor overlooking the front of the hotel. The room size was fine and we had plenty of room. I found it to be no different to most city centre hotels I have stayed in.

The furnishings were modern and clean, the bed was unbelievably comfortable (my friend compared it to floating on a cloud!), and the shower was very powerful (although strangely placed on the side of the bath rather than at the end!).

We didn't have breakfast as we thought E19 was a bit steep, but there are plenty of cafes round the corner.

We thought this was an excellent hotel, and would consider returning to explore more of this lovely city.
