“A very good choice for the 'Dam”
Reviewed 16 April 2010

We stayed here because of a great deal with Expedia, and pre-arranged to have breakfast for all 4 nights (saving E 4.50 a day each). I don't agree with another of the reviews which said the breakfast was awful, as we found it delicious, fresh and literally all you could eat. Get stuck in, we weren't hungry until the afternoon! The room was a good size for Amsterdam - I have paid about the same for a tiny, loud double in a tatty hotel 200 metres away - and the bathroom and furnishings were of nice quality. The staff were courteous, friendly and professional. Despite being extensively modernised the hotel still retains a lot of charm, having been converted from townhouses.
The hotel is in a great location for the Museum Quarter (or fancy brand shops if that's your bag) with the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseums within a couple of minutes walk. The trams from Centraal Station also stop very close by. It didn't take us long to walk into Old Centre, de Pijp or even closer to Leidseplein for emergency supplies.
If you want a lovely trip for a sunny day, take the 170 bus from by the Concertgebouw to the Amsterdamse Bos, a massive park south of the centre where you can hire a Dutch bike for about a tenner a day and cycle merrily around a lovely landscape, stopping for coma-inducing pancakes in the hidden cafe.
Also if you're a film buff, check out the fantastic Kriterion cinema on Roetersstraat.

I stayed in this hotel for a few days as I wanted to take my mother to the tulip fields. It cost 33 euros to get there by taxi from the airport and 41 euros on the way back! The hotel is clean and the staff really helpful (their recommended restaurant The Pantry is fantastic - you will have to book as it fills up and for 20 euros each you can have a fantastic main course and desert - it's brilliant and local). Whilst it is handy for the museums and really expensive designer shops, it is quite a way from the centre. My main criticism is that the rooms are tiny, even by city standards. Ours was supposedly a "twin" but the beds were pushed together with no gap and there was still only just room to stand on the other side. The photos are seductive and misleading as the rooms are clean but basic - bathrooms are a little better with a good shower. Breakfast was adequate but simple buffet style fare. The hotel was fine but not good enough to return. I will definitely go back to the pantry though better than De Kas where we paid 150 euros for two!

Check in is smooth and efficient in this boutique hotel that is formed from three 19 century houses. It's a good change from many of the post war tower block hotels such as the Marriott that is also close by. Its not the cheapest in town but the location is unbeatable. A comfortable 20 mins walk from most main attractions and close to Vondelpark if you fancy a fresh air jog. Its also close to the Bond St/Fiftth Avenue of AMS with some good shopping. Only downside in my double aspect room was that you could not open the windows. When I enquired about this- the duty manager personally inspected the room whilst I was out and wrote a note to advise me- which I very much appreciated. Shower pressure is great and the bathroom and room itself was clean and well equipped with good reading lights and a box TV. The hotel is about a 10 min cab ride from the main station and it is located in a quiet street close to the centre of twon.

I would expect the hotel will want to undego some sort of renovation soon to give a little extra polish but overall it is clean comfortable and friendly hotel that has a great location.

This is a very pretty boutique hotel a block from the Rijksmuseum and easy walk to Leideseplein and Vondel Park. I thought the price was inflated, the staff pretentioius and the breakfast REALLY expensive. Comfortable stay but I this would not be my first choice in the future.

The Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken is on a nice quiet street in the Museum District, one block behind a street of luxury shops including Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, etc. The room was comfortable but there was no dresser, and very little storage space. The bathroom had double sinks and was roomy, and everything was very clean.

The staff was accommodating, and helpful with questions we had about the city. Everyone spoke English which made it much easier for us. In addition the hotel sold public transportation cards, and admissions to the museums which was very convenient.

The really big negative for us was that the internet service offered by the hotel was very expensive, and they placed a hold on our credit card of $66 USD everyday when we used the internet, even though we were only on for 30 minutes or less at a time. That hold was released at the end of our stay, and the staff said the hotel is looking for a better internet option.

We would definitely recommend this hotel.

We were very impressed with this hotel - clean, very comfortable, good reading lights and powerful showers. We booked a superior double and a standard twin. The superior double had a memory foam mattress and was larger than the standard room. The location was idea for the Van Gogh and Ritsmuseum. Trams were very close. The shops and restaurants and boat cruises were a few minutes walk away. I would recommend this hotel and would definitely come here again.
