A taxi driver found this wonderful little hotel for us, as we were booked at the Wyndham so far from everything, and decided to change hotels. The location of this little gem was wonderful, within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. The friendly staff went out of their way to make sure we had the perfect room overlooking the canal, a true boudoir with a wonderful bathroom that even heated our towels. It was immaculate and very quiet. After a hard day of walking, sightseeing, and shopping it was so nice to come back to the hotel and enjoy complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and cakes and chocolates, or a drink at the little bar with the couches. Breakfast was wonderful every morning but was 16 eurors a person a day, but we were told if we had booked online it would have been free. This hotel was one of the best parts of our anniversary trip.

Room Tip: 5th floor overlooking the canal, the rooms are beautifully decorated with great views.

Everything nice, Very personalised and stylish rooms. For couples is great hotel experience. Very nice lobby with tropical acquarium and nice furnitures. Only negative things ws the noise of walking on the wooden floor coming from room above.

On several trips to amsterdam, I found Estherea Hotel incredible. The room was spacious, (I have an upgrade to canal view -but I have three working people on my windows doing a restoration on the hotel facade). The bar and comun areas are very cozy and the service was great. Nice place to return.

my wife and I enjoyed a four day stay at this wonderful property on a stopover between Vancouver B.C. and Rome. Our son and his girlfriend who live in Prague joined us and acted as our tour guides(they know the city well) It was a great few days and we all enjoyed the hotel immensely. Hotel personnel were all friendly, efficient and helpful. The hotel itself is located right on one of the many canals in the city and we found it to be an excellent jumping off spot for our exploring. All in all, we can highly recommend this hotel. Our stay was a few months ago and we are looking for a reason to go back.

Room Tip: just be very specific about your requirements when booking as hotel staff will undoubtedly offer goo...

My mother and I stayed here for one night on our way back to the states. Check in went smooth and the frontdesk staff were friendly through out our stay. We approached them a few time with questions etc. When we returned in the evening after dinner the frontdesk asked if he could help us. Since they have hard keys (not the new key cards) you are suppose to leave them at the desk when you leave the hotel and pick it up there when you return, OOPS! We found that out after the fact. The free coffee in the morning was nice.
Over all had a good stay.

First trip to Amsterdam as part of a 10-day vacation over Thanksgiving week. Can't wait to go back!

I needed a few things in a hotel when I was booking: an elevator, as my elderly mother has trouble with stairs; preferred not to do the large chain hotels; larger rooms than is customary in Amsterdam; I still wanted that old European charm. This hotel delivered it all. The front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating, even at 9:30pm. They gave us rooms right next to each other - my husband and me in 110 and my mother in 112. These upgraded canal-view rooms had more than enough space. The bathroom was on the small side, but still plenty of room to shower and such. Our rooms had a tub/shower combo, single sink, and commode. The doors are louvered, not solid. Our bed was indded a king. Mother's was 2 twins pushed together; but she was a single so it didn't matter.

The heavy, interlined draperies help to deaden the noise from outside. But they also cover the heat registers. You may want to lift a few panels up onto tops of the wooden radiator covers to keep the heat in the room.

This hotel has been updated and modernized, but it is still an old soul at heart. The floors in the halls creak...GASP! And the walls are not super insulated from sound. If that's the type of hotel you are looking for, stay at the Hilton.

The doors are locked at 11pm. You simply buzz the intercom and the desk clerk will let you in. We never had a problem with this. The hot beverage bar and sweet treats were also a nice touch. We did not eat in the hotel's restaurant. We preferred to experience the local businesses.

It is a little pricier than many hotels in Amsterdam. But given the location, the staff, and the charm, it's so worth it.

Room Tip: Spring for the upgrade to a canal-view deluxe room. Outside noise is going to be directly related...

LOVED:
* Excellent location
* Room overlooking the canal
* Wonderful breakfast buffet
* Very nice and helpful staff
DIDN'T REALLY LOVE:
* Heating failure and no way to start it, resulting in a really chilly December night!
Hotel management made up for this, though, by offering us free breakfast and, as I mentioned earlier, Estherea breakfast is really worth a try!
* Over-decorated hotel...I am more on the minimal/contemporary design side
* Tiniest bathroom
HATED:
* 2011 - almost 2012 - and still NO FREE WI-FI for hotel guests...could you believe it?!?

Room Tip: Ask for a Canal view room!
