The hotel Estherea and the staff are wonderful. The prices are a bit steep but worth it if you want a luxurious stay in the heart of Amsterdam. The hotel is close to the Dam square, the Spui, restaurants, Kalverstraat shopping area, the Flowermarket and the peaceful Jordaan area. You can get to the busy and seedy areas easily but Estherea is removed from that scene located on the lovely Singel...the original canal circling the city dating from the 14th century. We took a canal view room and had no trouble with noise and blackout curtains ensure a good sleep. The view onto the canal was great too!
We did have difficulty parking the car we brought into town since the parking meters would not accept our various credit cards for processing. A nice hotel staff member named Steve tried several parking machines with us and in the end offered us to park in a hotel garage a street over at a rate even cheaper than the street parking. Amsterdam is not a great city for cars.
The hotel itself is beautiful but old of course so the elevator is small and the stairs a bit steep. But the decor is elegant and sophisticated, and the staff is gracious and very helpful. I've previously stayed at the Hotel Europe and the Ambassade in A'dam and the Estherea is in the same league. Highly recommended.

We checked in in the afternoon, and we were told because we didn't mention a kid is coming with us, the room is not ready, we waited for a bit for hotel to add a kid bed in the room. Wasn't long wait at all. Check in was OK. The room was not big, but has a nice bath jet tub. Room has nice beds. I love the bath tub. Separate toilet and bath is a plus. Somehow, we had a connected room with some other guests, so we can hear people talking in the neighboring room. And in the morning, while we were still sleeping, we were waken up by people moving out, and cleaning people vacuuming the neighboring room and talked without any consideration of other guests, so internally, the room were very close to each other, and noisy. The hall way is very small, and cramped. The bar and lobby were nice, but service at the bar wasn't prompt.
Overall, a nice hotel located in a nice place right by canal, and close to tram station we needed. Free drinks and nuts were nice, no cocktail though.

This is a lovely hotel situated on the Singel Canal. Location is perfect with lots of restaurants very close by. Most sights are within easy walking distance, buses stop nearby so an easy journey to/from station. The hotel is very welcoming with complimentary soft drinks and snacks available throughout the day in Reception. There was a very good choice at breakfast, but the breakfast room did get a little congested sometimes. Bedrooms are very comfortable and well appointed. We had a courtyard facing room which was very quiet but if you want a view of the canal it might be worth paying the extra charge. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Courtyard view room was very comfortable and very quiet, but pay the extra if you want a canal view.

Lovely hotel. Our room was beautifully decorated and spacious. Room was clean and comfortable. Our room faced was in the back off the main street, We did not have an issue with noise.

The staff is friendly and helpful. We loved the lobby and common rooms. We enjoyed our evening cocktails at the bar.

We highly recommend this hotel.

The location of this hotel is great. If you're in decent shape and not burdened with a lot of luggage, it is an easy walk from Centraal Station to Hotel Estherea. It's also easy to get to a lot of nice shops and places to eat from this location. It's less than a mile to Dam Square. While the decor of the rooms is a tad bit garish in my opinion, the bathroom was excellent. Do yourself a favor and skip the breakfast. At 18 Euros, it is definitely overpriced for the quality of what's prepared. The front desk staff was professional and nice. The personnel working the bar area not as attentive. All in all, this is a very nice hotel and you'd not be making a mistake if you chose to stay here.

We stayed 4 nights in October 2012. This was the first hotel I browsed on the web and I had such a good impression then that I booked it right away. My instinct prooved me right!

The hotel is luxurious, and grand in every way. Our deluxe room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable, with a king bed, large sofa, and little table in addition to the desk. The bathroom was ample and impeccable. We did not have a canal view, but all the better because our corner room was quiet and far from the elevator.

Staff always greeted us with a smile and was very helpful. They had taken note of my email making reference to our wedding aniversary and had left us a lovely gift in our room upon arrival. Thanks for such nice token!

We enjoyed having coffee/tea (there is a 24/7 complimentary coffee/tea machine in the lobby) every night while observing the fantastic acquarium in the lobby. Everything is of superb quality, tidy and clean.
Location is excellent: facing Singel Canal -a guarantee of quietness - but having everything around the corner on Spuistraat - restaurants, bars, coffeeshops. Shopping area is about 3 or 4 blocks away.
We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but instead had a coffe and croisant at Café Hoppe, a top 10, a couple of blocks away.
Amsterdam is great for walking (or riding!). Watch out for intense bike traffic when crossing the street! We enjoyed the museums and the canals - a cruise is a must.
We also hopped on a train and visited The Hague, which is only 50 minutes away. It is a beautiful city, quieter than Amsterdam.
Overall, our stay in Netherlands was amazing! I'd love to come back and definitely would choose Estherea over and over again.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a deluxe room if possible!
