This lovely four star hotel is worth the splurge. Of course for American travelers it seems to get more expensive by the day due to the value of the dollar. The staff was so very gracious and helpful. It was beautiful and on a lovely street. I would highly recommend this hotel to the discerning traveler. Having travelled to Europe many times myself, I would return to the Hotel Estherea the next time I am in Amsterdam.

The Estherea deserves all the kudos it's received on this site. I visited for four nights with my mom in late April 2009. You can't find a better location for being central in the city yet feeling like you have a quiet, beautiful canal all to yourself. There is a divine chocolate store about three blocks north named Puccini that's not to be missed. You can easily walk to the train station in 15-20 minutes for excursions out of town. The staff is friendly enough but not the highlight of the hotel. What is really cool and special about this hotel is the lobby and public space on the ground floor. I usually am never enticed to spend any time in such spaces, but the spaces are beautifully lit and furnished with lovely, warm items that make you want to hang out with a (free) cup of hot chocolate while you figure out your plans for the day, check your map, etc. Our room was spacious enough, and the place was always quiet at night The hotel is a little on the pricey side but really worth the splurge...all in all, it's pretty terrific.

What a lovely and welcoming hotel, filled with amenities, yet it feels old-fashioned and cozy, too. Very comfortable bed, lovely room. Helpful staff, centrally located - you can walk everywhere from here, and if you'd rather ride, bike rental is just down the street. We skipped the breakfast (extra, and while it looked good, didn't seem a good value) and walked to the next corner and dined well at "Broodje Bert"

This beautiful hotel located in the middle of Amsterdam is a treat of a place to stay. Centraly located near Dam Square and the Anne Frank House, there are many exceptional restaurants nearby. The staff is outstanding. The decor beautiful and stately. Highly recommended!

Good points: Nice entrance, lounge and reading room area. Quite central but quiet location. Whole hotel was very clean.

Bad points: Room size was about average for Amsterdam but small by international standards. It felt very cramped though due to the furnishing. I cut my head open on an ornate metal light fitting in the centre of our room hanging at a dangerous 5'6" (1.67m)!

Staff were efficient but not friendly; this could be due to staffing levels which were low. There was a queue at the reception desk everytime I walked past it.

They charged 16 euro for breakfast despite stating 14 euro on their website and in a confirmation email. This is expensive compared to other hotels and restaurants in the area.

Overall I would say that if they hung their lights a bit higher and got rid of some of the furniture in the small rooms this would be a good 3 star hotel. It does not have the facilities or level of service I would expect from a 4 star.

Just returned from Amsterdam last month and stayed Hotel Estherea ~ deluxe double canal view room. On Singel canal just 5-10 walk to Dam Square.

I wired them before arriving and asked if they could order some flowers for the room. I gave them a 75 euro budget. They emailed back and said could get some tulips for 30 euro. Much to my surprise, there were 6 full tulip arrangements when we arrived. They actually walked down to floating flower market and purchased the flowers.

Buy the breakfast buffet ~ good value.

Stayed here with my husband, parents and brother for the weekend. Located on a quiet canal, yet an easy walk to many restaurants and attractions. Gorgeous lobby with complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and snacks. And don't miss the lemon/mint infused water in the lobby bar. Each room is decorated differently making each one a unique experience. Breakfast was just okay. Kind of pricey for what you get. Staff very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back if I am ever in Amsterdam again!
