My second stay here; the hotel has been refurbished since I last visited and is even better. We were not lucky enough to have a canal view room but ours was comfortable and attractive.

The hotel has a cosy bar, pleasant breakfast room and library area. Although there is no restaurant for evening dining there are dozens of bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk.

All the attractions of Amsterdam are easily accessible, but despite this the hotel is very peaceful and relaxing.

The staff are friendly and professional.

All in all a great value hotel

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at the Hotel Estherea in Amsterdam. We found the hotel lavishly decorated with warm and welcoming staff. Although our hotel room was quite compact it had a beautiful view of the canal and surrounding area and was tastefully decorated. The hotel is situated close to many of the popular tourist areas of Amsterdam but a good distance from the more seedy areas so guests never feel uneasy or unsafe. All in all we had a fantastic time and would definitely choose to stay here again.

I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. We stayed for 4 days on recommendation and we were not disappointed.
The staff were welcoming, the hotel was charming, the rooms beautiful (some with great canal views) and all within walking distance of Dam Square.
If you are thinking of visiting Amsterdam please do not look anywhere else!

Both my wife and i spent my 40th birthday in amsterdam recently and we chose to stay at the hotel estherea. This hotel is fantastic for couples and familys, it's no good for back packers or people on a budget as it's quite expensive. But if your looking for luxury at an affordable price, then you need look no further than this wonderful establishment. So if your planning a trip to the dam with your wife or girlfriend and choose to stay anywhere other than here, your making a big mistake! Go, be happy, n-joy!

We stayed at The Estherea for 6 nights in April 2005. The best thing about the hotel is its location, but that's not to say that it is the only good thing about it. But first things first.

Adjoining the Spui, in the inner part of the Western Canal Belt on the Singel, near the Jordaan, near the Beginhof, with many excellent restaurants, bars, coffee shops, shopping areas and major tram access all within very close walking distance, it is probably as well located a hotel as there is in Amsterdam. It is amazing that this place can maintain relative quiet but it does.

The rooms are small, but clean, with very nice bathrooms. The first room we were taken to was not exactly to our liking (though we would have been fine had they not been willing to let us change) but the staff was very nice and made a room change to a room that was more to our liking with little effort. Both rooms had canal views. They offer free coffee, tea and hot chocolate (available 24/7), they have a nice bar and a breakfast room with a typical dutch buffet breakfast (we didn't eat there -- we chose to eat breakfast at several nearby places that gave a much better slice of local experience). The hotel has apparently been owned by the same family for a long time, and it is pretty obvious -- much of the staff seemed related to one another. We were very happy there, more for the location than the rooms themselves, but there were nice amenities, nice rooms and excellent value for the money (and the location is definitely superior to many far more expensive and only marginally nicer hotels). At the end of 6 nights, we weren't sick of the place, which also says something.

A word to those who care about such things. The Estherea is not cannibas friendly -- they politely but firmly make it clear that cannibas smoking is not allowed in the hotel. However, being within a block of Tweed Kamer, one of the most interesting and eclectic coffee shops in Amsterdam, and several others as well, it really didn't matter. Cheers!
