“Nice cosy spacious room in the heart of Amsterdam- Don't forget there is City Tax to pay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

I stayed here for Valentines with my partner back in Feb 2012. Managed to get a great deal on this hotel for less than half the stated price through booking.com. It's such a lovely grand hotel keeping all it's character from when it was first built but with a modern twist. Our room was large and spacious but cosy at the same time with a comfy queen size bed. Our balcony was huge looking onto Rembrandt Square. If you are a light sleeper, I recommend you ask for a room at the back of the hotel due to some noise from the square. It didn't bother me though and hey it's Amsterdam, of course it's going to be a bit noisy!

You have a choice of meals for room service if you want it (however we didn't order any as remember noticing if you ordered breakfast up to your room, it was something like €19 per person!). There was a free of charge pillow menu though and I remember we took full advantage of that haha, so good to choose the right pillow for you though!

The hotel is in a great location and we managed to walk everywhere we wanted to go without using public transport. (Apart from when leaving and going to the airport, we needed to catch a train & a taxi but both are quite cheap). If I visit Amsterdam again, I will definitely use this hotel as it is in such a great location and made our stay even more enjoyable. I recommend everyone use this hotel, it has everything you need whilst being in Amsterdam.

Oh p.s the hotel charges you city tax for each day you are in Amsterdam so don't be alarmed when they ask, every hotel in Amsterdam does it. Cost me around €20 for four days.

Room Tip: Quite noisy on front of hotel facing Rembrandt square.

Classic older hotel overlooking Rembrandtplein park. Outdoor cafes surround the park on 3 sides. Large Starbucks cafe 1/2 block from hotel. 20 minute walk from Central Train Station. Canal boats and tram stops are 1-2 blocks away. 20 minute walk to Rjiksmuseum and Niew Kirk, and 15 min. walk to Heineken Experience. 5 minutes to floating flower market. Rooms are small but typical of Europe, and hotel elevator is a bit slow. Breakfasts are very good and restaurant has gorgeous stained glass and very good food.

Room Tip: quieter room are on the back of the hotel, while front rooms overlook the park and can be noisy

We had to sidle past the end of our bed to get to the bathroom. Apart from this the hotel was fine; the location is excellent and the staff are friendly and efficient. The bar closed at 10.30 the evening we arrived which was irritating as we had to go elsewhere to get something to eat and a drink.

I had booked a room well in advance through Booking.com. Upon arrival, the receptionist advised that the only double room available, Room 118, was subject to some noise from a cafe and that there had been complaints. Be warned. The cafe is actually a nightclub. On our first night, a Thursday, the noise was intolerable; enough to rattle the windows. It went on non-stop until 3 am. To be fair, we were given an alternative room for the following two nights of our stay but the hotel knows how bad the problem is and this room should not be made available. I have to say that, quite apart from the noise, it is a small, dowdy, tired looking room. The cheap, plastic shower fitting was coming away from the wall and would not support the shower head. So, unless you intend to stay out most of the night, comed back in a drunken stupor or both, make it clear when you book that Room 118 will not be acceptable. Rooms at the back are fine.

Room Tip: Don't touch Room 118 with a bargepole.

We had a terrific 4 night stay. The location of this hotel is superb, we walked everywhere and did not use public transportation once. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our room was big and very clean and the bathroom was modern and nice. I do have to note that there is a coffee shop right next to the hotel. You can't really sleep with the window open as the square is quite noisy until late and you will have "whiffs of Amsterdam" coming into your room. There are many restaurants and cafes around, perfect for dinners and breakfast nearby.

The hotel is in a very good location which is about in the middle of the central area of Amsterdam. it is an easy tram ride from the Centraal (Central) Station and is on a crossroads of 3 routes and not far from a number of others. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops in very easy reach. The hotel facilities are good and there is a restaurant/bar attached if you wish to eat in. It has a relatively inexpensive menu.
It is a complaint that I have for other hotels and that is the size of the bathroom for single rooms. The shower area is excellent and provides a good shower, but there is very little room between the basin and the wall which makes bending over the sink almost impossible. Also, the toilet is too close to the door and the only way to sit down is with the door open (I am just under 5 feet 11inches (1.83m) tall).

Loved this hotel, stylish and clean with the most pleasant and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. We were only there for one night but will definitely stay here again when I next visit Amsterdam.
