In two separate occasions on the first floor and on the fifth floor we had a mouse visit. It seems a normal occurence in this hotel. If it happens they offer you a breakfast for free. You would expect more cleanliness in a four star hotel

This was our first trip to Amsterdam and we found our experience at the Memphis to be very nice! For a European hotel, our room was more than adequate. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The location was great for either walking to major tourist sties and parks, or for catching the tram to the places outside of walking distance. The included breakfast was plentiful and convenient, however if you're looking for variety, you won't find it here.

If you planning a trip to Amsterdam, I would recommend this hotel.

Hotel obviously recently refurbished. Very comfortable beds with double-glazed windows.(on busy street). Within walking distance of the museums and on the tram line. Friendly staff and nice breakfast.

One word- MICE!!!!!
There were mice in 2 rooms- we asked to be moved to another room only to find another mouse crawling across our sheets!!! needless to say we ran out of the room and checked out ASAP, only to be asked by our taxi driver how the stay was, to which we told him about the mice- his reply, after a big belly laugh, "this hotel is known for having mice- its an old building and needs to be torn-down in order to remove them- they are all in the walls and everywhere!!" Note to self- DO NOT stay in any lodgings that are not new buildings in Amsterdam- such a lovely city and its a shame the old buildings are infested by them!

We checked into the Memphis hotel for three nights through a travel package, and the hotel is of high standard. The receptionist was friendly during check-in, the rooms were clean, and the hotel location is in the museum quarter close to the park (good for visiting the local museums, but far to walk from the central train station and the more vibrant districts).

For those who are not keen on spending money in restaurants, there is a supermarket around the corner from the hotel.

Unfortunately the fridge in our hotel room did not work upon our arrival. When we informed a member of staff about this, they were rather dismissive and said it was to be expected from products made in China, and only showed up at our room door to take a look an hour later. Bizarrely enough, all they did was take the fridge unit and flipped it upside down for a minute, before putting it back in its original position and claiming that it was fixed. (This member of staff then made small-talk with us, which basically turned into a hint for a tip! It was rather uncomfortable) Unsurprisingly, the fridge remained broken up until we left.

A lovely hotel about a ten-minute walk from the museums or a tram ride away from everything. Small, clean and friendly with a nice breakfast. It's in a lovely residential area of Amsterdam not far from Museumplein.

Room Tip: away from the street
