“Brilliant location”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

February Half Term, so I took my 11 year old grand-daughter for a short break holiday. What a brilliant choice. This hotel is in a perfect location, close to Dam Square, and has lots of character. Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful. Hotel breakfast buffet had plenty of choice. Waffles and pancakes were popular. Good coffee.
We walked from the station but mostly used the Trams as the stop was outside the hotel. Amsterdam has some great attractions for children. Don`t miss NEMO, the science museum for all ages. We were there for 5 hours. Amazing place. The canal boat ride was interesting but one hour was enough. The bus tour was OK but only a little information on each venue in lots of different languages.
Rijks Museum was absolutely amazing and hotel concierge booked the highlights tour. Really good idea. You are in a small group, you get to the front of the crowds (especially children)and the informative commentary means you see things that others might miss. After it`s 10 year renovation this museum has the WOW factor. Also worth a visit for adults or sophisticated 11 year olds was" the Eye" This brand new masterpiece of architecture is home to cinema entertainment and a stunning restaurant.

Room Tip: Our room had a view of a brick wall, although there was a pretty windmill painted on it. We didn`t...

The hotel is an easy 10 minute stroll from the Central Rail Station and very easy to find. Very well located for most major attractions. We were warmly welcomed at check in and provided with a city map and lots of information about what to see and do. Our room, whilst fairly small and lacking a view, was perfectly adequate and comfortable. It was equipped with a safe, TV, small fridge, tea & coffee facilities and a wall mounted hairdryer in the bathroom, together with complimentary toiletries. We didn't eat in the hotel as we did think it seemed rather expensive, particularly breakfast at 22EU. There are plenty of smaller cafes nearby which serve English breakfasts, omelettes, scrambled eggs etc for about 5 to 10 Euros. The only thing with these was that they tend not to open til 10 (maybe in summer they open earlier) However, there were pastry shops nearby so you could always grab a croissant or waffle instead.

Drinking in Amsterdam is also a somewhat expensive passtime; a pint of beer costs around 4.50 - 6.50 EU but beer and wine are much cheaper in the larger supermarkets (try Haarlemmer, the main road running parallel with Central station - a couple of large, well priced supermarkets on there) You can always have a couple of drinks in your room before venturing out for the evening.

Eating in cafes and restaurants we found to be much more reasonable and you really are spoilt for choice.

Overall, a very pleasant stay. A comfortable and well equipped hotel in a great location with very friendly and helpful staff. I hope we will be back soon.

Stayed here on a city break with my wife. It is located just to the rear of Dam Square, so you can walk to it from the station in 10 minutes. Checking in was a slow process and the food was pretty expensive. Eating out is reasonably priced and stacks of restaurants within 5 mins walk.
Hotel was spotless, the staff were helpful and spoke perfect English
Anne Franks and a canal tour are a must, plenty to see and do at nights and all within walking distance. When walking keep your eyes peeled otherwise you,ll get wiped out by a bike, as they come at you from all angles

Very pleasantly surprised, especially considering the reasonable price to stay here. Welcoming staff, excellent location to explore Amsterdam, stunning bodega/bar and very clean surroundings! Nice little personal touch for valentines day of sweets on the pillow ❤️ Will stay again, just sorry we didn't make more of the bar and try the food

Old and traditional, the rooms were a bit small but very comfortable. Mostly the service was excellent although they did try to charge me for 3 breakfasts I didn't have, don't sign the breakfast ticket on arrival, insist you do it daily, that said it was sorted out promptly, all in all well worth it

Room Tip: be aware there is no car parking and this can cost upto €50 per night to overcone but it's an ea...

Stayed here for a weekend 8th Feb - 10th Feb 14. Staff were very friendly and helpful we couldn't fault them. The guest areas are good and worthy of the 4 star but our room was at best 3 star. Saying that, it was clean but just a bit dated and small. Perfectly okay for a few nights after all it is only a base. What a great location just off the Dam Square within a couple of minutes walk from shops, cafes, bars and the tram stop is right outside. We done all the main attractions in central Amsterdam on foot.
