“chilled and relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

Location is excellent, away from the hustle and bustle but within a short walk of the main shopping streets and Dam Square. There is a canal outside with a hop on hop off boat service for sightseeing and multiple tram routes within 100mtrs. A number 1 tram will take you to and from Centraal station. The service was polite and courteous and I found the American bar relaxing. on a negative point the rooms are a little on the small side (330 anyway) and there were stains on the carpet. The shower was not very powerful. However the rest was clean and well appointed.
The common areas were very clean and the staff were very helpful.A nice hotel which I would stay at again but in a different room

Well if service is everything then there is nothing left to comment on. The reception staff and the concierge were warm and welcoming and went out of their way to please. However, the room was very comfortable and we especially appreciated the large comfortable bed and the two lounge chairs. The icing on the cake was the view over the river from our balcony.

Pros: Location - brilliant for getting anywhere in the city. Friendly staff. Soft fluffy towels. Room ok, but no view. Free wifi. Very clean.
Cons: Mattress should have been replaced about 5-years ago (saggy, roll into the middle, lumpy and uncomfortable). Noisy (think we were positioned beneath the pipes and got to know the neighbours toilet habits and bathing habits very well during our two nights). Poor excuse for a shower. Reception too busy to cope with the number of visitors.

The hotel is located in a great location in Amsterdam. We were greeting well by the front staff and they held our luggage until our room was ready. We asked them to e mail us when it was ready and they did do so at 2:00. I would recommend that you get a higher room if possible. We were on four floor and it was very nice. The room was clean and large for a European room. The bathroom was a very nice size, and we had a nice little balcony that just fit two chairs. The bed was very comfortable. We used the concierge service to help us set up a trip to Keufenhof to see the tulips. He was very good giving us good advice and instructions. The only negative I would have is that we did do the buffet breakfast one morning. While I thought the food was ok, it was a little over priced ... 19 euro a piece. The issue I had with the buffet was that they had people working there, but no one came to clear our plates or to get us coffee or water. We had to do that all on our own. Which I understand it is a buffet, but at 19 euro I think they could have had a little better service. All in all I would recommend this hotel, the check out was quick and easy. If you find you way to Amsterdam this is a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Recommend a higher room.

Such a great hotel. Located within a pleasant area of Amsterdam with good connections to all parts of city. Amazed with room 604. Clearly family room of sorts but was very good size. Bathroom adequate. Views towards rear overlooking rooftops and skyline of Amsterdam. Pleased to have free use of safe. Excellent concierge, reception and porter service. We did not dine in hotel unable to comment on menus.

A city tax is payable and check final bill as was charged for vodka at €8.50 which we did not have. Seemed to have been refunded later.

Location very good close to theatres and many restaurants and cafes. Good shopping and not too far from tourist sites and flower market. Boat trips available outside hotel but I would advise going elsewhere. The Lovers company outside hotel were good for hop on hop off but got very busy. We had a more relaxing trip prior.

Transportation easy to use and efficient. We are used to London fares so reasonable day ticket on trams, buses etc €7.50. For ease of use we boarded Connexion shuttle service from Schipol. Very efficient and kept to time schedules.

All in all very pleasant stay and would recommend to family and friends. Just mind the kamikaze bikes!

Room Tip: Room number 604 for space and peace and quiet

Just spent three nights at this very comfortable hotel. We arrived early hoping to leave our bags until later in the day and received a warm welcome from the young man on reception who said of course we could leave our bags but first he would check to see if our room was ready - it was - so we had access to our room a few hours early.
I had read reviews which suggested the rooms were small, so I had booked a junior suite. This was indeed spacious - enormous bed, small table and chairs in the main room, and then another table and chairs and a desk around the corner with three windows overlooking the canal - a delightful spot to sit and enjoy the view whilst drinking coffee from the nespresso machine. There was also a quirky spiral staircase in the bedroom which was quite a feature but unfortunately didn't lead anywhere! The ensuite was pretty small, but adequate.
All the staff we came into contact with - housekeeping, reception, concierge - were all friendly and helpful.
The hotel is very well situated. There is a canal boat stop right outside, bus stops (including the 197 which goes to the airport - 5 euros - 35/40 mins), and tram stops. We actually spent most of our time walking and again the hotel was a great base for this - it is easy to walk to many of the major museums and lots of restaurants, or further afield to other districts.
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 517 on the 5th floor was spacious and comfortable

Dear Guest, Thank you for your stay, review and recommendation. The spiral staircase in your room leads to the famous clock tower. However, for safety reasons, the clock tower can not be accessed. We hope to see you again soon! With best regards,

Was on a business trip and reached the hotel much earlier than their check-in time. The receptionist was extremely polite and ensured that I was seated comfortably in the business lounge and had my room ready in an hour. Rooms are old but clean and had no discomfort at all. Location can't be any better and was lucky to have a room facing the canal. The Leidseplein is just a whisper away with a tremendous variety of cuisine. I used the laundry services in the hotel and my clothes were delivered bang on time. Will definitely stay here again - business or personal visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal facing one
