“really enjoyed our stay”
Reviewed 5 September 2012

We stayed two nights at the Holiday Inn and I must say we have had a great time! The room was spacious and clean and the beds really comfortable. As the purpose of our stay was to explore Amsterdam, the location of the hotel is very convenient, Just a 15 minute tram ride(which was perfect as a first tour) to take you to the city centre. We will certainly return to this hotel.

Room Tip: I became a member of priority club upon arrival and got a free late check out!

Very convenient location near public transport to centre. Clean room and generous breakfast. Although rude group of Italians the restaurant staff stayed very friendly and professional.

Compliments on outstanding help with getting an appointment with a dentist by duty manager. Looking forward to my next stay in December.

Just an average hotel in an area of town that is a mix of commercial and residential but lacks any good restaurant choices or tourist sites.

There Is a train station nearby that can give you good access to the rest of Amsterdam.

A supermarket is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel (just past the train station)

Good running or walking in a nearby park and the Amstel River.

Arriving to the hotel we immediately noticed, that that is quite a worn building and it has this unattractive look. Parking the car slammed a price of 25 EUR in our face. Ouch...

Checkin was fast and friendly and we rented a trolly cart for our luggage (I do not mind doing it alone). Arriving at the room it was clear, that this is a bit worn out hotel. Bathroom was really boring plane white ceramics that screamed for some upgrade. TV was quite small but with plenty of channels. Ice machine on our floor was broken with a notice (for all 4 days). I was also wondering how there is no in room safe in a 4* hotel?

The next day we went to the breakfast at 10:00 (they serve breakfast to 10:30) and found place quickly, but quite some things were already missing. Coffee machine (WMF) was broken...

We bought a 24h ticket for public transport for 7.5EUR at the reception and went to the very close RAI station (really very close). So access is really good.

Then the next day shock with breakfast. Coffee machine was being repaired (so again no "good" coffee), out of milk, out of most of cheese, out of Chocolate spread for kids, some stuff was in the juice and water (and out of most juices), out of tables, most of the bread was missing...It was VERY HECTIC. Stuff was clearly already being bothered by most of guest about it. We had enough of it and complained to the manager. She was immediately available and listened to our complains and had a look at the pictures of this mess which I took. I can say that she did really take care of the problems and went a great length to let us know that they are really sorry for this.

Th next day everything was really different, everything was plenty, coffee machine was finally working and tables were available. So I can say at least they did acknowledge their problems and really try to fix them up.

Since walk-in rate for this hotel is amazingly 320EUR (WoW!) + 25EUR/day parking + Internet 20EUR/day (if I am not mistaken) this is somehow not what somebody would expect for such amount of money (not that we paid so much, but that is the rate they have written in reception). I do not know how the prices for other hotels in Amsterdam are (I heard they are expensive) but I would expect much more from 4* hotel (especially if I compare if to same price 5* Hotels in Stuttgart, Munchen we visited a couple of days before).

Located at RAI, this hotel is mainly suited to those business travellers who come here to attend the nearby conference, exhibition complex . It is only 2 train stops from Schipol airport and a walking distance from the Rai train station. We stayed with family for 3 nights on our way back from Norway. The rooms were small and since we knew about it in advance, we were prepared for the lack of space. The reception staff was courteous and efficient in checking us in and also friendly . They were knowledgeable on the tourism and travel aspect and willing to give good tips on what to do. The Vermont restaurant served a scrumptious breakfast and also has a decent menu for other meals. For a visitor with family, who wants to spend most of the time in the heart of Amstedam, there is a direct tram service terminus next to the train station. This is the only drawback if one wishes to enjoy the late evenings in the main city as commuting could hit your pockets and take nearly 25 minutes. Unfortunately there are no restaurants, fast food joints close by ,so one gets a bit stuck on these counts. The restaurant and room service staff were welcoming and friendly although one noticed that the cereals were kept on the table in jars which looked broken!. Was a bit surprised that the rooms did not have an ironing board. Bathrooms are clean and modern .Replinshment of tea bags etc was not done ,so too with the soap. All tour operators pick up customers from the hotel. Tv Chanel's have limited variety on the free channels and choice for kids is also minimal.

From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed ourselves. We chose this hotel as it was a little cheaper than some of the other places we had looked at, however when we arrived and discovered it was a little way out of the centre of Amsterdam, we realised why it was that bit cheaper. This did not put us off as there was a tram stop 2 minutes walk from the hotel and Amsterdam RAI train station, 3 minutes walk. The staff were extremely helpful, in particular Andjelina, who always seemed to be on hand when we needed directions, translation or even painkillers! Breakfast was the usual buffet style but was fresh and hot and plenty of choice. Bedroom was clean and tidy, comfy bed and a choice of pillows! Overall a delightful experience and we will definitely go back again.
