It's Marriott so:

Friendly, efficient service- check
Scrupulously clean - check
Quiet rooms with comfortable beds - check
excellent Wifi - check check check

But also,
Great free breakfast in the executive lounge hot eggs, bacon, sausage, lots of cold cuts and cheeses, disappointing baked goods and fantastic coffee machine that makes you an instant latte. Also appetizers and free drinks in the evening and desserts after 7:30. Coffee, tea, etc. always available

Very close to major sites - the museums, shops and restaurants. Lively nightlife area, but very safe. Hop on hop off canal boat stop right across the street and the tram, but very easy to walk everywhere.

We are gold level Marriott members and used points to stay here.

Room Tip: Even with our window open, street noise did not bother us on 8th floor. Ask for a view of the plaza.

This property in an old building retrofit to house a hotel is in easy walking distance of the Central train station and metro, so it is easy to reach from the airport taking the commuter train to Amsterdam CS and then a 5 min. walk to the hotel. The design and décor of the hotel is quite interesting. It is also close to many districts for different walks and site seeing.

Room was very well appointed and the executive lounge was good but not great. The breakfast in the morning was horrible - one of the worst I have seen anywhere for quality of food and variety. The afternoon / evening food and drink is much better. The lounge staff were quite stiff and business like, but they warmed up once you started talking to them.

In spite of the breakfast deficiency, I would recommend this hotel for business or pleasure use for its great location, good décor and cheerful front desk.

I'm a Marriott Rewards guy and I live in Germany, I've stayed in lots of Marriotts around the world and the Amsterdam Marriott is one of the very best! It is certainly one of my two favorites in Europe (the others are in Copenhagen and Cologne). Whether for business or pleasure, you will not find a better experience in Amsterdam.

Highly Recommended +++++

Please note that the following review was first sent to Marriott directly and they are dealing with the annoyances and concerns I had. Spent three nights( two separate stays). Great location, fantastic friendly staff, room 1143 was the best, with a great view and the ground floor executive lounge was unparallelled in efficiency. Room 841 also nice room but major shower drainage issues( despite several requests to fix) and some minor annoying wifi connection - although help desk extremely competent and able to actually help. Just frustrating to keep calling. Overall - think its a great place to stay but the jist of this friendly comment/ recommendation from a loyal Marriott platinum member is:
1) the shower heads in both rooms are not what ive come to expect from marriott( and i love Marriott as you can tell from my profile ). They don't stay in position because they are hand held by design , don't have the right water pressure and even if they do, They are so close to the end of the cubicle that its awkward/ difficult/ frustrating to use - you should get your money back from the designer. I stayed at a Novotel in Eindhoven and they don't have half the stuff that you have but they certainly have a great shower, a clean room and the same great Dutch hospitality at a fraction of the price.
2) my major concern for the entire hotel- the water temperature is set to SCALD! As a surgeon who takes care of burns in kids , i worry that you are setting yourself up for accidents with all the kids in the place. I don't think the Dutch have the same restrictions that we have in some states regarding water heater temperature settings but it seems like an easy problem to fix. Please adjust the dial on the water heaters.
I love Marriott and I loved Amsterdam. I know I will go back. I would definitely stay here again especially if traveling with family and a physically challenged child AND if they can rectify some of the stuff above.

The Marriott Amsterdam is in a great location, within walking distance of the major shopping and restaurant area, the canal, the Ryksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum. The hotel itself is nothing special. The rooms are small, the internet is extra (when it is working), and the amenities OK. The breakfast buffet is great, but not worth 27 euros. If you can get a package, take it.

Great staff, great location. Upscale hotel compared to typical US Marriott's. Executive lounge is top shelf. Pets are allowed for a non-refundable cleaning fee.
The Blue Boat Canal Tour stop is just across the street, I highly recomend as a quick way to explore the city. The VanGogh Museum, Paulus Potterstraat 7, 1071 CX Amsterdam, Netherlands, is a short walk away as well is the High Fashion Shopping street of P.C. Hooftstraat.
There are several parks close by for a stroll or a jog.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Stadhouderskade, the best view.

As it was expected, though this hotel is not new at all, this is 100% Marriott.
Good food, friendly staff, not so nice price, but OK. Wifi is not free in the rooms, but price is acceptable.

The main plus is the location - in the entrance to the old city, near channel bank, where you can take a boat for city site-seeings.
Rooms are well renovated and atmosphere of old hotel (second half of 20th century) supports the good feelings from there. Not so far away from the airport.

I am satisfied that Marriott stay on its level as expected.
