“Great choice!”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

Our stay at this Marriott was very good. Most significantly, the staff was superb - everyone from check-in, to the concierge, to the bell staff. They made all the difference to our stay. Concierge was especially helpful setting us up with tickets to museums and various tours that we took. The hotel's location is also excellent - a walk away from the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum as well as the stop for he Hop off, Hop On bus network. Moreoever, there are three different streetcars that can take visitors to Centraal Station. The rooms are comfortable and clean. I would stay there in the future.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher floors give you a good view of the city.

From the time we arrived from our flight from the US to coming back after a 12 day cruise, everything was perfect. When we arrived at 10:00 AM, a room was ready on the 8th floor facing the city. The room was large, clean, the beds comfy and perfectly quiet. We stayed for 2 1/2 days before the cruise and then returned after the cruise, deposited our luggage with the concierge (prior approval), did some last minute shopping in the Leidseplein, had a wonderful lunch at the Pancake Restaurant across from the Marriott before Kyra called a cab for our 17:00 flight.

I cannot say enough about the service of all the staff. It is a very busy, popular hotel with cruise passengers, airline personnel and general tourists, but Kyra and others were able to keep their cool friendly demeanor at all times. She is a "keeper"; awesome lady!

One of our friends traveling with us forgot to take his items out of the safe, including their passports and a very very large amount of cash. This was discovered as we tried to board the Celebrity. A supervisor from Celebrity and someone in Marriott management worked out a plan for our friend to take a taxi back to the hotel; papers were signed, and he was back 30 minutes before departure with documents and cash in hand! Awesome cooperation from all.

We found the quiet location perfect for us; trams were used by some in our party, but by and large we walked to all our destinations.

I cannot help but comment on the previous poster. Why would someone leave their passport, money, IPad, etc. unattended in this day and age? Passports, credit cards, and money should be stowed in a compartment under clothing that are sold worldwide to prevent just this from happening. And, to say a staff member might have been involved; shame! Couldn't a guest who had access to the room be the culprit?

Room Tip: Our 8th floor room facing Leidsplein was very quiet!

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel prior to joining a river cruise. The hotel was clean. The location is excellent for walking to Van Gogh, red Light District, Flower Market etc. Reception staff and concierge very friendly. Included buffet breakfast nice. The bed was so comfortable, slept like a baby.
We enjoyed our stay here.

We stayed in the Amsterdam Marriott for 5 nights in August 2014 and were happy with the accommodation and amenities. The location is excellent, being especially convenient for the Rijksmuseum, Vondelpark and Van Gogh Museum. Just across the road (assuming you aren't flattened by a cyclist/moped/car/tram getting there) there is a canal "bus" stop which offers a really nice way of getting to see this beautiful city.
Inside the hotel the decor is a little outdated (marble, glitz, patterned carpets) but it is all very clean and the staff are calmly efficient and genuinely friendly. Breakfast caters for pretty much any and every dietary preference, and is served until quite late (11:00, I think it was), so you can sit and plan your day's sightseeing without feeling unduly rushed. The only minor criticism I would make is that wifi is free of charge only in the hotel lobby; in your room you will either have to rely on a 3G signal or pay extra to connect to the Marriott's domestic server. Given that so many restaurants and cafes in the city offer free wifi as a matter of course this seems a bit mean, but at least you can get your Facebook fix over lunch or dinner while you're out and about. Apart from that, our room was quiet, the air conditioning worked properly, and the immense bed was very restful after trundling round the various museums, galleries and shops. I'd go back next week!

I stayed in this hotel from 17 august to 26 august.
The hotel is well located but it is a little bit old and tacky.
My experience with the hotel was not a good one.
I and my friend were stolen inside the Executive Lounge during the breakfast. I lost goods and money in the amount of 1.600 euros (ipad, camera, money, credit cards etc) and my friend lost a similar amount. The Executive Lounge is a restricted space and you just go in using a card. For this reason I suspect that someone from the hotel crew collaborated with the thief. The security camera captured the thief leaving the hotel with my backpack and with the hand bag of my partner.
The hotel didn't assume any responsability for the incident and refused to indemnify us against any losses. According to the hotel General Manager all places in the hotel are considered (sic) public places, even the rooms rented to the guests. So, they never indemnify against losses in these cases.
Besides the material losses, all my photos and my passaport were lost and I spent 2 days (out of 9 days of vacation) trying to get a new passport in Roterdam and registering the case in the police station.
At the end, in the checkout, I felt myself as if I were paying the Marriott Hotel to be stolen by them, once in my opinion the hotel was at least partly responsible for the incident.

Room Tip: I stayed at the room 517 and my friend stayed at the room 500. The room 500 was a little bit larger...

great location, you can basically walk everywhere from there. The staff was very friendly at check-in and check-out and also in between. The lobby somehow felt like an airport lobby, super busy the whole time but impressive to see how friendly and calm the receptionists and concierges handled everything perfectly. The rooms were clean and we had a great view on the city. The only disappointment was the wifi. It was so slow and kept breaking up all the time. All in all, we had a great time!

Stayed at this hotel last weekend and the most significant plus is the hotel's location. Everything is within walking distance and importantly the public bus service to and from the airport (bus no. 197) stops outside the hotel. This service leaves every 10 minutes and takes approx 30-40 minutes at a cost of only 5 euros each (a taxi is approx 40 euros each way).

The Hotel itself is modern, clean and comfortable. The rooms are typical Marriott - well appointed though a bit small. The bed, as ever, is very comfortable.

We tried the hotel's Mid-Town grill which was disappointing as they did not serve as requested. My wifes lamb chops, ordered medium well, arrived blood red inside. My Steak, ordered medium was similar. In fairness the waiter dealt with the situation well offering a new meal or without cost.

As usual with Marriott the staff were all friendly, professional and polite.

The Hotel is Close to the main Shopping Areas, canals and museums. Also a huge range of night life options are within easy walking distance. Amsterdam is a real buzzy city with so much happening. Nearby is a large park with attractive gardens and lakes - on Sunday there was live music.

We didnt book breakfast and enjoyed a full Irish (as English!) breakfast at the nearby Aran Irish Pub where you can sit outside by the canal and enjoy the excellent friendly Service.

The Marriott is a good hotel though at 300 euros per night (without breakfast) it's not really value for money - you pay a significant premium for the excellent location.

Room Tip: The best views are on the front of the Hotel where a higher room is preferable

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel. I am happy to read that you enjoyed the excellent location of the hotel. I see you have had a chance to visit the numerous attractions which are surrounding the hotel.

I am disappointed to read that your order in Midtown Grill was not delivered as ordered the first time. Our steakhouse is considered one of the best in town. Unfortunately a mistake can happen, and I am delighted to find out that my colleagues dealt with the issue in such an efficient way.

I will ensure to share your comment about our staff with our colleagues, as this will motivate them even more to deliver excellent service to our future guests.

We hope to be able to welcome you back to our hotel again soon.

With kind regards,
Joost Berends
