This hotel is what you expect of a Marriott hotel. Good rooms, clean and in a good location. They serve a breakfast buffet (not included in the price) at 22 euros or 18 euros for the continental buffet. You can also order a la carte. Omelet prices are about 9 euros. Their buffet price is comparable to others in the area and certainely cheaper than other Marriotts in Europe. There is a pancake house (serves breakfast) across the street with outside seating on the canal.
We first had room 621 and it smelled like sewers. They changed our room the next day to 636 and at breakfast time (although we were on the 6th floor) it smelled as if someone was cooking next door. The smell lingered for a few hours. Bad ventilation system....
The breakfast crew were super with great attitude and went out of their way to help,
doorman and bellhop as well. Front desk and concierge good but not excellent.

Internet access is very expensive. the cost is 20 euros for 24 hours and it is not wireless in the room. You can use their internet in the lobby at a cost of 7.50 euros for 15 minutes.
Outrageous, if you ask me...
We would stay again at this property....

Great location (I know, as I am from Amsterdam myself) -- had to stay overnight for a conference there. My fellow conventionist also thought it a bit expensive to say the least and what a shame -- internet charged at a really ridiculous price. This is not of this age, Marriott -- I always like your service and quality, but this iBahn thing is a rip-off.
Anyway room for improvement, food is also not what Marriott is able to.
Counting on improvement. Include internet for free and you CAN be recommended....

The good:
- Very good Location : Close to Vondel Park, Casino, and cool cafes and restuarants
- Pay per view was not working (i guess this could be a bad thing also), so the techinician gave us full access to all movies for free for our entire stay.
-Lobby/bar recently upgraded.

The bad:
- Customer service was non existent, not even a smile at check-in or check out
- I had multiple red spots on my body every morning i got up. (did anyone say bed bugs?)
- Elevator and Room access keys work only 10% of the time. I thought at first it was our room keys that were "jinxed", but noticed a long line of people always waiting at the counter to have their card keys "formated"
- I paid an average of 400 Euros per night for an Executive Room (around 300sqft). This was ridicolously high for this hotel. It was diffcult finding another hotel at the time visited because there was some sort of long weekend holiday and the hotels were packed.
The room/hotel was worth a maximum of 150 Euros, even given the long weekend and location.

I only recommend the hotel to others if they are not in the mood to research multiple hotels and want to be in a good location (i.e convenience).

We stayed here briefly during a quick trip to Amsterdam. Though this hotel may lack the character of some smaller boutique hotels, we found it a reliable and comfortable Marriott hotel.

We were quite pleased to find our room ready when we arrived, several hours prior to the official check-in time. Our room was quiet and of adequate size, with a very pleasant view of the Leidseplein area. Beds were comfortable and not overly firm. The bathroom was small but modern, with a shower that featured a curtain stretching the full width of the shower (unlike the half-walls, which seem to allow water to go everywhere, common in Europe). A hair-dryer was provided, though it repeatedly shut-off after just a few minutes of use. Within the room, we heard no noise from the hallway and hotel itself, though some noise was audible at times from the busy street outside. The room seemed quite clean when we arrived, and housekeeping employees we encountered were friendly, but some dirt we tracked in on the first day remained on the bathroom floor throughout our stay, and some hair in the tub after the first use of shower was never removed.

No free wifi was available, but a nice-- if unusual-- feature was a laundry room with a free washer and dryer (as well as free laundry detergent), which proved useful after we were caught in a downpour.

We found the location of this hotel convenient. The hotel is just several blocks from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, and we found we were able to explore much of the central area of Amsterdam on foot. The concierge was helpful with arranging a bus tour to Keukenhof and purchasing museum tickets, which saved us from standing in lines upon arrival at the museums.

The hotel was in walking distance to the Heineken Experience. Across the street was a hop on/hop off canal tour company. The bar had an amazing view of surrounding area and a great place to people watch for dinner or just drinks. The bellman and concierge had great recommendations for whatever type of activities you are looking for and they are very knowledgable.

The Marriott is very easy to get to either by Bus (197 or 320), Train or Taxi. We went via bus having bought a return ticket at the airport, took about 30mins to go from just outside the airport to about 1min walk from the hotel. The reception area and staff were very welcoming and staff very helpful. Room’s nice size, clean with all you need for a break whether for work or leisure. Bar area nice and what looked like a nice restaurant but did not eat in the hotel. The only thing to say about this hotel is that because it is so well placed (loads of shops, restaurants, Heineken Museum and the Rijks Museum) you can get road noise if you leave a window open.

We stayed at the Marriott for 2 nights in April and we were happy with the service and quality of the hotel. We arrived at the hotel in the early morning and we were able to check in straight away, which was fantastic considering we had just been on a 25h flight.

The room was very clean and tidy and rather spacious for European standards. We couldn't hear any outside noise from the street (we were on the 5th floor) or corridors.

It is a easy tram ride (number 5), it takes about 5 minutes or it is approximately a 25 minute walk from the central train station. We wouldn't recommend walking if you have luggage though, as it is all cobble roads the entire way.

It's location is pretty good, you have the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Heineken museums just around the corner, five minutes walking. The Anne Frank house and red light district is about a 20 to 25 minute walk (depending on your speed) but is a pretty easy walk straight down the canals.

The only negative part to this hotel is that unlike many European hotels, you had to pay for the wireless internet (which was rather pricey).

Overall we would recommend this hotel.
