Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel
Ranked #84 of 374 Hotels in Amsterdam
Certificate of Excellence

We stayed in the hotel as a base for business based around Amsterdam. It is superbly located for access to Dam Square and Central Station so a 4 euro ticket from Schipol Airport to Central Station is easy. From the Station it takes 5 minutes to reach the hotel and is virtually straight across from the Station.

The hotel is as expected for a Marriot though I believe it to be overpriced though it falls in line with other hotels in the area. The reception was quick and efficient and the staff are helpful and take time to answer ant queries that you may have. There are 4 lifts to the rooms using your room card to activate the lift. The walk to my room on the 8th floor was a little quirky as you negotiate the corridors. My room was 817 second to last on the floor. The room had all expected facilities and was well presented. The Air Con was very good at controlling room temp. The bed was comfy and afforded me a good sleep.

I had access to the executive lounge which again was well laid out with beverages and nibbles available through the day up to 9 pm and breakfast was included if you have access to the lounge so no need to pay for breakfast.

There is a valet parking service for your car if you have one which I did though it cost 50 euro a night actually more than the car hire 45 euros per day. This extra was added to the room.

I liked the hotel though it may be out of a lot of budgets and be wary of the extras, though you couldn't get a better location.

On another note we had booked for 4 nights and I needed to stay a further 2 nights, when I inquired I was informed that the two extra nights would cost me over 1400 euros as they only had suites available my existing rate was 225 per night! so I don't believe it is good value for money though I like the hotel

Room Tip: I liked my room 817 though the view was rubbish I had a better view from the corridor!

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, as the first impression was not good, but the quality of the stay improved dramatically once our room was upgraded the second night of a five night stay.

We arrived on a busy Monday night when the hotel appeared to be quite full. There was construction going on near the front door, so we requested that we get a room away from the noise. We were informed that there wasn't anything available off the street and were assigned to room 262. We quickly found that this might be the worst room in the building. The room is right over the lobby and the main entrance. The windows were single pane, so you could hear all of the street noise and standing next to them you could smell cigarette smoke from visitors standing outside smoking.

The next morning we were told that rooms would be opening up that afternoon and that if we packed up our existing room, they would move our belongings to a new room while we were out on the town. We arrived back at the hotel around 6pm and they had not moved us, but the front desk staff was very helpful and assigned us a room on the 6th floor, which he said faced the courtyard. The room actually faced the street, but it was a much more comfortable room and still much quieter than the second floor. Construction noises were still an issue in the morning, but at least we could not hear chatter from the street or smell smoke seeping through our window. It appears that they will be ripping up the entire street in the coming weeks to make it a pedestrian only way, so I would anticipate loud construction noises for a good part of the summer.

The king size bed on second floor room was fairly firm and comfortable, but being an all foam mattress, it heated up quite easy and ended up being very uncomfortable if you tend to be a hot sleeper. The queen bed in the upstairs room suffered from the same heat issue and sagged a bit in the middle with two people sleeping on it.

Our Marriott gold membership provided us access to the lounge, where a breakfast was served every weekday morning and access to snacks and beverages was available. The lounge was on the 1st floor, so there was no view, but it was sizable and had plenty of places to sit. The food provided a nice mix of freshly made eggs and bacon in the morning, to appetizers in the evening. Beer and wine were available for a few hours in the evening. They made a point of not allowing any food or beverages to leave the room.

The location is great.

Dear Guest,

We appreciate the comments you shared on Trip Advisor regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We were very sorry though to learn that you experienced some challenges regarding the room assignment and we will thoroughly follow up on your feedback regarding the mattrasses. Happily you liked the room on the 6th floor. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences you encoutered also due to the streetworks that the city of Amsterdam is doing right now. Once everything is ready we will have a beautiful pavement again around the hotel. We were happy that you loved our location and thank you for your compliments regarding our Club Lounge facilities. We very much hope that you will visit us again whenever you plan to return to Amsterdam so that we can turn any mixed feelings to only positive memories.
With best regards,
Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel

Excellent location - very near the central train station and nestled in wonderful area amidst a wide number of cafes and restaurants. The staff was exceptional at every position I had to interact with: reception, conceirge, guest services, business assistance and both the restaurant and bar. Rooms are small but they are clean and well attended to. This was a business conference and they handled our company's needs well but I'd certainly come back here for leisure travel as well.

Really this is a good hotel. But at least not more than really good. When you compare price-effort it's not so good. Most stuff you need to pay extra and the prices are... hooooow... but you pay also the location. It's in the middle of Amsterdam and 10 minutes away from the main train station. Also the bigger rooms are really nice and it's comfortable. But my work colleague had a smaller room and it's tiny! So I need to say: Really good hotel but it's also really overpriced.

This hotel is in a great location, near the Central Train Station. There were many restaurants that were nearby. The room was a good size. The conceigeres were extremely helpful. WiFi and breakfast were not included in the price. It is Marriott property so miles could be used or accumulated.

We stay at this hotel for 1 week and it was a very nice experience.
The club lounge was good and the staff was very friendly.
The hotel location is very convenient for visiting the city but also a very comfortable hub if visiting other places.

I'm a Marriott fan, and this hotel is a great stop for work or vacation. It is located near the central train station, and walking distance to so much of what makes Amsterdam great. We had a large sized room with a great view. The service and food were superior. Easy choice for anyone who doesn't like to use rental cars or cabs and take public transport.

Room Tip: Get there early, be a platinum member.
