“Basic hotel far from City centre”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2011

We stayed in Tulip Inn for 2 nights on the August end long weekend. It was quite far from the city and took an hour to reach there (vs. 20 mins mentioned in their website) as the direct Metro was not working. We took a bus and then a Metro to reach the nearest station from where it was a 15 min walk (and again i would not call it as FEW mins as their site says). This was the worst part as we had to spend a lot of time travelling to city centre which is what we went to visit.
It is a basic hotel located near the river. Rooms were quite large and comfortable and the place looked beautiful in the morning after the rains. There was no kettle etc to make tea/coffee. Breakfast was good.
Overall recommended only if you have a car and you get it at a good price

Hotel is on the outskirts of Amsterdam on the river Gaasp.
You must realize that the hotel is isolated. No shops/restaurants.
Free large parkinglot. Public transportation about 10-15 min walk.
At reception vendingmachine and mall shop.
Quick check in. I booked a comfort room. These rooms are at the backside of the hotel.
Twin beds. Bit on the soft side. Synthetic bed duvet inserts. LCD TV with limited channels.
Bit worn out furniture. Clean bathroom with limited amenities. Hairdryer.
Friendly bar staff with happy hour.
Breakfast was included. Otherwise € 18. I think a bit overpriced.
Good coffee from machine! Scrambled eggs looked not so attractive anymore at 0800 am.
Fresh loafs of bread. Semi fresh orange juice.

Friendly and helpful staff, we were only here for 18 hours but made the most of our stay with the bar happy hour. Good value rooms which were basic but thats all is required really. The City centre is a tram ride away at a small cost which was not totally convinient but what more can you ask for for such a bargain. Overall i was impressed and would recomend it.

we arrived to a FREE car park (rare to find in amstadam). a quick friendly check in, room was good for the amount we payed, bed was made every day and fresh towels given. (note to english travelers) they dont supply a kettle but do what i did and take your own or have a drink at the bar.bar staff are friendly and catter to your needs. There is a lovely seating area out back to drink the night away looking over the lake. Metro 59 is a senic 10 min walk from hotel and takes you into amstadam and surrounding areas, its about 7euro a day which is great value for money if you do the amount of traverling as we did, Well lit paths at night. you have to pay for internet but if your desperet to check your facebook?Theres a breakfast buffet for 15 euro to fill yourself silly with hot food and bread, cheeses and fruit etc,a vending machien and little shop,This hotel is perfect if traverling from uk etc as its just off the A9 so no scary rounderbouts! xx

Room Tip: arrive in afternoon for them to make your room perfect for you.

We stayed here because I bought a night in this hotel with an online auction for 20 euros. Even for that price, I felt I was hardly getting my money's worth.

The hotel got off to a pretty good start, the location seems pretty nice by the river (since we live in Amsterdam we could reach it by bike) and the lobby seemed alright. The staff at reception was very friendly, checkin was smooth.

The first room we entered was not cleaned at all, there was stuff on the floor and the bed wasn't made. Upon reaching the reception the girl quickly gave us another room -the night before there had a major dance party nearby, and the hotel had been booked out. Since they only had one cleaning lady on duty, not all rooms were cleaned.

The second room was in the other end of the hotel, which we reached by going through several very badly maintained hallways: stains in the carpet, wallpaper peeling off, lights falling off the wall, mold on the room doors. The room was not much better; it looked clean at first sight, but turned out to be pretty badly cleaned and apparently not maintained at all. There were many stains on the floor and walls, there was soap stains in the bathroom, the faucet was glued together with old, brownish glue.
We decided to bear it, after all we were only paying 20 euros for the room. We were completely grossed out when we found the remote control though: it contained food stains of at least 20 previous tenants.

When we handed this remote control to the reception, they quickly gave us yet another room. This one eventually turned out just fine. It was still old and not maintained, but clean enough.

On a somewhat brighter note : the breakfast was great. Fresh orange juice, good coffee, lots of choice in everything.

Room Tip: Ask for another room if your room is unacceptably bad, there are some good ones left.

the place is pretty basic but clean and orderly.
it's a bit too far from the center, and although the nearby subway station compensates, the station itself is about 10 min walk away from the hotel

The system was not running efficiently in the Amsterdam Inn we stayed. One member of staff was so unfriendly and ignorant. She wears a pair of glasses, middle-aged and supervisor looking. There was no kettle in the room for tea and coffee or even boiled water. The bathroom was dirty and there was blood on the lid of the bin which had not been cleaned during 72 hours when we stayed. We will certainly not be back. It's a shame.
