“too many rules”
Reviewed 1 December 2011

stayed for 2 nights recently, room excellent however far too many rules for me
not allowed a burger in the bar. you have to order it through room service and eat it in your room, not allowed to take it from your room to the bar, stupid really stupid rule.
The Toilet, its worth booking just to see the toilet (it has electronic controls, god knows what they do????) left the toilet confused, left the hotel confused, as to all the rules, not for me never again, nice clean room (probably cleaner than an NHS Hospital) would I go back!!

I stayed here 4 nights in total, 2 for leisure over the weekend and 2 for work purposes. The hotel itself is 15minutes from the airport, although a taxi will cost you about 40 Euros!
The hotel is lovely inside, and my room although I would consider quite small for a "deluxe" was perfectly comfortable.

The bed was soft and fluffy, however my favourite thing about this hotel was the bathroom, which was really lovely with a big showerhead, although the shower was designed a bit silly as it was not raised this caused a lot of water from the shower to run onto the bathroom floor. The bath was really spacious and there was only a glass seperating the room which meant you could watch TV while you bathed which was quite nice :)

There was also a lovely Nespresso machine in the room, but only creamer was provided which made the coffee taste a little strange... I did also find it a little inconvenient of not having a kettle in the room at all.

The hotel had 3 pin plugs which is quite thoughtful of travellers who might have forgotten their adapters. I also ate in the Michelin star Japanese restaurant, which was delicious and sat at the sushi bar where authentic japanese chef prepared sushi.

In all I did enjoy the stay here, although the breakfast at 30 Euros appears to be a little overpriced for what was on offer especially as the scrambled eggs tasted horrible!

The staff in general were polite and friendly, although it is suggested that the doorman should ask customers to stay inside when waiting for a Taxi rather than directing them outside to wait in the cold whilst a taxi is called!

The hotel is also very close to a tram station called Cornelius, which is useful and only about 10-15minutes ride out to the Dam, which is in central Amsterdam.

Excellent hotel, free upgrade on arrival to a lovely room with a tv in the wall over the bath! Had dinner in Sazanka and it was a fantastic meal cooked on the teppanyaki table. Would highly recommend it. All the staff were friendly and helpful. All in all it made my business trip much more enjoyable.

Staff was very friendly, we got a room that was even better than the one we made a reservation for and breakfast was also great.

We live in Amsterdam so could have stayed home but I'm glad we went to the Okura instead. Thanks for a wonderful night!

Stayed her for 1 night, I got a good deal from lastminute.com with this being a topsecret hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room a good size, latge bathroom with bath (with tv in the wall) and big shower. The breakfast was great and I also used the spa which was very nice.
After checking in we got a taxi outside the hotel Dam square which was a bit expensive at 20 euros (it was only 10 on the way back). Internet was not free either, other than that, everything was great.

Stayed a couple of nights and this was a fantastic hotel I must say. Very friendly and efficient staff, well appointed rooms and handy location.

The bar on the top floor was very modern yet with a relaxed atmosphere.

Having been short listed for the World Demolition Awards 2011, we stayed only the one night for the award ceromony. Set in the heart of Amsterdam by the side of a a canal it is very convient.

The company booked a number of rooms for the event, all report the rooms to be modern, clean and tidy with clean fresh linen, although small for the price.

One couple within our group were given a free upgrade and reported this to be very good, the extra space making a big difference.

Being in the heart of Amsterdam the bars and Cafes are close to hand should you wish to view the city and its sights: Unfortuantly our tight schedule prevented much exploration or sightseeing.

The Awards were held in baquetting hall within the hotel and saw around 300-400 delgates from all round the world attending. Catering for that many people is always difficult and the hotel coped well.

The food was nouvelle cuisine style, set over 4 courses. Quality, flavour, texture and presentation of the meal was excellent, if not to everyone's taste. Divation from the set menu was by request only, but this ensured the meal was delivered professionally.

In conclusion: The Okura is a high quality hotel offering and excellent service: But dont expect to get this level of cheap - you pay for what you get.

Room Tip: An upgrade make a big difference
