We stayed at the Okura for 2 nights as tourists when we had both stayed with work commitments previously. The room was fantastic as was the service we received, from checking in, to checking out. Thank you to Anne-Marie and Katherine who both looked after us. As the weather was so good we managed to make the most of it and sat in the sun on the terrace overlooking the canal on Saturday before heading off to the Flower Market. We ate in Ciel Blue on Saturday night. Sunday we walked from Central to Leidesplein, stopping at the New Market and a lovely outdoor café for an impromptu lunch. Finishing with our evening meal at Serre on Sunday night.

Before I tell you anything about this hotel here is my top tip for Amsterdam wherever you stay - you can book tickets on-line in advance for Anne Frank's House and Van Gogh, this means you walk past all the people in the queues and go straight in!!
This hotel is truly luxurious with the corresponding price tag - we hoever got this hotel on Lastminute.com as the 'mystery hotel' so were delighted. More so as we were upgraded to a suite as it was my birthday. The room was large and immaculate. The bathroom boasted his and hers sinks, seperate walk in shower, bath and a toilet the like of which I had never seen before - you could wash after using it and there was even a drying function!! The hotel has free wifi and there is an Executive Lounge with a computer and printer which guests (I guess Executive ones!) can use. The Executive Lounge has complimentary tea, coffee, beer, wine and soft drinks. The bar on the 23rd floor has wonderful views (as does the Exec Lounge which is on the 22nd), prices are as you would expect for drinks in this class of hotel (5 euros for a beer etc). The restaurants in the hotel are very expensive - one with 1 *, another with 2*. we ddi not eat in them as I could not justify the prices. The breakfast was excellent and included in our deal. We walked everywhere from the hotel but understand that taxis are reasonable (taxi from airport to hotel was 40 euros though). There is a canal just outside the hotel and a boat hire facility. There are restaurants 2 minutes away - we ate in the Thai restaurant which was very good. There are donkeys, chickens etc in an area adajacent to the hotel - we were happy with the noises in the morning but it is a little unusual for a city centre hotel. If you had the windows shut you probably would not hear them but we prefer the windows open at night. The spa was difficult to reach as there was some refurbishment work (probably why we got the deal) going on. The pool and sauna areas were good and there was a gym if you have not had enough exercise walking around Amsterdam.

Just spent three nights at the Okura with my fiancée. As with all high-end hotels, the price is charged in the restaurant and for room service are also top of the range. Not an issue for us as we really don't spend much time hanging around the room. The hotel is well-positioned for public transport to all the major tourist areas of Amsterdam. There is a tram stop a couple of minutes away and it's then about a 15 minute journey to the heart of the action, with some good sites even closer. Contrary to what the receptionist told us, 24 hour tickets are available on board the trams and as of May 2012 cost €7.50. To get to the hotel from the airport, a train to the RAI conference centre leaves you around a 15 minute walk from the hotel. otherwise, the cheapest option if you have heavy luggage is to get tram number four towards the town centre and then switch to tram 25 en route. Or just get a cab if you're not worried about the pennies. The only real complaint is that there is an extra charge to use the swimming pool and fitness facilities which doesn't seem right for a hotel of this standard and price. 24-hour Internet access is now free although it's not the most immediately obvious option - the login screen will steer you towards paying €7.50 for 24 hours first.

I Dr. Shmuel Liran and my wife recently stayed in this wonderful hotel for three nights over the weekend of May 19th, 2012. Everything was perfect, the spacious, clean and well-equipped room in the 18th floor with the magnificent city view, the service, the front desk professional and polite staff, the tasteful breakfast buffet (plentiful though not enough variety), and the convenient public transportation (nearby metro station with two lines running every 10-15 minutes with travel time of about 10 minutes to the city center). The only drawback was the food and drinks in the executive lounge which was not sufficiently refilled, an issue which the hotel management promised to solve and I am sure that they will do. The room rate was a bit too high, though we got a good return for our money.

When you enter a LHW you expect more than the usual. High expectations are set when you pay more than 250 Euro a night, breakfast not included. I mean you can check all the boxes of must have features, but still not satisfy at this level. The room on our floor had the same design of the opening days. Old faded colors, a strip on the wall here and there. Cheap and sun faded curtains. Furniture with years on the back and a stream here and one there. The air was damp (old smokers room??) and the carpet had seen its best days long ago. I hope that we were just unlucky with our floor and that it will be renovated/updated soon. I can only guess that the high satisfaction reviews stayed on a different floor with different rooms and amenities. Bathroom was less than average for modern days. On the positive side: service and view was top notch.
We had a Teppanyaki at the in House Restaurant and it was marvellous. Without this dinner I would not remember my stay at the Okura. Will definitely stay somewhere else next time.

This hotel is wonderful. We got a deal on Priceline for 195 per night on the weekend.
We caught the Amsterdam hotel shuttle for 9 per person I believe to the hotel from the airport, it was a short ride. When we checked it we greeted by the bell man and the front desk service was great. We booked a deluxe room and were given a huge corner room 617. The view was great, would have loved to be higher up in order to get the full advantage of the wonderful view the hotel had to offer. The room had huge floor to ceiling windows, automatic curtains and a TV in the shower. The beds were comfortable and the desk and chair provided a good workspace. Everything was operated by a remote. When we were ready to venture out, the front desk provided a map and lots of information on traveling around the city and things to do. The entire city is easily accessed by the tram n about 10-15 minutes and the stop is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
There is also a 24 hour supermarket a block away and a Japanese and French restaurant in the hotel.
i would stay here again on my next trip to Amsterdam

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room.
