Hotel Okura Amsterdam
Ranked #28 of 374 Hotels in Amsterdam
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 December 2012

At 7:30 AM, after an overnight flight, you are greeted by a friendly staff that is genuinely eager to please. The hotel had rooms available for us at that early hour and the breakfast buffet was outstandingl!!!! Quality and selection was huge.
I had not been at the Okura since 1985 and it was great at the time and it has gotten better. The layout is sparkling with several great restaurants. Space abounds and even when crowded, there are not people milling around. The rooms are well furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable with every conceivable amenity. Service is superb! Although we booked this hotel because it was in close proximity to our Dutch counsel, we needed a conference area which was provided within 15 minutes by the desk clerk, fully serviced with coffee and soft drinks.
Although we put in heavy hours and did not have a chance to sample Dutch retaurants; the hotel restaurants were very good, but could be pricey.
One note to tourists, this hotel is a little remote from the center of Amsterdam but it is a short tram ride away. Given a choice, I would scarifice proximity to stay at a great place like this. I only wish other hotels would learn to conduct bisuness like this one!!!

As soon as I walked into the hotel I was greeted by the friendliest of stuff, who were always happy to help, always smiling! The reception desk was very helpful offering maps of the city, willing to recommend restaurants, bars and other attractions in the area.
The room was immaculate. Based on the 15th floor, great views and it included any person would ever need to enjoy a nice stay. OK, maybe apart from a bottle of water from a mini bar - €6!
The breakfast selection was delicious and check out speedy.
I am going to recommend this hotel to any colleagues and friends I know are planning a trip to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: The gher the floor, the better the view!

I visited the Okura last month and I thought that a nice place like that deserves a few words.
The hotel is gorgeous. It is sparkling new and clean.
I have not stayed over, so I can make no comments on the rooms, but the property itself is fantastic. It has a huge and a little intimidating lobby, the personal is very polite. Everything in this hotel is big and polished: from the elevators to the toilets.
I visited the Panoramic bar on the 23rd floor and I can safely say that this is probably the best place in Amsterdam. It is so different from everything that we are used to in this old-fashioned town. It is very luxurious and with amazing views. I would recommend visiting it in the evenings, because you can see the lights of the entire city. But be aware: the place is quite pricey - around 15 euro per cocktail.
Last but very important: for those coming to explore Amsterdam: the hotel is a little outside the center of the city. There is public transportation nearby but it involves walking and exchanging 2 different trams. Also the area is a little quite in the evenings, unlike the central locations, which are full of people all the time

This hotel is truly deserving of its 5-star rating. The service is excellent, the staff takes courteousness to the next level, and the hotel itself lives up to the pictures and the hype.

We got a corner room on the 12th floor so we had two really nice views - one of the canals and the other of buildings and a steeple. The room itself was really nice, the bed was very comfortable, and all the things needed to make a stay pleasant were provided. There's even a pillow menu if you need pillows other than the standard issue ones. The bathroom is spacious, what with a tub and a separate shower. Water pressure is great, btw.

As for house-keeping services, the room was kept spic and span. The staff even lined up our personal toiletries in the bathroom since we were in a rush one morning and items may have been in disarray. They have turn-down service as well, complete with robes and bedroom slippers. We tried room service too and the menu variety was more than adequate.

Location-wise, the hotel is really close to the Cornelis Troostplein tram stop, so even if it's not located in the actual city-center, it's very convenient to get to any of the tourist areas.

To get to the airport, we bought a taxi voucher at the concierge for 35 euros. A taxi from the hotel to AMS Schipol normally costs 35-40 euros anyway but the voucher ensures you don't pay more than 35.

If I ever go back to Amsterdam, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Highly recommended.

This hotel is pretty far from centre - don't attempt to walk from station as we did! The tram however is very convenient and 10 mins to centre. It is pretty uninspiring from the outside but is a sleek, calm and high class atmosphere inside. The Japanese theme is subtle but classy and the foyer, lifts, corridors and bar areas all feel rather plush and expensive.
The room was very comfortable and spacious, the highlight definitely being the bathroom - awesome shower and deep bath plus interesting glass wall!
The neighbourhood is nice and feels more like the real city than the more touristy centre. Visited a great local bar and cafe on the main street - interesting shops and leafy streets. Good , quiet base from which to explore the city. Staff very helpful and polite.
Like everywhere in Amsterdam this is expensive for what it is and no breakfast included.

This hotel fully deserves its 5-star rating in my opinion. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed and nothing has been left to chance. They have thought of everything I would ever need! Breakfast each morning had a huge choice and everything we tried was delicious and set you up well for the day.
The staff were all polite and extremely helpful without exception and are obviously well trained and managed.
I was attending an international trade association conference in the hotel and my wife accompanied me to spend some time in Amsterdam. The conference had several hundred delegates and the hotel coped with every aspect of the event, seemingly without any difficulty whatsoever.
The hotel is in a nice area on the south side of the city with two tram routes passing the front of the hotel. The city centre is only 15-20 minutes on the number 25 tram, but there are plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes within 10 minutes walk of the hotel if you don't want to go that far. Schipol is 15 minutes away by taxi.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend the hotel to business and recreational travellers alike.

Room Tip: Thoroughly recommend a south facing room overlooking the canal!

This is a real 5 Star Hotel. There is attention to detail everywhere, and the staff is clearly very well trained. The rooms are excellently decorated, with actual sculptures by Dutch artists. Everything clean and well appointed. Highly recommended.
