We were staying at the Hotel Okura Amsterdam on May 3rd thru May 6th. We had a great stay and loved everything – great views a warm welcome and comfortable bed, who could ask for more.

We enjoyed very much our days in Amsterdam and hope to come back to the Okura hotel soon. You will be on our must stay again list!

Loved every minute of our stay.
Restaurant service was perfect, both the sommelier's were wonderful.
Food out of this world! Expensive (sort of), but well worth it. Definitely try another Okura hotel.

Stayed here as wanted to stay in a different part of Amsterdam. To get there we got a metro from central station to Amstel station then a tram and the tram stop was close to the hotel. Situated in a quieter part of Amsterdam in the de pijp district some lovely little cafés and boutique shops in the surrounding streets as it the Albert Cupt market.
Our room was on the 15th floors with views over the city (could see the rijks museum in the distance) we had a superior double - quite small in size but large bathroom with glass wall so you could sit in the bath and look out into the room etc.
We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel as was prices quite highly however we had drinks up on the 23rd floor and drinks in the lobby bar which were both enjoyable.
We also used the spa and had a massage on the last day which was lovely. The only thing to mention is the spa isn't on the same floor as the tea room and treatment room. But a great perk was having a glass of prosecco and small chocolate cake after our treatment.
If your looking to stay in a modern clean hotel with excellent customer service and don't mind being a little further out from the centre. Stay here.

A nice hotel and well presented in both public areas and rooms. Okura I understand is Japanese owned which probably explains why there are a couple of Japanese restaurants here and a solid number of asian guests wandering about the place! Hotel isn't super central but if you don't mind a walk, you can get to the centre (but would take 30-45mins at a leisurely pace). But its located in a 'nice' area of amsterdam and borders a canal. The rooms are modern and fresh, but if i had one criticism, its that I'm not sure i like the shampoo and bath soap dispensed from a bulk storage container in the shower. Sure it probably works out way more economical than the traditional small bottles etc, but it makes it feel a bit cheap. And i can imagine they are re-filled via a large jerry can type thing when empty. Hmm. Dined in the non-teppanyaki restaurant there ('the other japanese one'), and whilst the sushi etc was very very nice, it was not cheap. If hankering for a japanese meal there are other restaurants between the hotel and town centre, which from checking out the menu's enroute are far cheaper. Would recommend staying, but just be aware of the walk to town centre, if not keen on trying your hand at riding the trams and/or don't want to take a taxi anywhere.

Dear xmyass,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay with us, your feedback is of great value to us. Nice to hear you liked your stay and your room and thank you so much for recommending us!
Please be informed that we offer the dispensers in the showers for environmental reasons; however a full set of bathroom amenities in small bottles is of course available in all guest rooms as well. This way, we leave the choice to the guests what they prefer to use. The dispensers are NOT refilled out of a jerry can, but it is done by placing a new, factory-filled, cartridge in the dispenser. I have shared your review internally and we are looking forward to welcoming you again in the near future!

Stayed for 2 nights in May 2014. Got a great deal on lastminute.com as one of their secret hotels. Rooms were large and well equipped with Nespresso coffee machines and capsules FOC. Well stocked mini bar, too. Massive beds and a pillow menu from housekeeping. Turn down service each night was welcome. Shower has two heads and was amazing coupled with luxury toiletries also FOC. TV is a bit fiddly to operate and the AC takes a few guesses. Location is also a bit out of town and there is no direct tram route. Take the 4 from Central Station and a 10 minute walk along the canal will bring you to the hotel. Taxis are 10x the cost of the €2.80 tram. I'd recommend buying a travel card for the length of your stay; trams are the best way to get around and are easy to get the hang of. Didn't use the restaurants but the roof top bar on floor 23 was a nice experience in the early hours.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floor have a great view of the city. Corner rooms have two windows overlooking d...

The Okura hotel is a big hotel which is maybe more known for the restaurants they have. This hotel is more japanese orientated. This can be seen by the type of restaurants and the style of the hotel itself. A downside is that the hotel is not really in the centre of Amsterdam. To the Dam Square it's a 3 Km (1.85 Miles) walk. Off course you can also use public transport with passes next to the hotel.

Reception staff was very friendly and extremely correct, Check-in is done very quick and pleasant. The rooms are very nice, not very big to be honest, but the bathroom is spacious and nicely decorated. Nice detail is the big window between the bathroom and the room itself, this gives the room a more spacious feeling. If privacy is wanted you can lower a screen which is operated from the bathroom.

The restaurants are well known and you can choose between french, traditional japanese, Teppanyaki. If you like to have dinner in the hotel it's recommended to make a reservation together with your room. We were not able to have diner since everything was booked.

Generally the hotel is very nice. But if you want to stay in a luxury hotel but don't want to spent too much on the premises, this is not your place to be! For the french restaurant (2 Michelin stars) count on about €450-500 (around $650) per couple (3 course with drinks) Breakfast is usually not included in the room rate and is €32.50 ($45) per person.

Downsides of this hotel is that for everything you need to pay extra, even if you want to use the swimming pool or internet connection. Also food and beverages are (in my opinion) far overpriced. Then there is the distance to the centre. For the price you pay you can get very nice hotels in the middle of the centre. If you do arrive by car, then this hotel can be a good idea since it's easy reachable by car and they have enough parking space.

Room Tip: Since in the Netherlands usually the wind comes from a southwestern direction, ask for a room on the...

Dear Critic_4_hotel,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us.
Nice to hear you enjoyed the service of our staff and you liked your room. Thank you for the compliment about our good accessibility when visiting Amsterdam by car!

I would like to stress out that when you choose for an Executive room type or higher, the breakfast and access to the health facilities and Executive Lounge are included in the room rate. This might be something to keep in mind when visiting the Okura again in the future!

Stayed here for 5 nights in a corner deluxe junior suite with my wife.

The hotel is located in a quiet part of the De Pijp district close to many hip bars and restaurants and just a few blocks from the famous Albert Cuypstraat markets. It is just a 5 minute tram ride then into the centre of town so well located.

In many ways the hotel was exemplary, what you would expect of a five star hotel, excellent and efficient check in. Very responsive front desk and phone staff. Knowledgeable and helpful concierge. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, however there were a couple of things that prevented me from giving the hotel 5 stars.

First the bed quality. The mattress had no spring or structure to it. Completely soft like a trampoline and terrible on our backs. While the housekeeping staff were very willing to help by doing things like putting a wooden board underneath, it shouldn't be required in a 5 star hotel. The mattresses should be of 5 star quality in every room let alone a suite like ours. So sleep quality was affected.

Air conditioning was haphazard in its working order. Temperature thermostat seemed to be forever stuck on 22 degrees no matter what we set it to. Again the staff tried to help and rectify it but was to no avail.

Rooms were spacious and comfortable but little things like torn blinds that had been stitched back together with dark thread were disappointing and not what you'd expect in a suite in a 5 star hotel.

Breakfast buffet was also very average for 32 euro pp. An egg chef making omelettes to order was a good start. The quality of omelettes though was terrible. Bacon was burnt and hard like rubber. Fruit was limited and of average quality. Room service breakfast was much better quality.

The remote control panel to control lights, drapes, air-conditioning, privacy and alarm was initially a luxury but then proved to be impractical. There are no light switches in the room other than for the bathroom so if you wanted to turn on a light you had to go over to the bed pick up the remote and adjust lighting that way. After 5 days it becomes annoying and you'd just like a regular light switch.

Lastly to have to pay 15 euro pp per day to use the gym was over the top. Why it's not included in the rooms rate I don't know, every other 5 star hotel and below that I have stayed at has included the gym for guests free. While this may be a European hotel thing i still think 30 euro per room above the already expensive room rates is too much.

Overall a lovely hotel and I would consider staying again if the price was right but too many "little issues" for us to rate it 5 stars.

Dear JK_family_of_4,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a detailed review about your recent stay with us. Really nice to read that you have thoroughly enjoyed your stay and thank you so much for the nice compliments to our staff. I have shared your review with the team.

We regret that you encountered some issues during your stay. The mattresses from our Eastborn beds have a tempered steel wire pocket interior with 375 springs per m², and we do get lots of compliments about our beds. We regret that your sleep quality got affected, but hopefully the wooden boards helped with getting the preferred nights rest. Your other comments about the working order in the hotel room are shared with the Rooms Division director. I understand that you were not happy with the extra payment for the gym. When choosing for an Executive Room type or higher, breakfast, access to the health facilities and the Executive Lounge are included in the room rate. Hopefully we will get the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future!
