4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

We stayed for 2 nights (Friday & Saturday) and were totally happy. The room was booked through a comparison site, so we knew we had a good deal, and it reached expectations. We arrived early and way before check in (around 11:30) and was pleasantly surprised when told our room was ready. They kindly gave us an upgrade without asking (thank you), although we did book 3 or 4 weeks earlier. The male receptionist was very polite, helpful and welcoming.

The room (Executive double) was lovely. It was very clean, well furnished and had everything we expect from a 4 star hotel (except no bath robes). The TV already had a welcome message on it and had enough English channels should you wish to watch TV. They provided a nice range of toiletries and the small toothbrushes and paste was an unusual extra touch. Despite being on the front it was quiet with very light noise heard from outside

The hotel is ideally located as only a 5 minute or less walk from Central Station. The outside currently has some work being done on it so it does not look as good as it is inside.

We paid £130 per night for the 2 nights and it was good value for money, although breakfast was not included and was expensive at over 20 euros.

Overall, a lovely stay, I would certainly return if a good deal was available and the Park Plaza Victoria, Amsterdam, is fully recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front and first 2 floors appear to have a balcony.

Very well maintained hotel, with excellent facilities. Conveniently situated opposite the central station, and within easy walking distance to most of Amsterdam's main attractions.
Be careful when you order breakfast though, ours was £20 per head - although very tasty and plenty of it. £20 each for breakfast is expensive!!!

Thank you for your review and your compliments. Just to inform you and future travelers, we also serve an à la carte breakfast in our Brasserie that is lower in price.
Looking forward to welcome you again in the future!

We stayed for 3 nights with 2 teenagers in adjoining rooms in the urban wing. The rooms were deceptively spacious by clever use of a mirrored wall and the bed very comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. I am surprised to read the recent negative reviews as these do not equate with our experience. The room was cleaned but late in the day. The location is ideal for sightseeing - most well known landmarks were within walking distance save for the Museumplein which was an easy tram ride from outside the hotel. We did not eat at the hotel save for a mouthwatering walnut ice cream in the lounge! but noticed that the Brasserie served breakfasts of varying reasonably cheap prices (for those who have criticised the hotel restaurant breakfast prices). The car parking service was excellent - the car being taken away from outside the hotel and returned at the appointed time. Two criticisms - firstly arriving late in the day we went to a Chinese restaurant recommended by the conceirge who booked us a table. It was very bland meal in a dull restaurant and we discovered the next day that it was only a few hundred yards further to Chinatown with a number of interesting and highly reviewed restaurants. Secondly, the swimming pool in the hotel was an asset travelling with teenagers. It was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. The pool was fine but there was an extra charge per person of 10 euros for use every time of the sauna and steam room. This was a highly expensive extra and in my view unwarranted - a great pity.

Dear Hilarytravel,

Thank you for your review and for pointing out the fact that the previous bad comments are not a standard in our hotel. The unfortunate fact that these are also posted on Tripadvisor is made better to digest when reading your review afterwards.
Thank you for the compliments and for making us aware of the improvements points. We are looking forward to welcome you back to Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam in the near future.

I've been to Amsterdam several times before and this hotel was definitely the best I've stayed in!
The rooms were lovely and clean, quiet and spacious with big soft comfy beds. The shower was hot and the room included lots of nice little extras which none of the other Amsterdam hotels I've used previously provided such as toiletries (shampoo, soap etc) free tea/coffee making facilities, iron, and TV with English channels ie BBC1, 2 and ITV.
The location of the hotel is pretty central for most things although it's easy enough to get a taxi if your legs are getting weary and the hotel was probably about £20 per night more expensive than some of the other hotels I've used here but the extra £20 was well worth every penny.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel for her birthday weekend...We arrived at 1am and were directed to our 'superior' room. The room was comfortable if a little pretentious in the urban wing... Could have killed for more light!..placed the do not disturb sign on the door and went to bed...At 2.30am a man entered our room without knocking and absolutely terrified us!...he said he was security and apologized. I can only assume he was attempting to let someone in their room and he thought it was ours!?!...anyway this totally ruined our break and neither of us could relax at the hotel.. Totally unacceptable...I spoke to the front desk the day later but I just got a blank look...Trust me, I did not dream the event. Room wast cleaned at all over the three days, nor was the tea/coffee replenished. As it goes the hotel is very central just across the road from the train station....Didn't eat there (If I wanted to pay 30 Euros for a breakfast I would like the dutch beach volleyball team to serve it!). there's a MacDonalds just around the corner, there's also a pasta bar 50 yard down the road that'll do a full English for 4.95.. This place has so much potential, it is just a crying shame that we didn't get to see it.....Amsterdam is such a beautiful city..and deserves better!.....

Dear Taffmorris555,

I was dismayed to read your review regarding your recent stay with us. After your review I immediately contacted the Chief Security to see what has happened during you first night. Our security officer was investigating an alarm and he did came into the room. According to him, he did knock as this is a standard procedure and we take this very seriously. For us, security and safety of our guests and employees is top priority and we do apologies for this unfortunate event and that you did not feel safe.

The issue that our front office employee did not act accordingly by calling the manager on duty is another problem we do thake very seriously. I have forwarded this issuse to the departments involved and also on behalf of them, our sincere apologies.

If you are planning another trip to Amsterdam in the future, please contact me directly to see what we can do for you regarding the inconvenience of your last stay.

We picked this hotel as it was central to transport links for a 5 day conference. We are both professional people & travel many hotels & to AMS pretty much every month however
I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!
We checked in & was given our room key for the next 5 days, the room had a strong odour of stale cigarettes, I rang reception who changed our room to the Urban suite. The suite is too dark & difficult to get ready, it is several lifts & stairs away from the exit of the hotel & the kettle was disgusting I really do think someone urinated in it. Housekeeping changed the kettle & agreed it had a bad smell!! Our room was not cleaned for the entire time we stayed there, i am not sure if they just missed us from the rota & as we out during the days, I had to ring reception for fresh towels & milk etc on day 3 but still no cleaning!! During our stay all front desk staff we nice & helpful but upon check out we were told the manager wanted to speak with us. we were confronted by Christina B (who is actually only the Human resources manager ) & her part time security officers. They claimed we had left biscuit crumbs on the floor, maybe smoked??!! & the room was in such a mess that they wanted to charge us 300euro for additional cleaning, huh maybe the bins were full because our room was never cleaned, my wife & i were outraged at her accusations that we lived in a her words "nasty " way. We felt very intimidated by the approach & my wife was shocked with her attitude & lack of class. They could not charge as nothing, we completely refused nothing was damaged, nothing was moved about, no one had smoked in fact the room was fine apart from it looked like someone had stayed there 5 days without a cleaner & for this they ruined our time away & made us feel threatened, confused & unhappy after spending nearly £1,000.00 with Park Plaza Victoria, well done !

YOU WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN T.REX!

In relation to the monstrous remarks posted recently by Rex, let me assure him and anyone else who is intent on completely trashing a room, that there is no place for you here!

If anyone reading this would like to see the photographic evidence of the way our “so-called guest” left his sleeping quarters then we will gladly reveal all!

Thankfully, the vast majority of our guests are respectful of the high standards we endeavour to maintain. Sadly however, there is no accounting for poor taste and outrageously bad behaviour, which runs against the grain of all human decency.

Sincerely Yours,

The location is excellent, it was a shame about the room though as it was very dark and dreary, not at all what the Web pages had shown, we had booked a Superior room which this most definitely was not.
We loved Amsterdam, can recommend the De Prins eetcafe on the Princengracht it is wonderful ,with lovely home made foods, recommend the soups, especially pea & ham,
Train service is excellent from Schipol Aiport 15 mins Central Station.
