“Great Location- Decent Hotel”
Reviewed 10 April 2010

We enjoyed our stay at the Banks Mansion. The hotel is in a great location and the beds and showers are decent. The internet usage can be annoying if you use it often in your room. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was ok but not so nice to eat in a basement. I think that may be a seasonal challenge and perhaps they move it outsside.

We stayed at the Banks on a romatic getaway. It was great - the hotel is in a good central position easy for the canals, trams and nightlife. The hotel is really nicely decorated and has warm welcoming staff. Its an all inclusive concept so once you have checked in you can help yourself to drinks from the bar and the mini bar in the room is complimentary too. The rooms were smallish but very stylish- this is due to the construction of the building and the hotel has been renovated to fit in perfectly with the design of the original building.Breakfast was in the basement and was really good- plenty of cereal, breads, fruit and a really nice lady making wonderful pancakes!!!! The staff recommended some restaraunts which were all top notch.I would recommend 'the five flies', not the most attractive name for an eatery but great food and atmospheric setting with excellent service. All in all a great place to stay in Amsterdam.

Note to the owners and general manager at the Banks Mansion; If you don't understand your contractual obligations and bookings with Travelocity DO NOT ask your guests to DOUBLE PAY! Manage your staff and shortcomings in reservations without placing the customer int he middle of your disputes. If you cannot reach Travelocity Reservations in 48 hours because your staff is not properly trained or LAZY please don't be assumptive and overcharge your guests while you attempt to figure our your contractual arrangements. Lastly, don't have your General Manager chase your guests out the door begging them to pay both Travelocity and your establishment because you were not able to reach Travelocity in 48 hours for payment terms.

Poor training and service are the cornerstone of the Banks Mansion in complete contrast to their Brilliant Hotel and location.

I stayed at the Banks Mansion with a colleague after enjoying many of the reviews her on TripAdvsor. After checking-in with a Travelocity reservation the Front Desk happily checked me in with the correct room overlooking the canal which was the correct room. So far so good. BTW: NEVER book a room off the main street just west of the Canal as a street car runs all night some 10-15 feet from just half of the Hotels Rooms.

The ambiance when you arrive is romantic and inviting with an open lobby and open bar for all guests. Kudos here. Note: If you are a business traveler watch for the expensive KPN Internet Access as you will only receive your first 50 minutes free.

The Room was small, quaint and stylish but maybe needing a refresh soon as the furniture, decor and bedding looked a bit worn and dated. The room and bathroom appeared clean and the fridge was stocked with numerous drinks and snack which are included as part of your stay. Overall...well done.

Breakfast....Well, Breakfast was acceptable with preserves, breads, yogurt and an omellete station. Coffee was ready made from a machine and service was very acceptable.

This review is reflective of my personal experience and is accurate as a Million Mile Traveler every year.

We were extremely happy with this hotel. The staff are extremely helpful, genuinely friendly and ready to help out when needed.
The great thing with this hotel is location and that everything is included, drinks and snacks in mini bar, in foyer there is a fully stocked bar, with coffee machine and in evenings they do snacks and wine.
Also in foyer are 2 free internet terminals.
Room looked over the canal and had a great view with big french doors opening out. Bed however and room are very small.
Breakfast was also included and had a chef cooking eggs to order.
My only criticism would be cleanliness, bathroom was not very clean or cleaned very well when we stayed. They could really do with reviewing cleanliness policy.
But we would definitely recommend this hotel and we would stay again

The Banks mansion is sit back and enjoy, the staff are helpful and friendly, the hotel is clean, the rooms are comfortable, the hospitality is excellent, all drinks are free and quality brands, afternoon treats were very niece. The hotel is situated at the top of central amsterdam, close to the main shopping street and the bulb market.
Tip Gaucho's out of the hotel turn right 2 streets on the right next to Mcdonalds, the best steak I have had in a good while.

My husband and I stayed at the Banks Mansion for 2 nights in March. I think the best way to describe the Banks Mansion is that it is a quirky hotel that can’t quite make up its mind whether it is a full service hotel. On the positive side, it is wonderfully located—about 2 minutes from Rembrandtsplan and 10 minutes from Leidesplan and the museums. So, you are right in the heart of Amsterdam. Also, a plus is the lobby lounge of the hotel which provides a complementary full bar, tea, and coffee. The lounge has a wonderfully cozy fireplace, just right for chilly Amsterdam winters. On the down side, the hotel seems to run with very minimal staff. We arrived on Sunday night and quickly learned that there was no bell staff available. Indeed, the Sunday staff consisted of just one person and so far as we could tell, there was no bell staff employed by the hotel. So guests are expected to manage their luggage pretty much on their own. Of course, many people prefer to deal with their own luggage, as we often do, but it is nice to have the option. The room had a lovely canal view (as advertised), but was incredibly small even by European standards. There is really no place to put luggage in the room and the armoire is not big enough to tuck the luggage or other items away. So, while the bed has the best down pillows imaginable, the room is not especially functional. Be prepared to map a path from the bed to the door around your luggage. The room also lacked basic instructions on how to use the television and phone and so we were constantly calling the front desk (our one staff person) to ask how to do this or that. If given the opportunity, I don’t think we would stay at the Banks Mansion again. While it certainly was not a bad experience, it was just not so enjoyable that one can overlook the room size and other issues.

This hotel is perfectly situated within walking distance to all attractions. It is situated on a busy road, however our room on the 2nd floor was double glazed and we heard nothing. Our beds were SO comfy with pillows to die for!
The all in policy just helps you to relax. A glass of wine after a hard days sightseeing, a few nibbles with a coffee, a bottle of water, a brandy as a night cap - its all there - no nasty bill at the end. You help yourself to everything and anything.
Breakfast is superb. Omelettes made to order, crispy bacon, fruit, croissants etc...
The staff made us both so welcome.
On wandering around we saw other hotels we had considered but none came close.
