We visited here during the "deep freeze" of Europe and, as a result, spent a lot more time in our hotel room than we ordinarily would have. Fortunately we LOVED our room! It was on the top floor and overlooked the canal. The decor was clean and the overall vibe was chic and comfy. Best of all, the location is superb and in walking distance or an easy trolley ride to all the restaurants, attractions and nightlife you could ask for. (Because it snow-stormed, we didn't get to ride bikes around town.)The concierge and staff are pretty good (but not exceptional) at recommending places to eat and drink. The piano bar in the lobby seems cheesy, but we had a super fun night singing and drinking along to a bunch of classic rock standards. The breakfast is really great but super pricey (something like 26 Euros), though there are terrific cafes (with cats!) in the big square behind the hotel.

We were on our honeymoon, but almost everyone else here appeared to be business travelers. Still, I would stay here again and again.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the canal. The narrow, one-way street out front can be somewhat noisy, bu...

This hotel has some good and bad points. It has a good central location, with a tram line just outside, The hotel is basic and clean with nice, accomodating staff. Had to complain however about the first room (room 125) that we were given. It was virtually impossible to get any sleep due to the large volume of traffic from the street outside!! Also the bathroom was minisule. The closet was actually bigger.!!! The second room was slighter bigger with a better bathroom. The beds are very soft, which is good or bad, depending on your preference. All in all this hotel is good for a short break, but you get what you pay for when it comes to hotels in amsterdam!

Room Tip: court yard facing rooms are quieter

We had a problem with our room 338 it was near the lift shaft and hummed all the time - we asked to move - this didn't seem a problem to them and they knew all about the lift - suggest they either soundproof the rooms around this or get the lift mended. We moved to a room on the next floor and on the opposite side and it was quieter and larger. Our rooms were of decent size for Amsterdam - the beds were clean and comfy, but the carpets and lower parts of both rooms were in need of a good clean - but it's nothing horrendous as some people have said and maybe the weather had taken it toll - ice and snow. The walls near the window seemed to have dust all over them - it was attracted to the textured wallpaper. The windows do open and you can control the temperature - other reviews have said not. Also there is a flatscreen tv, usual European hotel options but also BBC 1, 2 which was a bonus. The bar stays open till 11pm, but there is another bar called the Soprano's in the hotel - we walked in and out again - not our scene - no real ales and tragic pianist doing jokes....when there are friendly bars just over the bridge why bother.

We didn't have breakfast at E18 each a bit too expensive - so cannot comment on the food
There is a swanky restaurant attached to the hotel - we didn't try this so ditto.
Downside is it is E7.50 extra to have a kettle in your room it only supplied 3 teabags and 2 coffees. This seems to be general practice now in a lot of hotels, which I'm not keen on as I like a cuppa when I get in from a night out.

This hotel is in a good area for seeing everything. Also you are not far for decent restaurants and bars. Transport is good everywhere, even better on a bike.

Room Tip: If you want tea and coffee in your room tell them before you arrive as we didn't and it took 24h...

Stayed here for a weekend with my partner. The location of the hotel is perfect for a tourist attractions. The hotel itself was fine, basic but clean and beds were super comfortable. Corridors and rooms could do with some TLC but nothing major. Breakfast was very nice, anything you want and staff were very helpful. I would definitely return to this hotel if stay in Amsterdam again.
