“Favourite Hotel in Europe!”
Reviewed 9 October 2010

My partner and I started our 7 week tour of Europe in this place, and it could not be topped! Bit of a walk from the main station, but the facilities and feel of the place are second-to-none. Rooms are clean and new, perfect size as well. Breakfast was amazing, and the free internet was an unexpected plus! Beware the automated mini-bar though, we went to put some fruit in there (ie. moved a drink) and it was automatically charged to our room. Luckily the staff were very friendly and understanding. A must-stay!!

Stayed at the Eden Hotel for 5 days in early September. We found the hotel to suit us fine. The room was modern but a bit small and was cleaned every day. Bed very comfortable. Did experience noise in the middle of the night from a side alley at the hotel.

The location of this hotel is good, within walking distance of all the main parts of the town, Rembrandsplein, Dam Square, Leidseplein, Red Light District etc.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Regardless of what follows the staff I dealt with when I check in an checked out were friendly and very helpful. Also, to be fair I must highlight I checked in late (gone 10) and left early (before 7) so there was no oppotunity for them to resolve anything below as I didn't have the time or energy to complain (though personally feel there shouldn't be the need in a hotel that caters fo Business Traveller's who by nature have tight schedules.

However, the room was not good.

It wasn't clean - I'll be the first to admit I'm slightly OCD about bathrooms (I like them to be spotless and mold free) But this was not a bit grim. The sink/bath/toilet were clean. However, the psot for the vanity mirror (which by the way is usless for anyone under 5" 6) was thick with dust - the dried on kind thats been there for a while. The flush on the toilet was black with mold. When I went to hand my suit on the door for the steam to work it's magic that two was covered in a layer of dust.

It was tiny. The queen size bed was by the window and I couldn't walk around it without turning sideways to draw the curtains. The gap the main side of the bed was filled with a huge chair. Thank fully there was only me as two people would have been unable to stand in the main part of the room and would have needed to move into the corridor to the bathroom.

It was dark. Even with the lights on I was squinting - great turn down lighting - very hard to work by and quite depressing.

The advertised wired internet in the room was not there. There was a wire but it was to dark to see where it went and after the bathroom I didn't want to be under the desk. The free wireless in reception may have worked but since I was given the wrong code.....

This hotel was centrally located with an easy walk to the main parts of town and the famous red light district. The room was small but clean and the staff quite helpful. The only downside to this place was the noise! While the hotel faced a main street it was not this noise that was our problem. Our room backed onto an alley and the noise that came from here every night made it quite difficult to sleep. If you’re a light sleeper and your looking for a good nights sleep then stay elsewhere or request an internal room.

It's true what they say you get what you pay for.
This hotel is actually at the back of the similarly named for added confusion Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel.
You can access the hotel via either lobby so the only major difference we found was the room quality. Our friends upgraded to the sister hotel on arrival and we decided to stay in this hotel.

The rooms are a little small but perfectly adequate, the bathroom however tended to flood and make the carpet in the small hallway of the room wet.
Other than this though the hotel more than made up for it in being well located for budget accommodation. Staff were helpful when you could find them but to be fair it was easy enough to walk through to the alternate reception for the sister hotel.

Overall a great budget hotel in a lovely location.

We were very pleased when arriving - the location is great - right on the Amstel, and the reception is nice. However, the staff were rather aloof with only minimal welcome. The lift is small and very slow. The room was a decent size but not a double - two singles pushed together.

The main problem was cleanliness. The bed linen and carpet was stained, some dubious smudges on the walls, filthy - and I mean filthy - coffee cups, dust on the bed side units and hairs in the bath.

I showed reception the state of the cups and told them we weren't happy with the room. They offered us an "upgrade". We checked the room before moving - it was no better, the bath looked even more unclean, so we stayed where we were and requested a change of bed linen.

There was barely an apology for any of this, instead a disregard bordering on arrogance, and in fact the staff all gathered round reception to listen while we raised the issue and it felt rather oppresive. I did not feel fully settled in the room at all and was disappointed by the hotel overall and the staff attitude. Someone else may have a better stay but I would not return.

Stayed here for a couple of nights would say that the positive far outway the negatives. Room was clean and comfortable and had a safe. My only complaint about the room would be that we had no view just a brick wall and that the bathroom door was glass with a large space at the top and bottom so not much privacy.
The reception staff were pleasant enough but were nothing special, the concierge was very friendly and helpful as were the housemaids. Had one drink in the bar but again service was ok but nothing very special.
The hotel is in a fantastic location - there are great bars, cafes and restaurants right on the hotels doorstep in rembrantplein or its also really handy for leidesplein and dam square.
Hotel is easy to get to either get tram #9 from centraal station or the metro to waterlooplein.
Would definatly stay here again.
