“Great!”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

Stayed here for two nights and was very happy with the experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and the location was amazing considering the price. Would definitely stay here again if we return to Amsterdam!

We stayed for 4 nights 16/6/14. We were not in the main hotel but a block a few doors away, The location of the hotel is fantastic for Dam square but can get very noisy at night, we were in room 57 and my holy there were a lot of very narrow steps to climb, the room was small being a attic room but was clean enough but the room lacked plug sockets so you could only use one adaptor at anytime. We booked a breakfast which worked out at just over 7€ each morning this consisted of orange juice, coffeee a bread roll and cheese so if like us you like a decent breakfast don't pre-book use one of the many cafe's in the area. The room was cleaned daily and the staff were helpful and pleasant the walls are paper thin so you can hear quite a lot of noise within the block. After seeing some of the other Hotels within this area I think we would not choose to stay here again, cheap and cheerful but could do with a freshen up.

Perfect location at dam square .. Kindly reception people .. good Value according to the amount of money I paid .. The only problem is there is no lift and I have to carry my baggage through the tight stairs to the second floor where my room is ..

The Hotel was in a great location, very close to everything you want to do. It is also very near to the Amsterdam central station which is very convenient. The staff here were extremely friendly to us during our stay, they were very helpful to us also when we had any questions or concerns.

It is easy to miss on the street however because it is small with one door but if you keep your eyes peeled you will see it. The only bad points we had about the hotel was that it didn't have a lift (we were on the top floor, floor 4) the stairs were steep and we found this quite annoying. We also had to pay 20 euro for one of our friends who wanted to come up and see our room, she was not allowed up without paying this charge. While I understand that we cannot have anyone else stay (over night) in our room, we had already been charged a fortune for this room, let alone the trip itself

Overall, I really liked this hotel, great location and amazing staff all so helpful and friendly. I would stay here again and its a great spot for a city break.

A friend and I stayed here for two nights. It was decent, not sure if it was worth the price we paid. The bathroom was very small, it was hard not to get anything wet while having a shower. The beds were decently comfy. I think the location is what made this hotel worth staying at. BEWARE OF THE STAIRS. lol, very steep! The outlets to plug in your devices were in strange places, and some didn't keep the plug in the wall. Our room was clean and tidy. Perfect for younger travellers.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the backside of the hotel. MUCH more quiet.

The hotel is in the centre of everything. A ten minute walk from the train station and situated in Red Light District. Many restaurants, pubs and cafés right on Damstraat, you only need to walk a few metres. We stayed four nights at the annex, 50 metres from the hotel entrance. Steep, narrow stairs to the third floor. The room was very small, but had the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! On the negative side: the walls were very thin , so you could hear your neighbours, the hallway and the room was reeking with old ciggarette smoke which they tried to cover up by using tons of stinky perfume. Also, the neighbours were smoking weed in their room. The room was facing the back yard so no sound from the outside. When checking out you can pay €2 to leave your luggage in an unguarded room if catching a late flight.

Dear Maddepda:
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are happy to hear that you were pleased with our location. Although we are not officially located in the red light district we are glad to hear that you enjoyed our central location. Thank you for the compliments on our comfortable beds! We hope that if other guests are being a nuisance or too noisy that we are informed of it in reception right away as our reception desk is open 24 hours. This way we can intervene on on other guests behalf. Sometimes it happens that without specific instructions from guests they can be placed in the smoking section of the hotel when they prefer nonsmoking. We always request that if guests have specific needs for their room that they contact us in advance so that we can try to honor those requests. Although the luggage room is not guarded it is locked and the key can only be obtained from the receptionist where we can keep track of who is coming and going. We hope that you will visit with us again and if so, email us directly with your preferences. As a returning guest your requests will be given priority! We hope to see you soon! Best regards, the staff at the Hotel de Gerstekorrel
