Hotel Piet Hein was the perfect choice for my stay in Amsterdam. Convenient location (three blocks from museums) and 10 minutes tram ride from Central Station, renovated modern bathrooms and comfortable rooms. The single room was certainly small, but that is the norm in Europe, with window overlooking the street and Vonderpark across the street. The price I paid through CheapHotels was really a good deal.

I greatly recommend the Hotel Piet Hein in Amsterdam. I stayed there for seven nights this month, and I appreciated its proximity to the Rikjsmuseum and Van Gogh museum, the #2 and #5 trams (convenient to Amsterdam Centraal), and several excellent restaurants (Zaza, Pulpo, De Knijp, and Brasserie van Baerle). It's also right next to Vondelpark and within easy walking distance of the city's major symphony hall, the Royal Concergebouw. Sleek and modern, in black and grey, the Piet Hein has a helpful staff, comfortable lobby, a great bar, and provides an excellent breakfast in an inviting setting.

This was a very lucky find indeed. Small, friendly and pretty basic but it is the location that is simply excellent.

This hotel was ideal for us as it was within easy walking distance to main sights of Amsterdam, aslo only a few hundred metres from a tram stop so getting here after our flight was very simple.

It was clean and tidy with a modern interior feel and it is right on the doorstep of Vondelpark which is good for those who want to unwind after a hectic day in the city.

We took breakfast every day which was extra as we had not paid up front, however the choice and quality made this buffet breakfast one of the better ones we have had on our travels.

If you want somewhere quiet, clean, friendly and well placed within Amsterdam then I could not fault the Piet Hein, I would use it again.

We stayed here for four nights. The hotel is not cheap, however it has really helpful personnel, it is tastefully decorated, clean and has the best location.
It is situated right next to the Vondelpark, in a walking distance to the centre, near several tram stations, near a large supermarket and Leidseplain where there are numerous restaurants and right next to the Museumplein.
We stayed in a first floor room faicing the inner courtyard and it was spacious, quiet and nice. I would however avoid the room on the fourth floor facing Vondelpark since it has no shower tub, just a shower with a curtain right next to the toilet bowl. Whoever stayed in that room, was well justified comparing this hotel to a hostel I guess.
All in all we had a lovely stay and would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room in the new extension, facing the inner garden.

My partner and I stayed here for a weekend in May. It wasn't cheap, but was good value considering the quality and location. For some reason we were upgraded to one of the 3 rooms on the top floor. It was quite spacious by Amsterdam standards, modern tasteful design, very clean, comfortable bed. It overlooked Vondel Park and had a jacuzzi. The only problem was that the WiFi signal was quite weak and tripped out very often while surfing on our iphones. Our rate included a basic buffet breakfast which was available in a very nice dining room overlooking their courtyard garden (in which you could have breakfast in warmer weather). It included cereals, croissants, egg (scrambled and boiled), bacon, breads, cold meats and cheese, teas, coffee and fruit juices. There are plenty of really good restaurants nearby which the very friendly reception staff can advise you on. Location is good: the centre of town is no more than 15 minutes walk away and there are many attractions nearby such as Vondel Park, PC Hooftstraat and the Rijksmuseum. Tip: if you have an Iphone, there are a number of guide apps (some of them free) which include an Amsterdam map with GPS positioning (without 3G, so you can avoid roaming charges) so you'll never get lost. Just search the App store for "Amsterdam"

The poster who stated that this hotel resembled a hostel couldn’t be more wrong! The Hotel Piet Hein was perfectly fine, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

The hotel is located on a quiet, tree lined street three blocks from the Van Gogh Museum and Museumplein, and five blocks from the Rijkmuseum and the IAMsterdam sign. Also the #2 and #5 tram, which runs from Centraal Station, stops in front of the Van Gogh Museum, and the #3 and #12 tram stop is one block away. Vondelpark is right outside the front door of the hotel, and there are eating establishments in the general area.

The hotel was lovely. I arrived well before check in time, and due to 100% occupancy the night before, there were no rooms available. The friendly receptionist offered to check my bag into their closet, then said she would call housekeeping to have a room that had just been vacated prepared immediately. She offered me refreshment and use of the free internet (which is located in the lobby) while I waited and, sure enough, ½ hour later, my room, # 209, was ready.

My room was classified as a single, however, it would have easily accommodated two people. The room was L-shaped and there was a full sized bed rather than a twin. The room was very clean and quiet. There was no view, as the room was two floors below the reception floor, however, there was a window which let in plenty of light.

The bathroom was small but well appointed and spotless. Plenty of hot water, and water pressure was excellent. For those who are used to having washcloths, remember, this is Europe, so none were provided.

I did not try their breakfast, as at 15Euros, I thought I could do better, so I am unable to comment on it.

Overall, it was an excellent stay in an excellent hotel. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again the next time I am in Amsterdam.

Tip: In order to use the elevator, you must keep your finger on the button until you reach the floor you wish to access. The staff will explain that to you at check in. Also, if using public transport about the Amsterdam area, the 72 hour Metro pass is absolutely worth it!
