Had booked a junior suite and upon arrival was given an upgrade to an amazing 1 bedroom, living room, dining room suite with a view of the canal. Was thrilled. The room was amazing.

Alas, there was a problem, the windows didn't open.

Being a traveler who tries to get what he wants, I asked if there was another similar room with windows that opened.

The staff went above and beyond and within 24 hours, put me in a room with 5 balconies, with an office space, bedroom, 2 bathrooms, dining and living rooms. An amazing upgrade still at the original price.

Thanks Dennis and to the rest of the staff. You guys were great, made the trip that much better, I highly recommend this hotel for those looking for the luxury experience.

Room Tip: Take an upgrade, go for a canal view. If you want a room with a window that opens, make that clear...

We stayed from 8 - 12 July. We booked a deluxe room with a river view but upon arrival we were upgraded to a suite. The room (#238) was at the front of the hotel and had balconies (off both the sitting room and bedroom) with tables and chairs and that that looked out at the river. The suite was spotlessly clean and had many amenities. The bed was very comfortable. We found the staff to all be very friendly and helpful. We greatly enjoyed the canal tour available with the hotel's boat, and Freddy's bar was a nice place to relax and have a drink. The breakfast buffet offered many options (plus other items such as omelettes could also be ordered). The hotel's location is central and a 10 - 15 minute walk to major city attractions. The free wifi worked well. This is an expensive hotel but that is expected of one of the "Leading Hotels of the World". We thought the price fair and loved our stay. We'll stay here again if we return to Amsterdam.

I stayed with my husband and child at this hotel in June, 2014 and it exceeded my expectations, which were already high. The hotel is quite lovely, the views are spectacular, the location ideal, and the staff is courteous, gracious and warm.

I splurged and stayed here overnight while visiting friends in Amsterdam last week. I was upgraded to a massive balcony suite that overlooked the canal and was completely dazzled by the room, the amenities and the exquisite service. Everything was meticulous and immaculate and the staff was very friendly and informative. This may be a 5-star hotel, but A'dam is a very casual city, so despite the grandness of the hotel, it's not at all stuffy. Enormous bathroom with everything you could possibly need. Lovely turndown service and here's the best part EVER - upon checking in, I was asked if I wanted coffee with my wake up call...and what do you know? At 8:30 am sharp, the phone rang and the door knocked! What a treat! Expensive? Yes. Worth it? YES!!

Room Tip: As always, if you're a smoker I recommend requesting a room with a balcony.

Although the bathroom was spectacular, the bedroom was quite ordinary, and the reception staff pretty average. Not worth the extraordinary price. We booked 6 months ahead and, after a wait of 4 hours, were given a room on the first floor straight opposite the elevator. Breakfast was $50 each, but that was nothing compared to a room service meal. My husband ordered lobster, and got ONE SCAMPI. 45 Euros; you've got to be kidding. Plenty of other places to stay in Amsterdam.

De L'Europe is a first class hotel that deserves its rating. The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful, the public facilities and rooms were spotless, and the hotel is very conveniently located near major attractions. The nearby tram line is easy to use and an inexpensive way to get around town. We had a relatively small but nicely appointed top floor room with a small balcony that overlooked the Amstel River. We elected to have breakfast at the hotel, which was a substantial buffet. When I reserved our room I mentioned that we were returning to Amsterdam for a second honeymoon, and were greeting with a complimentary bottle of sparking wine from the management, a thoughtful touch, and one that made us appreciate De L'Europe that much more.

My wife and I enjoyed 4 nights at De L' Europe in late June. The hotel is well situated on a canal in the center of town, an easy walk to Amsterdam's many attractions and neighborhoods. If you like traditional style, luxurious hotels, this is the place. We booked several months' before our trip and were lucky to score a 5th floor room with a private balcony overlooking the canal. We were really able to soak in the atmosphere just sitting on the balcony, having a drink, and watching all the activity below. The room was very comfortable and spacious; beautiful wood floors; great marble bathroom with separate tub and shower stall; comfortable bed. Also, the room was incredibly quiet; we seldom heard any noise from the outside when the windows were closed. The fitness center has a reasonably good selection of free weights, machines and treadmills; more than sufficient for a full work-out. Next door to the fitness center is a small indoor pool with the feature that allows lap swimmers to swim in place. The spa has dry and wet saunas. All told, these facilities create the feel of a resort and are great for relaxing after a full day of walking the city; the times I used them, they were virtually empty. We had free internet and free bottled water in the room daily. We watched two World Cup games in the cozy bar, where we were given a free beer every time the Netherlands got a goal. The hotel is elegant but not stuffy; the staff is friendly. The hotel is three tram stops from the train station, so getting from and to the airport via train and tram was a breeze and far less expensive (and time consuming) than a cab. Within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel are dozens of decent restaurants. This is definitely one of the nicer hotels we've ever stayed in and we could not have been happier with the choice.

Room Tip: The canal facing rooms provide great views and atmosphere; best to be on the 4th or 5th floors.
