We went with the rice table and it was OK - nothing to write home about. Seemed to us more an Indian spread rather than Indonesian. Pleasant enough man serving the tables (at his own pace), even if he did spill a curry sauce over my trousers. But the overall experience (fairly expensive and average meal in a restaurant lacking any atmosphere and in a nondescript part of town) was forgettable.

We stopped off here en route home for a quick rice table. My friend who lives here described it as cheap and cheerful. Hmmmm? She had warned me of the poor service and the lady did not disappoint, but a gentleman later was very charming and helpful. The soup that came did not smell great, but did taste better than it looked with tiny bits of chicken (the tatty bits the dog normally gets) and a slice of boiled egg in it. Took us a few minutes to work out what it was. Gave us a laugh trying to figure it out. Then the rive and dishes came. Mostly chicken based with some beef I think, one of which was so spicy it numbed my mouth. The satay was very gooey. Comments aside if you do not have high expectations you will not be disappointed, but have I eaten in worse places then the answer is yes. Although not gastronomique it was a laugh and not unpleasant, but yes, cheap.

We left this meal quite full and happy! The rice table was yummy and full of tastes and flavors! The atmosphere is pretty normative, but the food is great!

A family-ran Indonesian restaurant, friendly service, nothing flashy about the interior. The rijstafels looked tempting, but as we were not so hungry we decided to order a la carte. Many of the dishes were more Indian inspired than typical Indonesian. The food itself was quite disappointing. Despite our explicit request, both fish and meat were way too spicy, killing most of the special flavors. We needed lots of water and beer to ameliorate the burning. The white fish may have been quite good when prepared with less pepper, but the lamb was not. Very chewy, definitely no prime cut. There are much better Asian restaurants in Amsterdam.
