“Why stay at Agora.”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Our visit to Amsterdam was only for two nights, so we had limited time to take in the sites.
We booked our stay on line, on arrival our room was confirmed but not ready.
So when we arrived later in the afternoon we were told our room was no longer available. And we were being moved to another hotel which was not so central. It was disappointing. As we had to move and get a taxi which they said they had payed for and did not. Poor service wouldn't recommend staying even for a short stay.

The hotel is 2 star and it shows. Rooms are very very tired and not clean. Staff though are young and friendly and bed was OK and so was bathroom. Breakfast was reasonable but floor areas and walls filthy.

This is a very good budget hotel.

I have no real complaints about this hotel. Sven, who was manning the front desk, was very friendly and helpful when we arrived, and helped us with our bags and gave us some recommendations of places to see in Amsterdam. The room itself was relatively big, with a biggish, clean bathroom. The only problem is that the windows of our room looked straight into some other rooms, making one an inadvertent peeping Tom on occasion.

The hotel is well located, and close to a number of tram stops, and within walking distance of most attractions, and wide variety of bars and restaurants.

The free breakfast was also not bad, including bread, cereal, bacon, and scrambled eggs, as well as a selection of juices, and coffee and tea.

I see a number of reviewers have complained about the noise levels around the hotel. We arrived on Saturday, and did find it noisy at all that night, and had no trouble sleeping (that may also have been because of the copious amounts of beer that had been quaffed prior to going to sleep).

Good budget hotel, close to the sights and bars for anyone staying in Amsterdam.

This hotel is in a great location, has an owner that also runs a Restaurant from the opposite street which is connected to the courtyard of the hotel by a beer garden with loud continuous noise, broken glasses, smashing of bottles, group singing etc which at 1.30 am reduced in volume a little and music finished at 2.20am then furniture was being moved. We had a room overlooking this courtyard, no AC, had to keep windows closed but this only slightly muted the noise. The Sunday night less noise and finished around 11.30 pm Monday night quiet!!!! Staff at Hotel Agora most likely find it very hard to provide a professional service when the owner has no interest in doing so.

IN A CITY THAT IS SO EASY TO GET AROUND, AND WITH SO MANY HOTELS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE.
In between 2 night clubs and on a noisy canal...no sleep. Would have closed the window to block the street noise, but no AC.
The hotel is dirty and in disrepair. Smelly damp carpeting everywhere. Threadbare towels and exposed wires covered with duct tape in the bathroom.
WORST OF ALL...OVERPRICED.
The only saving grace, some of the staff, but that's not enough. There are too many choices...so SKIP THIS ONE!

Room Tip: chose this for location. Amsterdam is a small city and almost everything is in a good location
