Hans Brinker Hostel Amsterdam

Yes it is very basic but you get what you pay for. Everything was clean and our room was big enough. Short walking distance from the central train station and close to many bars/cafes/coffeeshops. Receptionists where also helpful. Breakfast was bread with jam or chocolate spread. Would go again.

Stayed for 2 nights in the hostel, I thought it was a great budget place to stay, fairly central, close to restaurants, café's & museums and it had everything you'd need, even it's own underground nightclub.
Didn't spend any time in the nightclub as it was full of 16 year old's, it felt a bit wrong, but the stairwell leading down the the nightclub was really interesting.
If you're planning on a trip to Amsterdam I recommend staying here, it's cheap and why pay more on a hotel when you wont be spending all that much time there

Had a great time and this was the perfect accommodation for our 18-30's type holiday.

Good location, walking distance to most bars and cafes, close to museums and other interesting sites + the big nightclubs.

No issues with cleanliness or hygiene, just simple easy lodging.

Casual bar is good, the nightclub kinda dirty.

If you stay here be sure to check out the dolphin bar just down the road.

What you read is what you get. Basic hostel rooms, basic price. I stayed here purely because of their advertising style, great humor!

Plenty of easy secure storage, good priced drinks and excellent location. Happy hour is great fun and all the staff are friendly.

People need to stop moaning about this place. We paid 20 euros a night for this. It's in Amsterdam, which is expensive in itself, where the next cheapest would be about 30 euros per night. Plus they don't ramp up the prices over the weekend. As a budget hostel, what do you expect? The receptionists were ok, but the entry system is crazy as they have to let you out and back in again, so make sure you keep on their good side. Good location close to a few decent clubs, and only about a 20min walk from the railway station. Rooms were basic, beds were average, toilets and showers were rubbish. Evening meals for 6 euros were fine, large portions and actually quite tasty - surely better than eating out at an overpriced tourist restaurant that'll rip you off, of which there are many in Amsterdam. Wifi only seemed to work in the common room, but once you're down there you really shouldn't be on your iPhone as there's loads of great people there to smash on with. It's a budget hostel, if you can deal with a few unimportant problems then stay here. Otherwise, book a 50 euros a night hotel in the city centre.

May 2011 - Stayed here on a college trip in 2011 & it was definitely enough to put me off Amsterdam all together; on first arrival we had to carry all of our luggage downstairs, past the toilets which had beer cans and sick in from the previous night - great start; to which we then had to put our luggage in their nightclub/stripclub, as it had a pole in the middle of the room, where did they bring us?! When we could finally go to our room it had written on the doorframe 'Welcome to Hell' brilliant... the room was very spacious which was good as there were 6 of us in one room, the bathroom was awful, bedsheets were dirty and black hairs everywhere. When we went to get our 'breakfast' there was maids cleaning the mess/sick from the previous night on the tables they expected us to eat on, no chance; from then on we decided we would probably be better off without breakfast.
All in all - disgusting place to stay; however if you really don't care about the standards of cleanliness etc, then you probably wouldn't mind it here!
