Stayed in a triple room, no.26, with my 2 adult daughters for a long weekend. 3 comfortable single beds, plenty of room, and adequate wardrobe and shelf space. We appreciated the tea/coffee tray, but only enough for one cup each, and mugs not washed by housekeeping. The decor was a bit dark for my taste, but the room was clean, and well cared for, and had excellent over bed reading lights.
Bathroom small, but modern with full bath with shower over. Always plenty of hot water, and good water pressure in shower. Only problem, no window or extractor fan, so got very steamy, and smelled damp. Had a problem with door handle- reported it at breakfast, and was fixed by midday.
Our room faced the street with trams, and, yes, you can hear them with the windows open. I had taken earplugs, and wasn't disturbed at all.
Breakfast was Dutch, and very good. I can't understand previous complaints. Yes, only cooked boiled eggs, but fresh fruit, choice of juice, yoghurt, cereal, 4 different rolls, 3 cheeses, 5 meats, pate, pastries, muffins toast etc etc, what more do people wasn't? They don't however supply any decaffeinated drinks ( didn't find a single establishment that did !) so if you need decaf, bring your own.
We found the staff all to be friendly and extremely helpful, giving advice on tram journeys, restaurants etc
Located 5 mins from the central station, on the tram and canal tour stops, and within walking distance of all the sights the hotel suited us perfectly. I will be recommending it to friends and family.

Great location, within walking distance of all major attractions. Read previous entries regarding reception, lounge and breakfasting area all connected, it was excellent. Previously read reports complaining, for us, totally unfounded. Is a very old unique building, it is to be savoured.
The staff were very helpful and very pleasant. Our room was on the fourth floor, weather was very warm. Air conditioning in room. We had french doors in the room, they were open all the time, yes we did hear the trams and the people. Its what Amsterdam is all about.

Room great, breakfast, continental as it should be, staff very friendly.....room retro with Marylin Munroe present. Location excellent.

16th visit to the Dam..... always on businees before in well know hotels. This was the best ever

Room Tip: Room 43 amazing retro, french windows, yes you will hear trams........that is Amsterdam

Right near evrything, less than 5 minute walk to central station. Direct on the hop on hop off canal bus tours. The heart of the city and all its shopping is around you. Fantastic sized bathroom and good sized and clean rooms. Comfy beds, friendly staff, delicous breakfast made this a perfect place to stay. Would definetly recommend to anyone travelling to Amsterdam.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Amsterdam over a long weekend and picked this hotel as it was close to Centraal Station and ideally located for pretty much everywhere else; not just the various attractions and numerous tour meeting points, but also for various bars and cafes.

Our room was on the fourth floor, which is accessible via a cosy lift and stairs. Whilst a bit snug and wonky (as is standard with a lot of the buildings in Amsterdam, it seems!) the size of the room was perfect for us. The kingsize bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was fine - just there was a massive step into the bath from the floor.

Breakfast was suitable for our needs, as most days we did not really require a large meal to keep us going.

I note other reviews have remarked about the hotel lobby, breakfast room and bar all being the same; in my opinion, I quite liked the fact that everything was in one place. Besides, surely these sort of features add to the character of a place?

The staff, whilst standoffish at first, grew more helpful over the duration of our stay; when we reported a problem with the shower seal early on they appeared concerned. The quick fix was some gaffer tape til the maintenance man was able to attend, the staff were apologetic and offered us free wine.

My main criticism of the hotel concerns the cleaning. For example, the cleaner of our room did not remove stuff under the bed as there was a fries tray and paper bag under the bed from at least the previous resident. Secondly, and perhaps more annoyingly, we did not have clean mugs and glasses in the room every day.

I would stay here again, but would advise you be prepared to wash out your own mugs and glasses whilst you're there.

Just returned from long weekend in Amsterdam. After researching the hotels in the area decided to stay at Hotel Sint Nicolaas, location was great as was 5 minute walk for central station and came in by train from airport. I thought the hotel was very clean, the room we had faced the front and we thought it might be noisy - but it wasn't - slept well. Bathroom and shower were excellant. Staff very helpful during booking, emailed a couple of times before we arrived and were very prompt with response.
