Hotel The Neighbour's Magnolia

Stayed for 18 days {8-25 June/2012}

This hotel would get a 5 out of 5 if not for the poor reliability of the wireless Internet. This was a problem for us because we plan and book visits to attractions, verify transportation reservations, plan our day, etc., via Internet.

Other than the Internet, this hotel met or exceeded all of our expectations. It is clean and well located in a safe area, with the tram #2 to Central Station located just outside the door. The owner and staff are extremely friendly. The owner is a wealth of information on Amsterdam and The Netherlands, and there he and his staff do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. Because of the duration of our stay, our room was upgraded to a studio apartment with a mini stove, a fridge, microwave, etc. Breakfast is served between 7:30 and 10:00 daily and offers a nice variety of bread, cheese, cereals, coffee, tea, etc. We felt very comfortable and cozy, and there was nothing we asked for that was too much. The personal and friendly touch is something that is missing from most major hotel chains. Hotel Zandbergen has managed to retain it. We enjoyed our stay, and we will return again. We highly recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Try to get the suite -- if you are staying longer thn a week, ask and you likely will get upgraded i...

Really amazing location, steps from the tram stop and a few blocks from the Van Gogh museum. There is no elevator so if you take a lot of luggage like we did, be ready to lug your bags up steep stairs. No fault of the Hotel, it's the type of construction which provides this hotel with its charm. Wireless Internet worked just fine, even though there were three of us using it in our room and breakfast was quite complete, though the coffee had to be made by the staff each time you wanted a cup. Beautiful area to go out for a walk. Just a few steps from the entrance of a major park with postcard like vistas. The staff was amazing, very helpful and courteous.

Room Tip: Pick a room in the 1st floor if you have many bags, as you'll have to carry them up and down the...

Positives:
• Very friendly and helpful staff (where we were supposed to park our car was full, when contacting the hotel they were able to send us to another car park )
• Clean room with comfortable beds and pillows.
• In a quiet and pleasant area, but still good access to the city Centre by tram.
(Negatives) :
• The room is very basic and the bathroom could do with a new showerhead and shower curtain pole.
• Steep stairs to access the rooms

Room Tip: The room for 3 persons is in a basement (with 2 large windows) to the front of the hotel. Definitely...

One block from the tram and Vondelpark. Walkable distance to just about everywhere we wanted to go. We stayed four nights. Our second floor room was on the street, which gave us a window on this Old South neighborhood but tended to be noisy (take ear plugs). Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Breakfast was included and was good.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the street or bring ear plugs.

Our family of four stayed in the penthouse apartment, which is very spacious and has a small balcony. Lots of room for four people, and we enjoyed watching the Olympics on the flat screen TV in the evenings. We ate out but it was very convenient to have the kitchen to make hot drinks. There was plenty of storage for clothes and an iron/board if needed. Bathroom was small but the shower worked perfectly and we had plenty of towels. It was warm but there were two floor fans, which provided enough breeze for the night and we left windows open too, as it was quiet outside. The breakfast was excellent, with boiled eggs, cheese, fruit, croissants and good bread rolls. Sheets and duvet covers were spotless. The staff were wonderful. We had a small problem, which they were quick to address and they couldn't have been nicer. We bought tickets for the Rijksmuseum, the boat tour and the Van Gogh museum at the front desk and bypassed some long lines, so that was a very useful amenity for them to offer guests. We really liked the location, a little out of town on a quiet residential street, just a couple of minutes' walk to the beautiful Vondelpark. We didn't mind walking but there is a tram service very close to the hotel.

We are a family of five and we stayed at the penthouse apartment for few days. The apartement is very spacious with large living room and well equiped kitchen. The staff was very kind and helpful and breakfast was fine. Near-by tram station can take you to city center, or alternatively, take a midium distance walk. The only drawback we faced is the need to take five suitcases three floors up and down at arrival and departure. Overall, we warmly recommend the place.

We had an apartment just outside old town Amsterdam. The kitchenette was a plus as we could go to local market to buy lunches. Located next to a nice park. The service was very helpful with planning, using phone, late check out and holding luggage. I would stay here again. It was not inexpensive, but a lot of space for what we paid.
