“Excellent Choice in Amsterdam”
Reviewed 5 January 2010

The Aalders has an outstanding location, literally just a few steps from both the VanGogh and Rijiksmuseums, You can walk to Leidesplein in 10 minutes and to the Jordaan in 20, The personnel working at the Aalders are helpful and friendly. We had a medium size double, which outside Europe would have only been described a miniscule, but for Amsterdam, it was of a decent size. The room was bright, clean, and efficient, with a small outside deck with two chairs (room #10), which would have been great in June perhaps, but of little use in January with snow falling. Breakfast is included and was typical of Europe- bread, cheese, meats, hard boiled eggs, delicious yogurt, granola, toast, juice and coffee or tea-definitely no complaints. The hotel has free wi-fi and if you're without your own computer, there is one for guest use in the lobby. For the price, details, and locations, Aalders is an excellent choice when in Amsterdam.

I was for only one night in Amsterdam, in this hotel. I book this hotel spacially for its location which is close to the main museums of the city.
Its location its great, because its very close to the rijskmuseum and Van Gogh´s, it´s just five minutes walking. To go to the city centre is very easy by tram nº5. it is located, in a very quiet street, but you can find lots of restaurants and bars very close in the square near the hotel.
Room wasn´t very big, as usual in most capitals in Europe, but it was clean. The hotel it seems a little bit old, it needs some restoration, but it is very comfortable.
I think is very good choice if you want to go to Amsterdam. Its really a worth enough to go.

Breakfast was ok, it has everything you want to start, for the day. Bread, toast, pastries, coffe and tea.

This hotel is located on the edge of the city centre. If you prefer a hotel in a slightly quieter area, then you will like the location. Vondelpark is just around the corner, and there is a nice, busy square where you can eat about 3 minutes walk away. Two trams run to the City Centre from here - the station is literally 2 minutes walk. if however you are a group of young people who want to be out late each night, then you're probably better off staying in a hotel more central.

The single room was quite small, as was the shower. Also, the toilet was dirty the first day I got there, but this can be attribute to human error, as it was clean on the other days.

The wireless broadband in my room was awful - I was not able to connect for more than a couple of minutes. As an IT professional who needed to do some work in the evenings, this did not go down well.

The staff are very friendly - it is a family run business, and they are lovely people. The front desk is manned 24 hours a day.

All in all, this is a nice hotel, but it was a bit pricey for my liking.

Amsterdam can be a loud and hectic destination.
Hotel Aalders is in a prime location and is on a QUIET street.
It is walking distance from the Van Gogh museum, Heineken Experience, House of Bols, Park, Shopping Etc...
The hotel is family owned and operated.
Free wifi and their lobby bar has a television and a computer/printer available for guests to use. Full bar with snacks, all reasonably priced.
We stayed 3 nights and had 2 guests occupying the small twin room.
This suited our needs for a short stay, but would recommend for longer stays a larger room. The room was comfortable and cozy, but small. Our room overlooked a garden and other rooms over look the street out front.
Complimentary breakfast is served every morning in a very nice dining room. The breakfast selection included cereal, yogurt, fresh bread, pastries, cheese, and a variety of meats. They have a variety of juices, hot tea, and coffee of course.
Do not miss the opportunity to chat with Rick who works in the dining room.
He is extremely friendly and courteous.
The front desk made restaurant recommendations for us and made the arrangements for a taxi van to the airport. Do not utilize the airport shuttle. They are known for being unreliable and customarily late. The taxi is less expensive and reliable. We had six in our group and it was 40Euro to the airport v. 15Euro per person for the airport shuttle.

Perfect location behind museum quarter (200m), near Leindsplein (300m), near wonderful Vondel park (200m) and also near to the bus and tram station. You can choose either the noisy or the peacefull Amsterdam in a few minutes.
(Also you can hire bicycle from 8 Euros and up for longer ways).
The area is quiet and calm, the staff helpfull, the room comfortable and the breakfast excellent (nice view to hidden garden).

The hotel is in perfect location, near to city center, but quiet and calm
Breakfast is nice, nothing excellent though.
Staff is very cordial and helpful :)
and yes, elevator is a great help, not very common in Europe,
Room was comfortable and spacious enough,
Price could be a bit lower though

Stayed at the Aalders in April over the Queen’s Day holiday and have had a pleasant experience with them. For one, it’s not right smack in the centre of town, but rather in the Museum Quarter which means the surroundings are a lot more quiet and peaceful than if I had chosen to stay in the city area. Except on the night of Queen’s Day, I managed to get relatively good sleep without the need for earplugs.

The hotel’s about a 5-10 minute walk to the tram stop, so getting around really wasn’t much of a problem. And its proximity to the Van Gogh Museum was what I thought the best part of it all - given that I’m an ardent lover of Van Gogh’s works!

Breakfast was relatively good by European standards. Although it’s pretty much the same stuff every day, at least you get the chance to get some food in the system before you set off on the day’s adventures … particularly since food ain’t cheap in Amsterdam.
I arrived way before the official check-in time but the receptionist at the front desk was very accommodating and even invited me into the lounge for a free cup of coffee while they got the room ready for me.

Love the fact that there is an elevator in the hotel (a rarity for hotels in the city) ‘coz I’m not known for travelling light ;-) … and also love the free internet access available to guests at the bar area. It definitely makes online research while on the go easy and handy.
