Great little hotel in a convenient location. Fits it's name althought I think it is a step up from basic. Friendly helpful staff, and the coffee pot is always on.

The Chic and Basic hotel in Amsterdam is located in an ideal part of Amsterdam - centrally in a good area of the city. It certainly is chic and comparatively cheap for a hotel in the centre of a major city.

This was the perfect hotel for a city break, the staff are friendly and this made for a very enjoyable holiday

We have just stayed here over the UK Bank Holiday weekend, what a gem, perfectly located only 5min walk from the station (by far the easiest way to travel into the city) and in a beautiful spot. Everything was very accessible and well within walking distance. The rooms small but perfectly formed, although the room my daughter had at the back didnt have a window that you could see out of and was rather warm (but she's all freezing anyway, so loved it). We had a room over looking the canal and what a beautiful view. All the rooms were very clean and well presented.
Breakfast was only toast but free and a nice extra that we were not expecting and free tea and coffee at anytime. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful, would definately stay here again, and shall try the one in Barcelona, our next mini break!

Without doubt the WORST hotel room I've stayeed in!
Dirty, cramped, noisy and felt un-safe.
I have to say the staff are very friendly, but that does not compensate for the appalling room.
The tiny room's walls were covered in black marks (when someone had tried to swing a cat maybe?), a tiny dest and wardrobe all-in-one, and windonws looking up onto the street - yes, UP onto the street as room is below street level.
The old windows do not seem secure, and without a room safe I took all valuables with me when I left the hotel.
The bathroom's light switch was broken and had to be pushed about a bit before the light came in. The bathroom walls were full of random drilled holes for no apparent reason.
What's the point in having 4 types of pillow on offer when the basics aren't in place!
Was booked for a business trip for 2 nights and arrived at 10pm tired and ready for bed. Awful night's sleep, so left the next morning and stayed the next night at a hotel for the same price 5 minutes away which was a far better experience!
Do youself a favour - go elsewhere when visiting Amsterdam!

It is as the name suggested, it is basic and pretty cheap for being so central and right by the canal. The location could not be more perfect, it is on one of the most picturesque part of the city (Joordan) and it's only a 5 minute walk to the train station. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but clean and more than adequate. Alas breakfast was only toast, but it was free and the endless supply of very good coffee was a plus.
We had a wonderful stay.

Formerly Hotel New Amsterdam is my favourite in Amsterdam. The staff has been, without exception, very friendly and they all seesms to love their workplace. The rooms may differ in size and style, but the rooms I have been offered so far has been very nice, modern but still with a personal and artistic touch. The location is superb and central but still very quite - I have slept with the window open most of the times I have been here.
