Very central, very convenient. The single room is too small. It is too expensive for what is offered. What's served for breakfast is neither tasty nor fresh. The staff was friendly. The hotel has been recently reinnovated.

Very easy to get to...took train from airport then walked from the train station to the hotel. The original awe when seeing the steep stairs was quickly replaced by my awe at the excellent service. Ahkmed carried my bag up, gave me a cold drink and quickly and cheerfully checked me in. I stay in hotels all over the world and have rarely had such a friendly efficient greeting. Yes, the room was small, as is typical in cities such as this, but it was well furnished and comfortable. The location was ideal...the Anne Frank house is around the corner and I easily walked to all of the sights (museum district, red light district, Vondelpark) Breakfast was excellent - plenty of choices and all of it tasty. Filled me for the day. Sitting on the balcony listening to the church bells was so peaceful... I loved my stay hear and wouldn't even consider staying elsewhere when in Amsterdam.

Literally 3 minutes from Dam Square and on a handsome and safe street, this hotel is very easy to find, has been very recently entirely renovated and is modern and spotlessly clean and quiet. I was given a free upgrade - from room with shared bathroom - on my arrival and my well-appointed single room had ample space, an en suite shower/toilet a fridge and a 32" full HD TV. All for £50 a night. Staff were very friendly and helpful, giving me a tourist map and directions with a printout and, when I checked out before breakfast, insisted on giving me a packed breakfast to take away. The service is flawless and the Hotel Clemens Amsterdam is a very pleasant surprise for budget range accommodation. Highly recommended.

Pros:

Clean modern rooms, relatively big bathrooms. good showers.
Fab location, we walked everywhere. 2 min to Dam square which is pretty much the central hub. We walked with our bags from central station it took about 10 minutes in a straight-ish line which was super easy. Tip: when you come off the train just ask for dam square and the palace, once there the hotel is a 2 minute walk away.
Nice breakfast area with a simple convenient breakfast (toast, rolls, coffee, cereal)...
Lovely small sweet balcony and empty mini bar meant we brought beers/wine filled the mini fridge and it was fab to have a night cap after a big night out at a little table on our balcony.

Cons

STAIRS FOR F#$%^^&% AFRICA- we were on the third floor and with our luggage it was a bloody killer to get up there. We arn't unfit lazy's but man after travelling for 2 weeks and a flight there it wasnt ideal. I made the boyfriend carry our bag but i imagine a single girl would struggle.
Breakfast: nice breakfast and area BUT it is supposed to go till 10 30 am, this is early after a big night out (we only made it to one breakfast) plus 90% of the food is gone by about 10am.. We got there at 10 am for breakfast and were lucky to get the last croissant and end of the fruit rolls. Considering you are paying for breakfast its a bit of a joke to be honest. Id only pay for breakfast if you are an early riser.
their 'laundry sevice' = all whites went pink, all dresses shrunk. tip- dont do it there.
service was OK, not as friendly and helpful/local as other places we stayed in Europe.
take ear plugs as noisy from road
2 single beds made into a double not ideal, and also 2 single duvets instead of a big duvet made snuggles difficult plus the two single beds kept moving so there was a big gap in between.

We stayed for one night in a double room with a little balcony, facing the street. The whole place was very recently renovated and is in top condition. Our room was well equiped, especially considering that it is in Europe. We had TV, fridge and A/C! The room is small but that is pretty common in Amsterdam. If you´re travelling with a lot of luggage and / or take up a lot of room yourself you might face some difficulties, but as mentioned that is usual. The rooms are non-smoking and there is no smell of smoke anywhere.
We heard no inside noise, street noise is audible (not too bad) and should be reduced by new windows.
The staff is very courteous, the breakfast selection is not large but serves the purpose. All in all a good stay in a centrally located, well kept hotel. We´ve stayed at other places in the city, we´d come back here.
On a side note: The stairs are very steep, almost like a ladder. As a firefighter I enjoyed climbing them. If you don´t share the passion, ask for help with your luggage, the staff is willing to assist.

Room Tip: 301 faces the street and has a little balcony. We liked it.

We had a wonderful stay in this perfectly placed, well kept hotel. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The room was quite small, but perfectly usable and we had a balcony onto the street. The window and door could do with sealing to cut out road noise, and the twin style double should be strapped in some way to prevent seperation, but neither distracted us from probably returning to this charming residence in the future.
