“Only one complaint”

This hotel is in a great location, right on the Warmoeestraat which is always buzzing. So do expect some noise late into the night (ear plugs are provided in rooms though!).

It is also a five minute walk from the central station, so in regards to transfers from the airport you couldnt pick a more perfect destination. Within 40 minutes of picking up our baggage we had settled into our room! We picked up the first train from the airport in to Amsterdam central. It only takes twenty minutes.

I believe this hotel is 75% more of a hostel based accomodation, with shared rooms and shared bathrooms. However, there are at least two rooms, situated right at the top of the building that are perfect for couples. They go quickly though! The room was more like a small apartment, with its own hallway, shower room, bathroom and bedroom. On the downside the lighting in the bedroom was very very dim.

If you have never been to Amsterdam before beware of the stairs, they are especially narrow and practically vertical. Without an elevator, carrying our 20Kg luggage up and down was a real nightmare! After a couple of days you get used to the stairs and will practically skip up and down.

Staff on arrival and exit were super friendly and welcoming. The room was cleaned every day. I would be giving this hotel top marks but my one complaint is quite important to me.
While the room was cleaned every day, our sheets were never clean. On arrival there were some funny stains in the corners. One night, when we returned to the room merry and with some chips we dropped some ketchup on the bed, noticeably. Again the sheets were not once changed in our stay. I can deal with the stain we made ourselves but the stains that were there on arrival were difficult to accept.

And finally fellow travellers, if you are here to dabble in the typical culture, there is an ash tray provided in rooms and you are allowed to smoke as many joints as you like before bed :)

Location is uber easy to find, stone throw away from Central Station.
Reception was good and polite. Rooms are clean and cosy, bed is comfy. Bathroom and toilets are clean too. Oh remember to bring a pair of slippers for bathing purposes!
Our room is just above the street, so do expect streets noises at night, part of Amsterdam i guess. No lift, steep stairs, luckily we stayed on first floor.
My elder sister was rob one night when she was walking back with her friend to the hotel. She was rushed to the hospital immediately and got 5 stitches on her forehead. The hotel staff was very helpful by quickly informed us, and arranged us to the hospital. So be careful while walking at night in the streets!
Definitely a must-come-back hotel to stay in.

Room Tip: You can try to request the rooms off the streets. Perhaps at the back of the hotel.

A real gem of a hotel. It is right in the heart of Amsterdam. Within walking distance from the station. I went with a friend and we loved our room. Small but perfect and we had the best view, overlooking the city. It was cleaned everyday and the staff were so friendly and very helpful. The lady who I believe ran the hotel was just fantastic. Always willing to help. If you are a first timer to Amsterdam and looking for a fun trip with a true Amsterdam experience then I would highly recommend this hotel. You get a swipe card given as the bar closes at 1 am, but you can use the side door at any time, which was a great idea. The stairs were steep, but that really is all part and parcel. It wouldn't be Amsterdam without them and you do get used to them. It did make coming home after a late night all the more fun. I really do believe my holiday wouldn't have been the same if I had stayed in any other hotel. I will be coming back again.

This hotel is so much in the thick of it you become the thick of it! Having always stayed in 4 or 5 star hotels I was dreading what this hotel could be like, I needn't have worried. Location is perfect, right on the edge of the red-light district, above its own pub/cafe full of character. The room was more spacious than expected and the use of space is ingenious. The room was warm (mid october -windows open) also very clean, plenty of fresh towels, hot water. The staff are friendly and helpful. If you don't want breakfast just go into bar for coffee and a snack (we had very nice toasties), but really you will be spoiled for eateries in the area. Yes the stairs to rooms are steep and a little daunting-looking but really they are quite manageable, the staircase itself is new-looking and safe, stair-rails are well secured so just get over it folks...its Amsterdam!

Room Tip: bring a travel kettle for morning tea/coffee

My boyfriend and I stayed here sept 30th - Oct 2nd and will definitely be returning!

We have always stayed outside the city centre thinking we could not afford a central stay but this was a perfect location and good price. Its is in the centre of it all, 5 minutes walk from central station and the room was fine for us, it was not as plush as we have previously had but was clean enough. It is a pub with rooms above so I would class it more as a B&B, the separate side access with own key is a nice touch. The decor was not to my taste but certainly not as old and crusty as some people have commented. As any hygienic traveller would, we wore flip-flops in the shower and footwear/slippers around the room and got on fine. Check-in was smooth and although we had to return at about 2pm to actually check-in, we were able to leave our bags in their secure lock up. Hotel is easy to find and friendly staff. The stairs are very very steep so not suitable if you have any mobility issues. We were on the first floor in a double room with private bathroom. We had a flat screen TV, almost black out curtains and best of all we could smoke in the room! The noise from outside is not as bad as expected, we slept fine.
Although we didn't use them, the communal bathrooms looked clean and there were no bad smells.

Overall FANTASTIC location - unbeatable, GOOD room no complaints and NICE staff. Will be re-booking here 100%. Go for it!
(Nice Chinese restaurant opposite (YimYam) and for a proper full English breakfast go to teddys cafe a few doors down)

If you are looking for a good room in a great location in Amsterdam this hotel is perfect. The rooms are above the bar and have an external entrance as well. Clean, comfortable even in winter. I highly recommend them.
