“Beautiful Hotel in Convenient Location for Museums”
Reviewed 24 May 2013

In a city not known for service, the Conservatorium is an exception to the rule. Set in an old building but beautifully restored with a deep and careful sense of design. The amenities were perfect -- pool, brasserie -- were both beautiful and fun. The staff is super friendly and the rooms are luxurious and spacious.

We stayed in the hotel for two nights having stayed at Andas Hotel the night before. The lobby is nice and pleasantness stops there. For the most expensive hotel in Amaterdam, the service is appalling. We waiters were slow and forget what you ordered. The food was mediocre and expensive. We have to wait for a long time to be seated to a table. There was no priority to hotel residence such that they cannot get us a table to dine in the restaurant. The sitting area in the lobby is overcrowded. The bellboy took a long time to pick up the luggage. When I complained to the manager, she could only acknowledge th problem and couldn't offer solution.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel please!

Stayed her for 2 nights for the Europa Cup Final. The cost was €1025 for 2 nights!
Great building with fantastic architecture but let down by poor service in the foyer level restaurant. Service was slow due to insufficient staff who at best were incompetent and failed to get orders correct and delivered in a timely way.
I guess we paid top price due to the Europa Final but I would never recommend this hotel due to poor restaurant staff.
The door staff were excellent.

We stayed in the Conservatorium Hotel for one night only, but it made an excellent impression on me. Beautifully renovated lobby, where classic meets modern. Very spacious and tasteful (to my opinion). Professional welcome: doors were opened, car was parked, staff was service-orientated and friendly.

Our room was really nice: solid materials (wood, natural stone), high-quality towels and amenities and surprising extra luxuries such as an LCD mirror TV in your bathroom (can’t live without it, right? ;-)), rainfall shower and a Nespresso coffee machine. Small annoyance: we had trouble activating the free Wifi. Staff helped out with a special code, but it stopped working again later on. We couldn’t be bothered because we could still access internet through our phone provider, but if you’re from abroad or really need to work, it would be a hassle.

We had dinner in the Tunes restaurant. Excellent staff; knew what they were talking about. The food was a bit ‘designy’: creative with ingredients and surprising combinations of food. Not something you would eat every week, but very nice every once in a while.
Breakfast is served in a separate part of the lobby, and was meeting expectations: fresh food and juices, enough choice and good coffee!
I was also spoilt with a Spa treatment in the Akasha Spa Centre, which was very relaxing. Beautiful luxurious centre, and again nice staff.

Location: perfect! The Museum Square with some of Amsterdam’s important museums is around the corner, as is the PC Hooftstraat (for shopping) and the Vondelpark. There are several nice restaurants and bars in the area, and the Leidse Square is also close. All within walking distance. You can easily take a 10-minute tram (or taxi) ride to the centre and other Amsterdam areas.

Having said all these positive things: it is quite expensive. I really enjoyed the stylish surroundings and the luxury, but it’s up to everyone’s personal opinion (and wallet) whether you think it’s worth it.

The birthday trip for my wife's 45th was Amsterdam&Paris.
We went all out in Amsterdam and it was worth it.
Not only a great location, great room, great hotel but Great staff.

Always available for a question with the perfect answer. From the front desk to the doorman to the waitstaff. All were great.

But why Above & Beyond? Don't all First Class Hotels do this? Yes they do but when we checked in the man at the Lounge noticed that it was the week of my wife's 45th.

HE HAD A CAKE, small piece, SENT TO THE ROOM WITH A CANDLE. And on the plate they wrote in icing Happy Birthday. Not all, if any, hotels would do this.

The hotel cost a lot but just that one jester made it all worth while.

We stayed for only one night in a corner loft suite with 2 bathrooms. The entire hotel is gorgeous from design perspective.

We had dinner at the main restaurant and it was excellent. Breakfast was also great. Service was a little odd, sometimes you didn't know who your server was and they would forget things, but they got the job done.

Spa - mixed reviews here, mostly good. The actual services (once booked) were great and what a gorgeous spa! The front end staff of the spa were a little amateur however, two to three of them sitting there staring you down when you came to book or ask questions. The booking process was tedious as several of the services offered on their spa menu weren't available due to the therapist not being trained in them. Once you book, they need to call the therapist to see if she is available and then confirm back with you. However, I ended up very happy with the services I had, but the process of booking it was not the best.

Front desk was a bit inconsistent. Requested a late check out and had it confirmed (for a fee), the next morning had my husband call to reconfirm it and they knew nothing about it so we had to haggle about it and finally they agreed, but by then we had packed up and decided just to keep our money and leave on time.

So, some little glitches, but overall a visually stunning property and I would go back, just not with expectations of flawless service. The good far outweighed the bad though so that is why i gave this property a 5 out of 5. One of the most impressive architectural buildings I have had the pleasure of staying in. Service is not perfect, but it is delivered with good intentions which is half the battle.

Room Tip: The corner loft suite had two bathrooms which was nice.
