“Great Choice for Business or Vacation”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

Stayed here on a business trip but would also be my hotel of choice if returning on vacation. A great location in the Museum District. Very easy walk to the museums, Concertgebouw, and a number of restaurants. The two story loft room was fabulous; two luxurious bathrooms, very cool architecture, two story window looking out on Stedelijk Museum. Ate in the more casual restaurant and it was very good. Service very helpful. Highly recommended.

Height of luxury, stunning hotel in a restored music conservatory. Incredible modern furnishings and architecture housed in a centuries old building. Fantastic location. Impeccable service. Fabulous two story guest rooms. Excellent bar and restaurant. Absolutely not to be missed.

First of all the hotel is very conveniently locates in Amsterdam very near from the Rijsmuseum and the Van Gogh museum. From there you can walk to downtown Amsterdam though all the bridges and canals. secondly the Hotel is great in a very old building but the rooms and bathrooms are sleek and big. All the staff is very efficient. The hotel rate is not cheap but certainly is worth for what you get in exchange.

This is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location right next to the museum quarter and Vondelpark.

We booked a duplex room which was a minimalist delight – beautifully designed, clean, unfussy yet comfortable and a decent size. And there were two bathrooms with generous amounts of L’Occitane toiletries. We were on a high floor so didn't have much road noise. Hooray! The spa is really gorgeous, with a good sized pool, jacuzzi, a heated Watsu pool and some loungers. We didn't have time for any treatments, but the selection is broad and hopefully we can try that next time.

The only disappointment was slightly patchy service. Reception said they would call us when the room was ready for us to check in as we arrived early and wanted to go for a wander. They didn't. Likewise the concierge was meant to make dinner reservations for us and didn't (thought this was rectified by a different person). It’s probably a training issue and easily solved, but was disappointing.

However this is a brilliant hotel and definitely recommended – we’re already looking forward to going back

Dear guest,

We would like to thank you for staying at the Conservatorium Hotel and for reviewing your stay with us. It is a pleasure to read your kind compliments about our accommodation and Akasha spa. I am quite disappointed however to learn about the small flaws. I do hope that you will accept my sincere apologies for the disappointment. We arrived on a Friday night at 9:30pm at the hotel and - the room was not ready. We were told it was cleaned but had not be inspected yet - so we were offered a drink at the bar. Usually I do not mind - but 9:30pm?
It took quite a while till someone was finally ready to take our order, and when the drink arrived it was decorated with a strawberry which had passed its best days quite some time ago. Just a minor detail...same as: the room category we booked was not available anymore...and we got a "downgrade"...and they didn't tell us. My husband was double checking...and only because he asked (the room looked somewhat smaller than on the picture) they told us.

But: we were simply happy we had a room. The room itself had a great design and the beds looked really comfortable. Point for the hotel, they had placed a bottle of red wine on the table to make up for the fact that the room was not ready and for the secret downgrade.

Unfortunately the sink was blocked, the water of the shower was floating in the room (beautiful design...simply not very practical), the light of the room was broken, the TV did not work, not to mention the room service experience which was not at all 5-stars. Since it had been a hot summer day and the airco did not work we eventually decided to check out at 1am.

At the checkout the night manager offered us a suite, but we simply wanted to leave. We had heard to may bad excuses of why things did not work / were not matching expectations. The hotel has a nice design, but the service was disappointing and the way we experienced the staff handling the overall situation lacked professionalism.

My wife and I had a wonderful 3 week stay at the Conservatorium Hotel in August 2013. We booked one of the fifth floor Grand Duplex Suites, which was very comfortable and had a lovely view overlooking the Stedelijk Museum. It’s a lovely hotel in a great location, a short walk to the major museums and Vondel Park.

The excellent staff makes the Conservatorium particularly special. All of the people that we interacted with were friendly, kind, and eager to be helpful.

The host staff provided very thoughtful recommendations on places to visit and dine and all of them did a great job for us. Their recommendations were uniformly excellent and were far more helpful than any of the guide books that we had brought along on our trip. Etan Sela was the host we dealt with the most and he was fabulous. He worked hard to understand our likes and dislikes in order to suggest choices that would be well-suited to us - go out of your way to work with him if you stay at the Conservatorium. Annie was another host that did great things for us, including telling us to visit the Kroller-Muller Museum and sending us to Samhoud Places for dinner on our anniversary.

Similarly, the doormen were a pleasure to interact with -all of them were attentive, helpful and very nice people. The brasserie and lounge staff was also first rate.

In short, the Conservatorium is a beautiful hotel that does a great job for its guests. It’s the only place we’ll stay when we visit Amsterdam in the future.
