“Great place, Great people = really good time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

Stayed here 3 nights recently and all I can say is I had a great time. Location is really good 2mins from centraal station, the rooms are basic but clean the and I found the beds pretty comfy my only complaint about the rooms are there a bit small the showers work and are hot, but don't expect a power shower. The bars cheap, reasonably well stocked and also does bar snacks pizza's etc but the main thing is it has a really good vibe about the place and the nightlife is pretty good. The smoking room's good really chilled ha!! and you'll find some really interesting characters in there and all the staff are really friendly and helpful. The main thing is the people that what makes the place so special. Just remember it's a hostel in Amsterdam not the Hilton it is lively at night and you will see stoned people and smell a bit of weed its AMSTERDAM GREAT PLACE GREAT PEOPLE..

I stayed at this hostel for one night last year. It really isn't that nice. The location of the hostel is really good, it's very central and close to most tourist attractions... but it's really dirty and the room I stayed in was really small. The bed wasn't that comfortable and the storage lockers for your luggage was really small. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone... I've stayed at a lot of hostels throughout europe... and this one is definitely below average. Like I said, it's not awful... but it's really gross and dirty and the shower was disgusting. I normally don't bother writing reviews... but I always read reviews before booking hotels and after reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews for this place (I'm really confused about this), I feel like I should write a review for ppl who actually read reviews that is more representative of what this place was like.

Hi there,

Thank you very much for your review. We really appreciate it you took the time to reply, cause we can learn a lot from it for the future.

We are very sorry to read your stay with us was not what you expected. Fortunately, since last year some things have changed. A lot of the lockers have been replaced, so they are brand new and bigger than the other ones! We also improved our cleanliness a lot. The rooms and public toilets/showers were being cleaned already daily, but now even more often during the day. You can also reach our staff 24 hours a day, so if you find something not clean, just let them know and they will sort it out right away.

Thanks again for your time and letting is know how your experience with us was.

Safe travels!

Cheers,

The Flying Pig

Horribly smelly hostel with central location and lively clientele. I was backpacking with two other friends and we all disliked the hostel but appreciated its value and location. We didn't feel particularly safe there but it was cheep and fun

Stayed in an 18 bed dorm room which was a combination of single and double bunk beds. Interestingly enough since we booked for 2 my friend and I ended up sharing a double bed, which was ok since we are both girls and not that tall, although there was no much space to turn over...however the bed beneath us was both boys and they were both probably 6 foot tall! They seemed pretty cosy..other than that the rooms are pretty tightly packed, you either get a wooden cupboard or cage under the bed to lock your stuff away - sometimes the cupboard is pretty small and won't fit a rucksack in it so you have to leave it out anyway.

Bathrooms were shared and unisex, as well as male and female only toilets along the corridors as well. The showers gave me some trouble one afternoon where there was no hot water at all...but they were fine otherwise.

Breakfast was included in the price, and I found it to be quite impressive considering. Different types of sliced bread, toasters provided, as well as lots of spreads (chocolate, butter, jams), hard boiled eggs, cornflakes and coco pops, apples, oranges, and for drinks they had juices, milk, tea, and a coffee machine to use.

This hostel had a special 'smoking room' in which you were allowed to smoke your special purchases from the coffee shops nearby.

Location was fantastic, about 5-10 mins walk from the main station (Amsterdam centraal) and it was basically on a street with a lot if shops, food, and coffee shops. Dam square was only about a 7-10 minute walk away as well.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. The front par of the hostel was there was the reception, bar, and pool table, which was a pretty good place to chill out. I tried to stay here again on my 2nd visit but unfortunately they were booked out! This was a pretty popular hostel and I can definitely understand why.

Room Tip: Careful when booking in pairs - they might put you in a double bed to share! Could be awkward if you...

I've stayed at a few hostels around Europe and this has to be by far one of the best.
If you're arriving by train/bus the hostel is 5minutes away from the station.
We arrived at 10am and was able to check in and go to our room straight away. We're not fussy about rooms so we stayed in the cheaper option of 32 bed dorm, the good thing is the 32 bed rooms are actually split up to only around 8beds in a room (free ear plugs available from reception) with adequate toilet and shower facilities on all levels of the hostel. Fresh clean bedding is included, if you forget your towel you can rent one for a 2€ deposit.

Breakfast is also included, only continental with cereal, toast, fruit and boiled eggs, but sufficient.

Bar is open all day and until the early hours, definitely THE cheapest place to drink in amsterdam: Local lager 2bottles for 3€ until 9pm. Malibu, Absolut vodka and other "premium" spirits, in large measures, 2 for 6€ all day and night.

For those of you wanting to smoke amsterdams "specialties" there's also a smoking room for this off the bar, and an outside terrace.

When it comes to leaving, check out it 1030am, There are lockers that you can use however for 2€ to keep bags and belongings safe if you're not leaving Amsterdam until late on.

Overall possibly the best hostel i've stayed in and would not hesitate in booking it again during my next visit to Amsterdam

Room Tip: If going with group of friends, email hostel in advance to guarantee you get the same room

Real good vibes. Near to the central square "Dam square" and the red light district. Good panflets of what to do in the lobby, some of the staff doesn;t really know that much about the city, we asked one of them if there would be a line to go into the anne frank museum, she said no, and we had to wait 1 hour in line to get in, instead of buying them online without waiting in line.
You meet a lot of interesting people, there's a pool table in the lobby, and best of all "The smoking room" which is better to experience than to explain. The rooms are spacious, the bathroom aswell, and the beds comfortable.
Its definitely in the top 5 hostels to go in amsterdam if you're with your friends doing a eurotrip
