stayed here for 3 nights when backpacking through europe.
Super friendly staff who helped me with directions, even for places outside of the city proper.
the smoking area was a nice touch, but the pool table was rarely used as it was situated in the middle of a seating area.
breakfast was fairly standard, nothing special but definitely acceptable.
rooms weren't bad. (staying in the 32 bed dorm) still didnt feel too claustrophobic.
the hostel is also very well situated , near the train station but also near the central part of the city.
great social atmosphere as well.
perfect for backpackers on a short stop over

We stayed one night during the very hot high occupancy holiday season. We got in very early (2am) but there is someone at the desk all night. Decent security in place with card in/card out. Please note- if you check in after midnight they cannot accept payment and will hold your passports until the morning, which we were unhappy about but did anyway. We arrived to a lively bar scene with a very friendly bartender who even stayed open longer than usual as we were enjoying ourselves as long as possible before going upstairs to the Dutch oven (our room which we shared with another couple and two singles). There is a decent sized smoke room and the downstairs area is air conditioned. It was UnBearably hot in the room and there were not any fans available. If it had been cooler or we had a fan, we would have been quite happy with the experience but as this is pretty expensive as hostels go, we did not stay our second night to find somewhere more comfortable. They were very reasonable about us checking out early and even were able to sell our spots and return out money (we were impressed by this). Good location right in the center of town. Standard hostel breakfast (again, for the price not impressed) If you are looking for a party hostel experience this is the place to go.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a message on TripAdvisor.
It is great to read you have enjoyed your stay with us.

Indeed, during the night we take passports as a security deposit for the rooms. These passports go into a special safe and can't be reached by anyone other then our night reception. We do this for several security reasons. We are sorry to hear that this has not been communicated to you better. .
It is nice to read that you've been refunded for the night when you didn't stay with us.
To find out more we will send you a personal message :D

Hope to hear back from you soon!

The hostel is conveniently located near the Centraal Station and has many shops and restaurants around it.
The hostel rooms don't have a great view, but the ambiance inside is great.
One can meet so many different travellers from across the globe and the staff is more than helpful to guide the people in the city.
There is a well equipped kitchen where people can cook their own food.
The breakfast is really basic, with eggs, fruits, bread and cereals.
There are well cleaned bathroom and toilet facilities as well.
There is a separate room for smoking, where people just go and chill.
The bar inside is also great, though not the cheapest, but good enough for some early morning drinking.

The rooms were pretty clean and neat as well. The room cage lockers are big enough for large suitcases too. Just carry a strong lock of your own.
However, there was only 1 fan in our room and it got a tad too warm for our comfort at night.

The hostel would surely be my recommendation to the partying traveller looking to socialize with different people. The only flipside is that it is a bit on the expensive side, but I assure you that it is well worth it.

Room Tip: Room B1 has Wi-Fi access, but since it is next to the Smoking Room, there is always hustle and bustl...

close to attractions, allowed to smoke in the smoking room, can watch a video in the tv room, clean place, toilets arent linked to the bathrooms. and i was there during the worldcup, so.. they screened it. had a bar at the lobby too...its a really social place. breakfast was free and okay, cereals, toast, hardboil eggs etc.
service was okay too except for one, where i wanted to bring in my friend luggage to lock in my locker(i had space in my locker and we were leaving together) but was denied, and that was a mood killer.

From the moment I walked through the doors the staff were so overwhelmingly lovely & so helpful. Nothing was a bother, even when I changed my booking! Special mention to Charly who really is an angel, the sweetest person ever! Really social & fun place to stay, in the heart of the city & really clean. The ground floor bathrooms are the best! Must stay place in Amsterdam , from a 32yo solo traveller :)

My friend and I stayed here over New Years 2013/14. It was one of the best places we stayed in. Great atmosphere with very friendly people. We stayed in the 32 double bed dorm and were lucky to have great people in our room. Bathrooms are unisex although it was fine, always very clean. Free wifi was also great, didn't get a chance to check out the free breakfast. Amazing location and easy to find. Overall loved this hostel would definitely come back again and recommend to others.

This hostel was pretty comfy for the money you spent, the breakfast in the morning was pretty damn good however get down there early! The location is amazing, right in the centre of town, but I advise getting a bike to go to some of the sites that are a little out from the main city. The smoking area was both a positive and a negative. It was very social at night time, the sort of go to area. The negative was that they opened it up in the morning which made the place reek of smoke, which wasn't pleasant when you're trying to eat your cornflakes. But overall I recommend this place for people spending a couple/ few days in Amsterdam.
